Keyboard feels surprisingly nice to type on, it's got depth, like a desktop keyboard.
My mate told me if I can fix it, I can keep it.
I'm legitimately considering it because my current laptop is a turionx2 with 4gb ddr2 ram and HD3200m gpu.
Just wanted your opinion on this /g/, what would you do in my position? Keep it as an upgrade? Or not put any effort in and pass?
It'll be nice to play bf4 at my mates place without needing to drag along a desktop pc, kek.
Another thought is, if I fix it, how stupid would it be to upgrade to sli 680m, or cfx 7970m and get rid of my desktop? Performance should be plenty for me with those specs.
HD6900 crossfire won't work on newer games, will it?

>8 GB ram for gaming
You should have chosen for a 16 GB machine

Ram is upgradable, and ram is usually the cheapest upgrade, that's not an issue.

I'm indecisive as fuck, help.
I use multiple abandoned Alienware laptops not because ther are good or bad but because i can and i say that a fresh os install with all the oem drivers, not dell's/Alienware's has been a pleasant issue free treat on my multiboot config of debian, windows 7 and 10 using grub2 to select the os, tbis machine in particular is a member 8x with two 680m's in sli and an i72960xm and 16 gigs of ram with a 512 gig ssd split into 4 partitions minus 10% for trim plus two unraided 1 terabyte drives that the windows os havecaccess to for my multimedia/ video editing and games. The only real issue i have with it is that the previous owner tried to measure somthing on the screen with a ruler and scratched it, thankfully it has a cover over the lcd panel. Other than that it makes a nice space heater

Sorry that should be m18x r2 not member 8x

The 69xx will WORK on the newer games, what I doubt is the crossfire compatibility of BF4 and if AMD still has cf profile for this game.
And I think MXM 7970s must cost a lot more than what it's worth.
>>55699830
Op here. Bf4 is compatible, my hd5770 crossfire works great for bf4 on my desktop.
>>55699803
Yeah this one is the m18x too.
Gpu can be upgraded to either nvidia out amd, yeah?
Will a HD7970m be good with dx12 like the desktop 7970?
>>55699880
yeah, you can replace the GPU's this is one of three replacement cards for one of my m17x's that will also fit in the m18xr2 i use, it is a little bit of a futz to replace the cards as you have to almost strip it down to the chassis and motherboard in order to get to the cards aswell as make damn sure you apply the thermal grease to the heatpipes because it takes me now just under an hour to tear it apart to that level make a quick change and put it back together, when i was not confident it originally took me over 3 hours especially if it has never been cracked open before as it is mostly made of metal not plastic.

> minus 10% for trim
what? that's not how trim works
>2x SSD raid 0
>>55700176
also sorry i lied.
the i7 2960xm is in the m17xr3 this m18x r2 has the i7 3940xm
>>55700218
that is 10% unallocated space for trim, as i dont want it trimming into other partitions, especially into debian where i do actual work
