Why has webcam technology stagnated so significantly?
If you're buying a webcam, you pretty much have two choices: budget (aka shit) tier or the C920.
There has been literally zero other options for 4 !!! Godamn years.
Because smartphones.
Why do you need other options? What more do you want out of a webcam?

4K 144hz.
Because you can't really transmit high quality video in real time
People buy laptops and use the cam inside or use a phone.

Ease of availability of decent, integrated solutions.
It's what's killed the markets for:
Low-end Dedicated GPUs
Compact Cameras
Personal Media Players
Audio/Sound Cards
"Computer Speakers"
High-Perf. non-gaming mice
Low-to-mid range computer microphones
All of these are/have been integrated into Laptops/Computers/Phones and the casual consumer no longer needs to buy a "compact camera" when their iPhone takes an acceptable photo and is always with them. Nobody cares about a low-end dedicated GPU when their processor's built-in GPU can handle everything it could just fine. The thought of a long-living, reasonable performing, well designed non-gaming mouse is absurd these days. Consumers'll buy a $15 Logitech Wireless mouse that's gonna die/get lost after the 3rd battery change every time.
Acceptable front-facing cameras are already in Phones and tablets (the preferred method of communication for most people anyway), laptops, and AiOs, so the only people buying external USB webcams are power users and legacy users. Both of which make for terrible markets to sell to.
To be fair, with the advent of streamers becoming big, it seems there is a little bit of renewed interest in quality webcams, but ultimately, >>55710568 is right. Why have a source device crank out a resolution, frame rate, and bit-rate that a live-stream is going to downsample to hell anyway.

Because you can drop $10 on a dv or other small handheld at a flea market, capture the output from that and have the highest quality webcam in existence without spending a retarded amount of money on logishit.

Fuck off

Infrastructure doesn't really support much else. You either have budget internet that can just barely stream from your budget camera, or you spend a lot of money on your internet and are able to utilize a higher quality stream.

it looks like it cannot be turned sideways or even tilted up/down, even my 3$ no name cam can do it
even worse is that you cant even trust the specs
