Can I somehow mod AMD drivers so that I can crossfire HD 5870 and HD 6870, since performance is just about identical?
>>55713881
They're completely different GPUs. No.
>>55713955
Performance is identical though and vram is the same, so if I somehow tricked drivers into thinking the hd6870 was a hd5870 it still couldn't work?
>>55714026
But their performance is not identical besides being very different
>>55714026
no, that's like saying "hey can I slice a ford and toyota SUV in half and superglue it and make it werk? XD"
yes they have 4 wheels, yes they got a windshield and a driver's seat, but no.
no, no and no.
>>55714026
if you did that the drivers would probably crash and/or BSOD. 6000 series uses a different architecture than the 5000 series.
>>55714026
You're a fucking retard whose concept of computers extends no further than “numbers advertised in the product title”.
>>55714037
I have tested both in gta v and bf4, they're both roughly the same. Give or take 2-3 fps difference.
>>55714051
Aren't they both using the same legacy driver from AMD?
>>55714044
Damn, I was hoping so because I saw the dx12 thing and thought I could maybe trick AMD drivers into something similar
>>55714111
>Give or take
>Identical
Pick one moron.
It's like saying a 75 hp diesel has the same performance as a 73 hp petrol engine.
>>55714111
I wish I had a /g/ related one of these but this will have to do. If this was possible in the slightest, there would be tons of people doing it.
>>55714111
it doesn't matter if they use the same driver. if you trick the driver into thinking its a chip that it isn't, it won't function properly. it would be like speaking spanish to someone who only knows portuguese. they wouldn't understand most of what you're saying.
>>55714129
this is a great analogy
What about this?

>Disclaimer: Please try this only at your own risk!!! Even though the worst that may happen is that Catalyst will disable the softmodded card, modding always comes with some risk of a mini mushroom cloud
Try and you'll see

Both the 5870 and 6870 are TeraScale 2. Not that it's relevant really.
>>55714318
5870 is VLIW5, 6870 is VLIW4
the correct answer is.
the cards would only work if it is a rebrand.
the cards though feature slightly modified architectures so it is a impossible task for directx11.
people who commented here but don't understand shit, should just leave /g/ until they achieve the proper knowledge to post again
