Looking to upgrade from my lg g2 I love this phone and it has given me a brand loyalty to LG because how well it's tested me but I don't want to be too naive and buy a G4 . I'm giving myself a $200 budget (my needs are simple, basic phone use including web browsing, Snapchat and YouTube and instagram. I don't play games or Pokemon GO). The only reason I'm upgrading my g2 is because Snapchat and instagram are starting to get a little slow and a year ago my audio port in my phone went out so I can't use headphones with it unless they're bluetooth.

Options lately have been between a G4, the new Moto G, Nexus 5x and a OnePlus Two. All these phones fall in or around my budget on Swappa.com

I'm open to getting a Chinese phone but I don't need the best bang for my buck. I just want a good reliable phone that will keep up with modern Android apps and updates for the next year or two.

It's just a retarded argument, seeing how most smartphones today give you 50+GB of space for your shit in entry models.
It's not really a valid argument because "muh storage".

If you can fill that and you stil need space, you should offload the shit on your laptop, pc, stream it or get it via other external means.

It's a huge fatal flaw. The whole point of Android is to escape Apple's gay shit like permanent unexpandable storage.

>A person interested in stuff will look the phone up anyway and notice that, it won't bother most.
No they won't. A lot of times people unknowingly buy phones without a micro SD slot and suffer overwhelming buyer's remorse. We gotta let them know before they shoot themselves in the foot.

For that 1% of people who genuinely don't give a shit about the freedom to expand their phone storage also don't give a shit about everything else Android has to offer and should just stick to fruit phones.

I fell for the OnePlus 3 meme. I've had it for 3 days now and these are my impressions:

Pros:
Feels noticeably faster than my Xperia Z3
Camera quality is very good
Can multitask like on a PC pretty much and open several pages in Chrome before any of them reload
Great fingerprint sensor
Very good customization to stock android, really like the customizable buttons. I mapped the camera to long press menu, mapped screen off to double tap home, and mapped last opened app to back for quick 2-app multitasking
Dash charging actually works
Build quality seems excellent

Cons:
Video recording sucks dicks and stabilization is bugged (not working in 1080p but working in 4k)
Speaker is disappointing coming from Z3
Software sometimes feels incomplete, the music player is garbage, the "Shelf" feature feels very early, camera app lacks settings and modes
I have no fucking Type C USB cables and right now they're embarassingly overpriced
Minor software bugs here and there
Youtube not playing 60fps video
Screen isn't perfect and has minor banding, but my only other OLED screen, the Galaxy S4, has it much worse. Maybe all Oleds are like this? I also have a dead pixel.

Concerns:
Battery life will degrade faster? The dash charger pumps 5V and 4A into the poor battery
Apparently OP has a bad reputation for updates
Amount of bugs is concerning, but updates seem to be coming fast right now
Not sure if it's because of the metal body and very hot summer but the phone can get hot to the point of being uncomfortable if I push it to the limits with benchmarks and heavy games
There are Sony/Samsung service centers in my city, and no OP service centers in my country

Hopes:
It's held together by 2 screws, so it should be easy to repair if something breaks
6Gb of RAM will definitely make it more future proof
They'll improve it via software updates

Should I send it back and buy something else for the same price? Right now I'm satisfied but maybe there is something better out there.

Avoid unless you can get it for a steal. Its display is downright terrible and has poor build quality.
>>
>>55831781

>>
>>55831801
One of my colleagues has it and I tried it once. I wouldn't recommend it and wasn't impressed. It's very expensive and unless you're a retarded old man, swipe typing on a software keyboard is much faster. The device feels like it has terrible build quality as well because of the sliding design and physical keyboard, and it's also very thick. I can imagine it exploding into a million pieces after a drop. Other than that, I heard updates will be very slow on it.

