Yes, in general. But they do something open ones don't. They isolate you from outside noise and they isolate the outside from your bad taste in music. Sometimes people need one of these two things, so that's what closed are for.

i dont have great english, but ill try to explain it the best i can
open headphones are best to mix because closed headphones will not allow you to experience the real reverberation your music should have
if you use closed headphones, you add a reverberation room to your mix (the room between the headphones and your ears) therefore, you do not hear what your exact product should be
open headphones will let the sound resonate naturally, but you need to be in a room with proper acoustic, like a mixing studio
if you only want to listen to music, open headphones are useless
Might as well ask this here since its been on my mind recently.
Why is it that multi driver headphones are considered shit? Im not talking about those stupid "5.1" gayman headphones, im referring to a more typical woofer/midrange+tweeter combo with crossover like most bookshelf speakers.
I thought the whole point of using taylored drivers was because a single driver capable of a full 20-20khz repsonse is more or less impossible.
If your listening space is dead silent then open.
But even the slightest background noise then closed is better.
closed headphones and headphones in general are for shameful NEETs who have to hide their autistic anime music from their parents
they are all shitty ersatz speakers anyway
