What about this ?

I'm quite disappointed at the quality of these "cheaper" (still $29) Hirsch straps' quality, fäm. I've only worn this one about twice a week for 2 months, and it already looks quite beat up. Stick with Fluco at this price range, or go for their $45+ offerings.
>>55807171
It's almost impossible to find a proper Swiss mechanical chronograph new for <$1,000. Tissot has some just under that but they have the shitty new plastic movements. It all comes down to how badly you want a chrono. If you're not willing to spend $1,000+, mecha quartz is your only choice.
>>55807171
>>55807555
Btw, if you're not dead set on the autodromo but want something with the same movement, look for any Seiko watch with a 6T63 movement, which is what the VK64 is derived from.
>>55807171
>>55807724
The autodromo is expensive for what it is. Another cheaper vk64 alternative is made by helgray (Silverstone/Silverstein/something). Often available used.
>>55807171
Autodromo is a little overpriced. If you want a racing inspired meca-quartz chronograph you can get a Stuckx Bull or Moto Koure MKI for a couple hundred bucks cheaper.

I have an Omega Speedmaster but I want a watch that is cheaper, which I can use daily without worrying about how expensive it is.

I am joking but lawyeranon and many others do use speedmasters as everyday beaters

>>55809810
That's what I was afraid of. I had been looking at this watch, seemed promising enough. Does seiko make good automatics? Looking for something a tad less understated, something with a leather band maybe.
>>55809921
if you up your budget a little, you could go for a nice SARB. They are simple 3 hands with dates, in a sporty case that is suitable for dress as well.
the Seiko 5 can be had for 150 and under but it lacks features such as hand winding or hacking, and they are diverse and mostly come on cheap bracelets or nylon bands

Is this the case of a decent watch ruined by TGV/Archie? I don't see anything particularly wrong with it, at that price point. It's not even an homage to anything.
>>55810902
I would be all over the 3rd gen monster because it's better in everyway technically, but they got rid of the fang indices (basically the fucking namesake of the watch) and gave it a cyclops that had no reason to be there
Also the retarded price
What the actual fuck Seiko?
>>55810981
You're forgetting they added a 6R15 movement. But yeah, the cyclops on the crystal was a really retarded idea.
I waited a bit for my 2nd gen, but you can still easily score a 2nd gen or a 2,5 gen one if you lurk around.
>>55811021
I know about the movement upgrade.
Isn't the monster 4 more expensive/same price as the sumo?
>>55810777
The Tudor in-house standard isn't publicly defined as far as I know. How many positions and temperatures is it adjusted in? Not sure, it could be the typical 5 position Swiss standard or the more Japanese style testing with 6 positions?
Ablogtowatch says tudor claimed -2+4 for the Pelagos (MT5612). Forbes has said quoted Davide Cerrato saying its +-3. Neither have commented on positions adjusted to or anything else really.
On the movement pages of their website they claim COSC but not better. Same with the pages of watches that use their movement. And their watches don't say they are superlative chronometers like Rolex. If it makes sense for Rolex to advertise their better than cosc accuracy, why wouldn't Tudor?
But regardless. Your basic GS mechanical is -3+5 per day adjusted to 6 positions, -2+4 per day for the mechanical special, +-15 per month for all spring drives, and +-10 seconds per year for quartz. Meaning the Tudor movements are more accurate than some GS mechanicals... maybe.
So
>a Tudor is better and more accurate than most Grand Seikos.
They're certainly not better, and I'm really surprised to hear someone thinks they're more accurate than a line that produces mostly highly accurate, thermocompensated quartz movements as their most sold models.
Where do you faggots get your watch news from? I'm not going to watch some fat aussie or weird looking guido

Hi there!

You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. Are Meca Quartz watches looked down upon ?
I was reading more about them and the concept seems really cool, ingenious even.
So why are they so much cheaper than pure mechanical watches?
>>55813208
>>55813275
>So why are they so much cheaper than pure mechanical watches?
The base movement is quartz, which saves costs, while the ingenious part is the chronograph layer that is pseudo-mechanical/mechanical.
Full mechanical chronographs are complicate things to boot.
>>55811084
>And their watches don't say they are superlative chronometers
It could just be marketing or design ?
High accuracy Seikos don't say superlative chronometer either, no?
Also sounds like you're being rather harsh on Tudor. In terms of bang for your buck they are top tier for a European watch.
They could easily be charging 50% more for it due to their comparative quality to more famous brands.
>>55813329
more famous brandds that own them and dictate the price per se?
>>55813335
Yes, but my point is that their watches are legitimately comparable to Rolex. Not quite there. But if Omega can charge $11k for some of their watches, then Tudors prices suddenly seem like a good deal.
And in the grey market they are priced reasonably. Tudors can be found at just over $2k, brand new.
>>55813329
>They could easily be charging 50% more for it due to their comparative quality to more famous brands.
But then they would be Rolex.
>>55813329
>High accuracy Seikos don't say superlative chronometer either, no?
Chronometer is a legal term that refers to certified by COSC (depending if that's a law in your country.) So while the grand seiko standard exceeds COSC, that doesn't mean they can legally call it a chronometer. But Rolex gets that certification, (chronometer) and then exceeds it (superlative.) If it's marketing to not fully claim the accuracy of the Tudor movements, it's because they're not that great or they want to reserve that sort of marketing praise on their main Rolex line. Which is certainly possible.
>Also sounds like you're being rather harsh on Tudor.
I don't think I said anything particularly harsh. I mentioned some basic things without necessarily pushing any hard conclusions about their possible accuracy figures. The only thing I really said is that they're not better or more accurate than most GS. This is something one could debate or disagree with, but not something one would consider harsh.
Where should I go to get a decently good fake Rolex?
>>55813713
You can't.
Just buy an Orient Ray instead.
>>55813713
As I said before, save up $500 and do your own research. It's extremely doubtfully worth it though - you could get something more interesting or higher bang per buck than a rep subC with rep movement for that price though.

