Are gateron switches better than cherry mx? I'd like to pick up a Varmilo VA68M with blues but i'm not sure if they're any better than regular cherry blues
Also, can anyone make a recommendation for a normal 60% with pbt caps and blue switches? I've looked at the pok3r but i'd have to get a new set of keys and at that price I'd just rather get a more expensive keyboard that I can stick with the default set without them wearing out

Get tactile clears from winkeyless. They are the same thing but 0.50 each.

In my experience 67g is much better than 78g. 78g feels lighter in the beginning and heavier at bottoming out, while 67 feels heavier throughout.

Does this mean we're posting literal memeboards?
>>
>>55741288

because some douchecanoe named ripster runs it. got banned from geekhack, deskthority, hardforum etc for being an insufferable twat.

he's known for things like 1upping every single post, taking "keyboard science" way too seriously and starting arguments with people for the dumbest shit. the subreddit just follows that lead.
>>
>>55741288
I think it comes down to their voting system more than anything.

Memes = to the top
Quality posts/discussion = disliked

And my god the artisans.......

I still think it's a good resource for finding pics of shit that I want before I buy it however

>>

basically not comparable. The only thing they have in common is that both are (probably, depending on the quality of the scissors) quite tactile, so once you reach a threshold the switch "collapses". They still feel totally different though.

Everything in the world of autistic keyboards for nerds comes from the selectric. The model M is an attempt at replicating a keystroke that feels like the triggerpull of an italian shotgun that costs more than your car and it doesn't really deliver on anything but the noise. Everything else is just clicky shit. Certainly better than scissor keys, but it's like typing on a keyboard 15 years ago instead of fingerfucking a jaguar on mescaline.

Also, I'm about to get Vortex PBT keycaps for this thing, what do you guys think about this set on a black TKL?

>Budget
Irrelevant

>Location
Europe/Germany

Using Cherry MX Red, love the feel of them, so preferrably something similar to that.

>Layout
German

>Form factor
As small as possible, without the tenkey thingies on the right but preferrably with all those utility buttons like delete, pos1 etc.
I don't need the arrowkeys

>Backlight
Not necessary but a nice bonus. Definitely don't need RGB though. Simple blue or white is good.

looking for the exact same thing. (+ fn media keys on the insert/home/pgup row if possible)

Initially wanted to get a ducky tkl, but those seem to be impossible to get with a german layout.
DAS seems kind of nice, but has this huge bezel
WASD v2 88-key seems to fit best, but the extra cost for shipping and customs is just too much

Availability for tkl with german layout is just horrible.
Might just get one with UK ISO layout and then replace the caps, if that's not too expensive.

I have both and I find my Zealios R1 more tactile. Seems to be related to the bottom housing giving more pressure, as replacing Zealios stems with aristotles gave a much louder click than doing the same with gateron tactile clears.

Not sure about Zealios R2 and R3 tho.

I got my first keyboard mire today, /g/.

I was just doing work at my new job today (non-tech) and one of the senior managers came up to me and told me he liked my mech and he was thinking about getting one for work too because he has a topre at home but has to deal with a shitty rubberdome at work. We talked a bit about Cherry switch type and how he wishes he could just use a HHKB for work, but it wouldn't be practical for our work.

And that's kinda it. But I was honestly kinda surprised someone would even notice, let alone know about mechs. Felt good.

Because the guy doing it in secret made the first group buy, so in their mind nobody should do another groupbuy on the same color without contacting them first.

One to finish up that minimized AEK, the other two for whatever I'll be doing next. Got two numpads and a 40% (want to try etching my own PCBs) planned, depending on how workable they are I'll order some more, they're only five bucks a pop.
Oh yes, the memeforce needs some fixing too, but I can probably fix that without having to go as far as replacing the controller.

I don't know shit about microcontrollers or coding, but they use the same chip as the teensies, so I'm guessing that it should work out fine with the TMK firmware.

Will do. I'll be enrolling in electrical engineering school soon after the start of next month, but I should probably get around to doing that sometime within the next two months or so. Hopefully I'll also have a bit more of an idea of what I'm doing with electronics. Should be fun, though the good stuff like messing with microcontrollers only comes far later.

>>55749945
Old problems. No idea why they suddenly showed up again, but it's even worse than it used to be now. I plug the thing in, and it immediately starts spamming keys along the second column. I have no idea why, there's nothing shorting out and it's connected to the controller just fine. I'm quite sure it's a problem with the firmware, but I have no idea why the firmware is suddenly fucking itself. I didn't even do any troubleshooting yet since I haven't had the time, but I have a feeling it'll be one hell of a pain.

