Looking for a good programming theory book to read for beginners. Planning to study theory in depth and then just read documentation to learn actual languages. Is pic related still relevant? Anything you would recommend?
Keep looking bub

Nice book. Explains many things about computing taking Lisp as a instructional language. Thought me a lot.

There's a lot of theory and books on different aspects:

If you want something on the theory of computation then get savage

Looks like exactly the kind of resource I'm looking for.
Thanks a bunch

I know of nothing better.

Scheme a shit. After reading SICP, jump into Common Lisp. I recommend Common Lisp: A Gentle Introduction to Symbolic Computation by Touretzky and then PAIP.

Cheers
Reading the start it seems a bit over my head but I will read it slowly and make the most of it. It's been a long while since I've done maths.

Funny, right now I'm reading this book.
I'm at page 100, and it's really cool, I enjoy it very much even though I'm programming for years..
If you don't want to install Scheme you can just google "online scheme REPL" and do the examples online..