Those white caps are elusive and hard to get though.

Hi /g/, watch newfag coming from /fa/ here.
Where does /g/ buy watches? Retail exclusively? I kind of want a minimal olive/tan field watch like a Seiko 5/Aevig Corvid but they're both out of production from what I can gather. I'm pretty convinced every watch online that doesn't cost $1k+ is fake as fuck and from Singapore.
I have a $200-$300 budget, but I feel a simple field watch won't even cost that much.

>>55818152
So you know when you're about to run out of air and to time your ascent so you don't get the bends. That's why dive watches have unidirectional bezels, you're supposed to set them at the start of a dive so you know how long you've been under, and they only turn "backwards" so you can't bump them and make it seem like you've got more time than you do.
That said, I don't think many divers rely on a traditional watch these days, most use electronic dive computers that add features like depth and air tank readouts. A simple mechanical backup isn't the worst thing to have, though, and I'm sure plenty of divers wear them just because they're kind of a cool "badge of honor" thing, just like pilots wearing pilot watches that they'll probably never actually use.

He knew what he was talking about as well, he thought it was a 6xxx movement. Turned it over and saw it was a 52xx then remarked on how old it was and the difficulty to get parts
>>55825957
Is that just a fedora joke or are those actually decent quality due the anime having created a market for these kind of watches
I'm looking at getting a Seiko 5 SNK809, is it easy to remove to metal bracelet and replace it with a leather band?
>>55826171
The snk809 doesn't come on a bracelet, but yes it's easy.
>>55826171
It's very easy like the other guy said, a very small micro screwdriver can be used to compress the spring bars. Look up a YouTube video on it. But a watch maker would charge you like $5 to do it
>all these poorfags buying Seiko
>>55826241
>>55826286
Sorry, had the wrong code on the clipboard. Meant to say SNKM41K1
>>55825957
>Why would you put incabloc in a pocket watch?
Who knows
>>55826413
It's still the same, very easy
>>55826413
Yes you can.
I would suggest the snk809 though. Cheaper, so you can get a really nice leather strap for it (like a colareb) and still be at less than 100.
The 5 shield just doesn't work with the dressy aesthetic imo
>>55826504
Thank you. Followup question, do I need to buy a specific strap for it or is the width of a strap the only thing I need to concern myself with?
>>55826512
I might get one down the line for more casual wear but I want something minimal that has a leather band which I can wear with business-casual.

>I might get one down the line for more casual wear but I want something minimal that has a leather band which I can wear with business-casual.
Why not save up for a actual dressy piece? It would only be 200 or 300 more bucks and you would get a vastly superior watch
>>55826650
I work as a school teacher and don't want to be wearing anything too expensive. Also, most pieces I've seen in that price range are quartz which is a deal breaker.
If you have anything specific in mind I'm all ears though.

what's the verdict on rotary watches? if I can find a cheap quartz under 40$ is it worth it?
what automatic movements fo they use?
any red flags?
>>55827242
They don't make watches. Their Chinese business partners do. They only market the watches.
>>55825291
Get a vintage Bulova Accutron railroad approved. They have a cool tuning fork movement, there's an anonymous here that has one that I am jelly of.
I'd get one but I'm saving up for a Rolex no date Sub or Milgauss.
>>55826591
Yeah, it should be listed in the description of you are buying it online. You can get away with 1mm too big or small on a leather strap but it won't look amazing
Metal bracelets are a little different, not all bracelets fit each other, all leather straps fit on a watch if it's the right size
>>55827282
that doesn't really answer my question.
do the watches that say Rotary on them fall apart? if I find one under 40$ is that still too much? who's movements do they use for their automatics
>>55827136
The word 'ugly' isn't strong enough for that hideous thing.
>>55827242
Get a vintage Rotary from when they were well made Swiss watches.
>>55827359
If you're curious about specific movements and Chinese factories a brand like rotary uses, just google something like 'watchuseek [brand] movement'
I wouldn't buy one. But their warranty is good, so if it does fall apart they'll give you a new one.

A lot of them are either Raketsa with a badly printed dials w/ either the correct 2623 movement or a modfied 2609. Pic related looks to be in absolute shit shape.
Search for a Raketa 24H or a Raketa 2623 if you want a correct one, pic related is a correct example.
>>55831994
This one has a 2609.
How exactly do they modify the movement for 24 hours?

This one has the 2623 but looks a bit more kicked around
