Okay, guys... someone recommended Fedora and I'm liking it so far, but do I use RPMFusion or this new one called United RPMs?
>>55830089
It does not matter.
fedora is shit
use debian
debian is shit
use opensuse
opensuse is shit
use arch
>>55830089
didn't you just try yum/dnf install package?
>>55830089
RPMFusion is more stable. I don't exactly trust United yet.
>>55832403
This. Stick with RPMFusion for now. Fedora's recommended repos are the official, RPMFusion and Copr.
Those are also the ones supported by the IRC chans.
>>55831735
arch is shit
use slackware
>>55832455
slackware is pleb tier
install gentoo
>>55832489
gentoo is obsolete
use fedora
Why does Fedora have to insist on this clusterfuck with their repos? It feels like they're fighting the user from installing software. It's such a pain in the ass compared to other distros. I like certain aspects of Fedora but I just can't deal with this nonsense.
>>55832518
It's one or two lines in the terminal. What are you crying about, faggot?
>>55832518
This is just a temporary situation, once systemd's package manager is complete then apt, yum, pacman, etc. will be obsolete.
> Linux Mint
Maintainers seem incompetent. Go to *buntu or Debian instead.
> Ubuntu
Works well, though the company behind it has some weird choices not everyone agrees with (e.g. teaming up with companies like M$, Amazon, etc.)
> Debian
You can't go wrong with Debian. It's one of the distros a lot of other distros are based upon (e.g. Ubuntu, Mint, etc).
The stable release doesn't have the latest shinies, but it's called stable for a reason.
> Fedora
Great distro, especially for developers. It's definitely not as stable as Debian, but in exchange for stability it has the latest versions of software. If you wish to try this don't forget to enable the RPMFusion repo if you want non-free drivers like Nvidia's.
> CentOS
Great choice for servers, just like Debian.
> openSUSE
Not much experience with this one. They seem to make some weird choices where you may get unexpected behaviour if you have tried other distro's before.
> Arch
Fun to try, but if you are looking for:
- Bleeding edge: try Fedora
- Build from scratch: try any distro's netinst or Gentoo
> Gentoo
Definitely a nice distro. Just not for me for Desktop usage. Too much work to maintain.
> BSD (FreeBSD, OpenBSD)
This would be my go to OS if I would not be into PC gaming.