Unless you really want a physical keyboard with dinky little keys (and you have really no reason to want such a thing unless you're an old man with baby duck syndrome who used blackberries all his life) I wouldn't buy it, especially when there are androids which are better in every single way for less money such as the OP3 or the Galaxy S7.
>>
>>55831781
I had the 520 and it was great as a backup-emergency phone. Then my screen became unresponsive at the top and in a small area in the middle for no reason. Windows phone is dogshit and I would never use it as my daily driver but it's the perfect backup or secondary phone as long as you buy it for cheap, but it might not be for so long, even cheaper androids are getting very capable, I have a MotoG 3rd gen (1Gb ram version) and it works very well and is very fast and fully capable.

I'm not sure why but lately my OP3 isn't getting the usual scores in benchmarks. I usually run benchmarks just to check if everything is running well, not sure if it's because the phone overheats and throttles down (it's very hot these days) or if the lates update or something else caused it to slow down a bit. Used to get 140.000+ (top of the list in the Antutu botnet) but nowdays I get third place.

Virgin Mobile is a piece of shit. They basically use the same Sprint towers as Boost and have overpriced plans.

Switch over to Boost, save money in the long term, and save money now by getting a $129 Galaxy S4. You can buy a bigger battery for it later since it's removable too.

Hey guys I'm looking for a phone to use as navigation and camera on bike rides. Something with
>good camera
>somewhat stable CM port
>decent battery life
>preferably light and not a square foot ping-pong paddle

In order of importance. I don't care about CPU performance, storage, screen quality, front camera, video recording and other gimmicks, I just want something light and small that can take acceptable quality pics and won't run out of juice 4 hours into a ride with GPS on.

Hey /g/, my xperia z3 died yesterday (ironically from what damage). what should I go with as a replacement?

Needs:
>Sd card slot
>Good battery life
>Good audio output (listen to a lot of music)

Would be nice:
>Water resistance. Though I don't really buy it anymore after what happened to my xperia
>Visibility in sunlight (I live in FL)

Don't really care:
>camera. I have a DSLR to take pics with
>fingerprint sensor. Never felt the need to use one.

Thanks bros

Need a full case for s7 edge including screen cover needed.

Dont wanna make it super bulky with a 2kg case pls

Any recommends?

Anyone ever try one of these for their phone?

Either for this phone specifically or another device. I got a super cheap case for my Z3C, solely to provide some grip to it. Suffice it to say, I want to change. I'm just looking for something thin that doesn't look bad, and provides grip.

Phone recommendation? I'm able to wait a little longer for one to come out that's rumored/been announced.

Need
>water resistance
>4 GB RAM
>Able to have 64 GB ROM, whether it's with an SD card or not (don't care much on this)
>Excellent battery life. 3000 mAh minimum.
>Good speakers (not necessarily front facing)
>OLED screen

Want
>front facing speakers
>~5.5 inch screen
>great camera
>stylus+productivity (I'm sold on the note 7 currently)
>fingerprint sensor

Don't care
>Stock software. I'm just gonna nuke it with a ROM.
>NFC, wireless charging, IR blaster, heartrate shit. None of them I use.

Budget is unlimited.

Currently, I'm on a galaxy s7 edge, and I want to get rid of it due to the screen curve constantly registering inputs because I hold my phone like an ape at my job, but it has what I absolutely need for now. If the next Galaxy Note has a curved screen, I'll be hesitant on it, but I doubt they're going to release a non-production friendly note. Basically, I've done lots of looking, but there's a ton I don't know about what's coming out, and what's available from smaller companies.

Hello guys, I came here to ask for recommendations since I lost my phone yesterday and I've got to buy a new phone. I hope that these kind of questions don't annoy you guys too much, because dumb fucks like me probably come here to ask these things all of the time.

My budget is probably around 300 euros and I'd like an Android phone, preferably one without too much manufacturer bloatware on it. I'd like it to be not too big (carry in pocket), a decent camera would be cool, also I guess the newer the Android version, the better. I took a look at the LG Nexus 5X and it looks quite good to me, but the place I want to buy it from doesn't seem to have black ones in stock right now. I'm from Lithuania, if that is of any importance.

