What does /g/ think of the 7990 for use today? I do game, but I also wanted to make a pc with older parts for fun and see how much power I can squeeze out of it.

my 7950 runs like a champ. 79xx series is one of the best AMD ever put out.

>Minimum 1000W PSU
>Four 8pin PCIe power cables
Man go for it!
>>55689880
but it only takes 2 8pin...its right there on OPs image.

Just replaced my 7950,felt bretty sad desu. If I had stayed on 1080p I would have kept it for another year.

The 7900 series still runs decently because AMD rebadged and sold almost the same chip up until this year, and support will probably continue for the immediate future because they're not moving to GCN 2.0 until consoles use it.

I was thinking of the Devil 13. My mistake
Can anyone say why they moved away from a reference design as pictured to the pos blower cooler?
295 master race here.
>>55690184
Because no one else was willing to make multi GPU cards except for AMD until the devil13.
My hd5970 was a blower too.
>>55690184
Because any OEM can stick the shitty blower fan into almost any configuration and it will never overheat the other shitty components.

I don't think you know how GCN works but ok.
>>55689812
If you MOD the card, you can have both a 7970 and the equivalent FirePro chip on the same board. Crossfire for GCN 1.0 isn't great.

Devil 13 is an entirely different beast vs the stock 7990 and is built for overclocking, which is why there's 4 8-pins on it.

Probably gonna sell mine soon, tired of dealing with crossfire issues
