Directory structure: Broad category (eg JAV, western, hentai, etc) -> name of girl (for any girl I want to keep a significant collection of, there's a folder called one-shots for girls I just have one video of) -> big pile of video files. Some JAV stuff I do by studio/series instead of girl. If I have image sets, they go in a folder under that girl's directory.

I don't tag anything. I found that usually, even if I think I just want any old facial/lesbian/threesome/whatever, I actually probably have something more specific in mind, that pops into my head as soon as I go looking. Your mileage may vary.

I would like to kinda browse through tags (like television) so I can get a feel for what I want to watch specifically and then maybe delve deeper into that girls work or similar girls. it's an eight-drive RAID6 array on my Linux machine, mounted as a network share. Raw storage is about 22TB, of which just under 17 is usable. The porn aint the only thing on there, there's a big pile of anime and crap too.

I'd love to have a set up like that. Eventually I will. I've only got a DS216J right now so I think my max storage capacity is around 16 TB. I'll be getting a couple of 4 TB Reds next month so at least I'll have some significant head room from my 1 TB drive right now. Even with one just as a back up I'll have 4 times the space I do currently.

Eh, my life's pretty good. I'm a web developer and only have to work 4 days a week. I've got a girlfriend, a cat, a car, health insurance and a few good hobbies.

I also have niche porn interests and a bit of a compulsion for order and hoarding data. It's easier to keep my TV shows and movies organized than this, there's just so much variation.

You could easily create folders for all your 'tags' and put Symlink copies to your files in the folders.
That is the simplest method if you don't want to use Finder's built in tagging.
You could also use some document management software for it, but the ones I know, like iDocument, will rely on Mac OS' tagging feature.

To this end, there's actually a really neat piece of software made by some anon called "Hydrus Network". It lets you import your images into your own little mini booru. It has some downsides (for instance, it discards filenames, which is a shame if you like having silly filenames), but as a whole it's pretty neat and has quite a lot of shit packed into it (especially given that it's made by a single dude). One thing that's particularly neat is that you can sync up your images to other repositories (namely, one big huge public one) and tag archives, and it'll automatically tag your images for you (it's not 100%, although I believe the dev is going to be adding inline iqdb support and a few other things to help you tag more images). It's got some other cool things going for it too (like some booru scraper type stuff), I recommend you guys check it out.