I have tiny girl hands, so I don't think this will be an issue. I'm more concerned about scratches and screen fracture. I've never used a or a screen protector case for my 4S and after 5 years it still looks pretty good, even though I dropped it at least a dozen times now. Can modern phones take the same amount of abuse?
>>
>>55831853
It has got fairly good reviews from what I have seen. In the UK you can get the handset for £380, against about £650 for the s7 edge. It is ridiculously cheap for the hardware you're getting.

>>55834418

American currently debating 6P vs S7. 6P felt way too fucking wide, and not having microSD is a bit of a letdown. But the price for the S7 is a bit much.

I'm stuck with AT&T because they're the only people that will still give me an unlimited plan, and they're doing a "buy one get one" right now for the S7. Anyone know if I can go half-and-half on this with someone one a different contract, or is there another deal about that makes the S7 a bit more appealing?
>>
>>55836315
it's pretty good
what do you want in a smartphone?
I have one, so I can help you decide
>>
>>55836340
-mSD slot (Hahaha no good/affordable phone has it these days)
-good battery (4.5+ SOT on average)
-3GB+ RAM
-won't overheat/explode/have reception or wifi issues
-Roms that will keep it alive more than 1.5-2 years

Honestly if not for the space issue of the OP3 I would have pulled the trigger already, I don't get a ton of LTE so fuck the cloud. The screen is lower-quality sure, but I'm more interested in something functional that I won't have to replace because planned obsolescence.
>>
>>55836333

God dammit Samsung phones are such a raging pile of shit to do any sort of ROMs for. I'm done a shitload of flashing in my days, but nothing has been more infuriating than the ATT Note 3 variant. What a clusterfuck.
>>
>>55836396
well OP fits about all of those, except the mSD slot
the kernel source is open, it's getting official CM13 with all features now working (recently released sources for DASH charging, so that works too in all roms)

You get 50GB of usable space on OP3 tho, it's not bad.
And the screen really isn't bad. The color reproduction is nice, you can adjust it, turn on sRGB mode if you don't like the current settings.

One thing that OP3 doesn't seem to do well is stand-by, surprisingly.
But it seems it's a software issue and could be resolved down the line.

Otherwise I'd suggest S7, but that shit is expensive.

I don't use a shitton of space on my phone, mostly because I've been thinking of upgrading. Lack of SD is frustrating because it means the phone has an effective lifespan after using it for 1-2 years and app sizes start to climb. It's bearable, but it's another hard cap on a phone's lifespan, like a locked bootloader.

What's wrong with the standby though? I've been hearing about battery drain on the damn thing, is it the same with any ROM's?

I have purchased 4 of them for my friends with shitphones, none have complained about throttling or overheating. The overheating comes with taking long videos greater than 15 minutes. So if you're doing that, it's probably not the right device for you.

Otherwise, it's fantastic. Get the non-ad version from Amazon though, it currently will apply a $50 off coupon bringing it to the price of the ad version. Ad versions bootloader can't be unlocked but the ad-free can, and CM is currently in production for it.

Depends if you're buying it unlocked or not. If you buy it from a carrier expect the usual carrier shit they heap onto phones.

Even when buying unlocked, Samsung usually has their fair share of apps they pre-load. I haven't had one of their phones since the S5 so maybe it's changed.

HTC is using "less bloat" as a selling point for the 10, because they've worked with Google to cut down on the pre-loaded apps (Instead of getting a "Photos app" from HTC and Google Photos you just have Google Photos)

No anon, that's the problem. It says that there is no sim card.

I think I might put it the wrong way and forced it. Now I can't take it out.

I'm so ashamed, it was a gift from my dad ;_;
I think I might just buy a new sim card when I get some money and put it on slot #2 and slot #1 is dead to me
>>
>>55837972
It can't be that bad. you need to push it to remove it, don't try to yank it out.
>>
>>55838003
I think I broke the push to remove mechanism, because it's definitely not working

I think the problem is that it's a ghetto ass micro sim (I cut a normal sim), so the fit is a little tight.

