If you ever feel useless, remember. There is a root password in Linux when you can just

sudo needs to be installed in order to run it though

I'm sure sudo can be configured to disallow "sudo su", or the user you're running as doesn't have sudo rights. Sudo can also be configured to ask for the ROOT password instead (it's all in /etc/sudoers)
Also you can just run "sudo -i" instead.
