What's the point of this thread?

Congrats, you built a midrange pc. Now fuck off
>>
Couldn't have ponied up another $100 or so for a better processor? Also, even a small SSD could provide a big benefit. Otherwise, not bad.
>>
>>55826792
Why would you need a better processor with a 950 retard? It's not a bottleneck even with a 960. That being said I agree with the SSD.

falcon pls review mine

I have been laboring over this build since I know nothing about building computers. I just want to play shit like stalker and BF1 on ultra

I picked the monitor off of logical increments but I'm not sure if there are better options out there now
>>
>>55826828
My budget was originally $1200 but I figure I'd rather pay extra to have nice stuff (but not go too overboard)

I would suggest you swap to a ~500GB 2.5" SSD. Those can be had for ~$120-$130 now, not far from the $100 your putting in for the 256GB M.2 drive.

I have a couple of those screens, or maybe an older version. Want pics?
>>
>>55826886
is the m.2 not worth it? frankly I'm not sure what the m.2 is, someone just said to use that instead since it was better.

>>55826886
I'd love some pics, as well as your thoughts on that model! Still the best 1080p ips monitors for around that price? I'd be willing to spend more for a nicer monitor, I just don't think I want a TN panel that comes with the 144hz jump
>>
>>55826808
I don't use my cpu and/or gpu for gaming, so I guess I look at the specs a bit differently. I see what you mean about the bottleneck though

M.2 may be worth it, if it is over PCIe, and if you need the speed. For everyday use, the price increase is not worth it. If it was the same price as a normal 256GB drive, it is fine.

I do not have the MX, but the VX version of the screen. Different stand, not sure what else is different.

Screen is not truly borderless, as you can see here. The panel stops something like ~5mm from the edge of the glass.

Otherwise, fine screen.

Glossy back and power brick. No VESA mounts if you can for the sort of thing. Built in speakers are complete trash, so do not count on it for audio.

I will look into a larger ssd and forgo the m.2 version, thank you for the advice. I cannot determine the difference between the VX and MX versions either aside from the color and price (on amazon - silver MX is $180, black VX is $300). it appears to be a nice screen and it looks like you use it as a daily driver at work? do you think it is suitable for a single monitor setup for gaming as well?

>>55827179
only tilt adjust, right? do you find the lack of other adjustment methods annoying or does it really not matter too much? I have never owned a desktop or monitor so I'm unaware as to how important it is

Thank you for taking the time to help me and give advice, I truly appreciate it. I have looked at this pcpartpicker list for so long, too afraid to buy anything in case I made bad choices.
>>
>>55827249
Only tilt adjust. VX is $300, probably because it is an older model with little stock left, not because it is better.

>do you think it is suitable for a single monitor setup for gaming as well?
It is a pretty screen, 1080p@60Hz IPS. It will not stand as an equal to 1440p or 144Hz screens, but it is fine for a mid-tier screen. Do not just buy it without extra research though: See what else is available at the same price range. Maybe you will find an alternative with height adjust, or DisplayPort (this VX model has only HDMI). I bought it because it fit my price range, but I bought it about a year ago, so better options might be available to you.

After some light research:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236583
This seems to be the latest model from Asus in the "thin-bezel" range. And it is quite cheap: $120.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4P02TN0489
Dell "slim bezel" alternative for $180. Better stand, not sure if that is worth $60 more.
>>
>>55827292
I looked at 1440p online and while it is nice, I should probably couple a 1070 with it which really bumps up the price. I've never seen 1440p in person so I would have to go to bestbuy or something to see one in action

My first build considered all the same pieces as what I linked above ( http://pcpartpicker.com/list/nrLb8K ) but with this monitor

https://www.amazon.com/PB258Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00VRKVGJG

and a 1070.

I think 144hz is out for me since they're all TN unless you really get up there in price. Is DisplayPort important? I though hdmi would be identical in appearance.

>>55827354
I will have to consider these as well for the 1060 build. However, do you think the 1070 coupled with that 1440p monitor would be better in the long run? I was afraid the higher resolution would be difficult to read and use.
>>
>>55827416
Obviously, a 1070+1440p would be better than a 1060+1080p. However, the price increase would be large: ~$250-$300, depending on what items you buy.

I cannot tell you if that is worth it or not, since it is your budget and you know your own limits better than I do. My personal take is to spend conservatively, and live within my means... which is why I have a 1080p screen and a 560 Ti at home, and I am not upgrading till I can afford it.

That said, if the extra ~$250 is not big deal to you, 1440p is a sweet upgrade over 1080p. If you can afford it, you will not regret it.

I am going afk. Best of luck, anon!