If you didn't cut it correctly then maybe you hit the the electrical circuit and it could be broken.

It was working in my previous phone.
I think the sim slot was more forgiving on the old phone, that's why I had no problem putting it in and I can't do it now.

I just Hard Reset my Galaxy Young 2 (SM-G130HN) to factory settings and now it doesn't connect to wifi.

How can I make it connect to my wifi?
>>
>>55838110
oh nevermind, I just saw that the 6P is 5.7"

>>
>>55838265

That's a little misleading, because both the 6S and 6S Plus start at $650. However that's for the 16GB model. For the 64GB model you're paying $750, which is insane.

It wouldn't be bad if they supported SD cards, but 16GB on a phone with no expandable memory is a god damn insult and it doesn't help your cheapest model is more expensive than many phones that offer better storage and pricing options

My mother is finally moving up from a flip phone and asked me to look into phones for her.
Any phones close to 4.7" and less than $250 worth looking into?
A bit separate, but she is a better writer than typist, so is looking into a phone with a stylus worth it? Or is it just a gimmick?

I want a 5" Smartphone. Xiaomi Mi4 or Redmi 3S, which is better ?
>>
>>55838871
3s Pro.
>>
>>55838900
3s Pro is the 3s ? Or it's a different one ?
>>
>>55838961
3s is the 2/16 gb ram/rom version.
3s Pro is the 3/32 gb ram/rom version.

Both SD430 and same specs otherwise.
>>
>>55839016
Thanks anon. So 3S Pro is better than Mi4 and Mi4c ?
>>
>>55839048
I'd say so. It's a newer model, runs Android 6.0 and has a huge battery.

Mi4 is too old and Mi4c is nice if you want cheap good performance (SD808 - same SoC on the N5X and LG G4), although it's known to overheat and throttle under heavy load. also smaller battery and probably won't get marshmallow.
>>
>>55838811
you know there are people that dont download blockbusters on their phones and can live with 32gb
>>
>>55839115
But according to this: http://www.kimovil.com/es/donde-comprar-xiaomi-mi4c-3gb-32gb
The Mi4c is the best quality/price right now. And it outperforms the 3s according to Antutu.
>>
>>55839189
Like I said, SD808 is faster than SD430. if performance is all that matters to you than Mi4c the way to go because it's hard to beat at that price.

However it has a smaller battery, lacks an SD slot, and is probably stuck on 5.1 forever.

But yeah it's probably the cheapest phone with SD808 so if your'e gaymin and such you should get it.
>>
>>55839249
Actually I don't play games, but like I said that site said it had the best performance. So if it's for normal use, the 3S is the best right?

Thanks anon!
>>
>>55832915
None. Why would you keep porn pics for. Delete all the porn you have right now.
>>
>>55839305
If your'e not doing heavy stuff on your phone I think the 3gb ram 3s will be good enough. Mi4c is probably twice as fast though. comes down to what you prefer really.
>>
I want to get an unlocked S7. I have a Verizon plan, but I don't want their bloatware. Can I buy the S7 from Samsung's site and switch over to it on Verizon without incidents like losing signal quality and such?

Sorry for the likely simple question, but I don't follow phone stuff much, and I've only had one smartphone to date (droid razr m). It seems like there shouldn't be a problem because of Verizon's "bring your own device" thing, but I figured I'd ask you here, first, just to make sure.

Also, tangentially related, can I delete Samsung/Google default apps like Facebook with an unlocked phone? I don't use most of them at all.
>>
>>55839141

Samsung does not sell unlocked S7s. Get a Nexus 6p if you don't want bloat.

Anyone?

I just want to know if everything will work the same way as if I'd got it through Verizon's store.
>>
>>55839879
Of course you can, that's the whole idea of an unlocked phone.

You can remove facebook and most google apps but you can't delete the Samsung apps like s-health and all that other shit because they're a part of touchwizz.
With nova launcher and goodlock you can hide most of them though.