Yeah, I think so. I'm honestly not quite sure myself, they're these ones here

>>55750025
Most likely is a very big help. All I need is the spacing of the pins and the switch holes so I know where to drill. Doing the traces should be quite simple business. I'll just have to see if the local printing places have laser printers or how to actually go about getting that thing down on a copper plate so I can etch it.

The scale of the scan is 100%, right?

anything cheaper is going to be chinese board and with those your mileage may vary. also reconsider if you really need a numpad (hint: most people say they do but actually don't), or if you could live with an external numpad.

>>55759321
linears are best switch type, don't let people tell you otherwise
>>
>>55759342
I play CS:GO a lot and need it for binds n' shit, so I do need it, but not for anything really important. Having said that, I'm ready to drop $130 for a G810 so price isn't much of an issue and I can afford a full board
>>
>>55759102
I want one. I have a Microsoft Sculpt which is pretty comfy off the shelf; you should look into it
>>
>>55759342
I just found the Logitech G610, basically the 810 but with white LEDs instead of RGB, and comes with Cherry MX red or brown switches. Only costs 89.99 on Amazon rn
>>
>>55759833
And has a non-standard bottom row.
>>
>>55746379
get a whitefox or something, its on massdrop right now.

I'm still typing on a Model M from 16 Jan 1991. It's two years older than me, and after replacing a few springs, in amazing working order. It's hilarious when I'm chatting with friends that the most common response is that no keyboard should be that loud.
>>
So I've been typing on a Model M at home for years, is there any switch that's comparable to the feel of buckling springs? Forgive me, I'm rather new but I would like to learn.
>>
>>55760358
Amber omrons aren't too far off, white ALPS are probably the next-nearest.

Beamsprings are easily the smoothest and best feeling tactiles, but cost upwards of $400 plus converters.
>>
>>55760540
Thank you, I appreciate it. I need a keyboard for work; I can't deal with the rubber ones.
>>
>>55760588
Welcome, is there a reason you want to move away from model Ms, and not get something like a model F?

Or do you just want to try something different?
>>
who chink keyboards here?
feels good getting what used to be $100+ for <$40. and no I don't care that the switches feel slightly different from legit cherry mx.
>>
>>55760622
No particular reason; just wanting to try something different. I would imagine that they'll be increasingly hard to find and keep up with maintenance as time goes on since they're ancient by technology standards.
>>
>>55760703
Standard keyboards haven't actually advanced a whole lot since then, they still use membranes
>>
What do you think about the corsair K70?
>>
>>55763683
piece of shit with a non-standard bottom row, like any mech from corsair.

Next.

Which one is a good mechanical keyboard?
>>
>>55764085
HHKB

If you'd actually bother filling out the buyers template we could recommend you something that actually fits what you want though.
>>
>>55760540
5576-002s aren't that expensive.

>Budget
would prefer 60-80€
I could go higher but I need some reason why
>Location (continent at least)
EU
>Preferred switch type
I am thinking brown, tactile is what I am interested in, and want also quiet
>Layout
classic.. uh.. ISO I am thinking
>Form factor
ten key less, no numpad version
>Backlight
would love, but price dependant..
>Previous/current keyboards
some 10€ logitech

I am looking at "Cooler Master Rapid-I"
cheapest around here is 95€
theres no usb hub on the side or back that I would fucking love
but watching videos of its features, especially individual light up keys is quite awesome

Also are those khali switches terrible?

What alternatives are there to it?
Also I am a linux user if it matters.

Why do I have to suffer like this?

Are you outside US? Try using a shipping proxy. Or just find it at aliexpress.

Well everyone complains about plebbit "keyboard science" while /g/ is infested by glorified rubber dome owners like that tripfag who is filtered by everyone.

Does anyone by chance know if there are any Ducky TKL RGB with ISO layout available anywhere or do these simply not exist?

I actually haven't seen anyone complain about keyboard science so far. That stuff is top tier information.

The guy who does it may be a raging autist, but unless you care about reddit/geekhack drama that has no place here, that shouldn't disturb you in the first place.

Not sure what your problem with glorified rubber domes is either. Pic related, glorified rubber dome owner and shameful wearer of flip-flops when too lazy to put on proper shoes reporting in

>>55765047
There's the MK disco, made in cooperation with ducky, but I don't think it comes in ISO.
>>
>>55764525
just buy rgb leds and hide them on your keyboard
>>
why the fuck are keycaps so expensive, and why do you cucks actually pay $100+ for some of them?
>>
>>55765355
because it's a niche product in an already niche market. Most people don't even use mechs, the few people who do will just use them with the stock keycaps, and the few enthusiasts that are left will then fill the market for fancy aftermarket keycaps.

People pay 100 bucks or more for them because they want them and they can afford them. That's how just about anything that involves paying a certain amount of money for a product works.
