Would an E5-2670 with a GTX1070 make for a good gaming PC build?

I've had a similar build with a 2670 and a r9 fury. It worked well but I then switched to a 3930k since a lot of games that I played (Gmod, dark souls and others) didn't like the slow single threaded performance of it. Maybe shoot for a 3930k or 4930k. The 2670 probably would be fine if you can't go for anything else

If you're lucky to get one without having to pay a scalper that is... The cards probably won't be available in significant numbers until at least the autumn, so if you want a rig with one you're probably going to wait until then. You can thank Nvidia's sneaky "paper-launch-masked-as-actual-launch" strategy for that.

That processor is EOL, it's probably removed from decommissioned servers. It's also on the 2011 platform, which means basically nobody wants them.

msrp was 375. No idea where you live but 1070s dont even go past 500 in Europe, which pays a fucking premium for being Europe.

First you need to overclock that CPU.
Then you need to get those expensive motherboard.

Finally you need either heavy multi-threaded game to make use of that.

For that low clock speed, its might be okay cpu. But because of low clock, you'll be limited. Many older games use only 2 cores only and benefits with high clockspeed.

Older games run on shit processors, so that's not something you need to worry about. It's new single threaded games that don't run well.
