its been happening pretty much since i installed it last year, and yes i've already manually installed the latest intel drivers from what windows had pulled automatically

Daily reminder that the Linux kernel can't recover from video/audio drivers. Daily reminder that this problem was fixed in all the other OSes in 2003. Daily reminder that the people in charge of the kernel development already said that they won't fix this problem because ISSUE_WILL_NOT_BE_FIXED. You should be grateful that Windows is great and reloads your GUI lad.
