Are there even any good ISPs in america?
>>
>>55686687
There is basically Comcast and time Warner (who Comcast has been trying to buy for 5 years but it got blocked by the gubment).

Comcast is everywhere in the US except NYC and LA.

time Warner runs those two places.

There are some small ones but they usually can't compete in speed or anything else.

Data caps are horse shit. It doesn't cost them what they charge you for the data - it's purely greed that they charge you for going over some bullshit arbitrary number. Even the GAO determined that data caps don't do fucking shit for actually managing a network - and even if they did - static caps for everyone is a shit way to do it.

FYI, Comcast is actually one of the few national or local ISPs that do data caps - it is not the norm.

>Comcast did nothing wrong
Comcast may be the worst ISP in the USA.

http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/09/comcast-customers-filed-2226-complaints-in-3-months-fcc-records-show/
>Comcast customers filed more than 2,000 complaints against the company from April to June, according to documents released by the Federal Communications Commission.

http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/11/dont-say-data-cap-highlights-from-a-comcast-customer-service-script/
>With Comcast expanding its data caps to more cities, call center employees are likely being hammered with questions from disgruntled customers.

>Thanks to a leak of an internal customer service script, we know exactly what reps are supposed to tell them. For starters, Comcast employees are not supposed to use the phrase "data cap" to describe the 300GB monthly limit, since customers are allowed to use more than that as long as they pay extra. They're also supposed to tell customers the limits are about fairness, not about preventing network congestion.

http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/05/isps-and-pay-tv-lowest-rated-industries-with-comcast-worst-in-sector/
>An annual customer experience survey of 10,000 US consumers has rated broadband service and pay-TV as the least-liked industries, with Comcast being the lowest-rated company among the Internet and TV providers.

I not going to "fork over the cash" just to get decent customer service.
>>
>>55688331
No they don't. I'm in Tennessee and Comcast has released their own fiber in select cities here and they beat that.

http://corporate.comcast.com/news-information/news-feed/comcast-begins-rollout-of-residential-2-gig-service-in-nashville-metro-area

Comcast has the ability to beat every company, they don't raise their speeds until local competitors give them a reason to.
>>
>>55688331
EPB is owned by the city though. That's socialism. Socialism! It's hurting Comcast's profits, and that's bad!

>>

Just like any other ISP but you have to pay extra for unlimited with them.
>Free xfinity wifi hotspots everywhere
This has never been a selling point.
>They don't give a fuck if you download torrent after torrent over a Seedbox/VPN, as long as you pay your bills for their data pipe
They give a fuck more than most. Having to pay to pirate due to your cuck of an ISP is retarded.

Frontier is where it's at.
>>
>>55688571

Why? None of those white areas are serviced by Comcast. There are more than 2 cable ISP's.
>>
>>55688593
No, no one can compete because big companies tend to own the lines, refuse to share, and cities refuse to let the startups run new lines.
>>
>>55686472
You are barking nowhere near the correct tree.
>>
>>55688435
>Comcast has the ability to beat every company, they don't raise their speeds until local competitors give them a reason to.
Just one of many reasons Comcunt needs to be broken up.
>>
http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/05/cable-lobby-group-broadband-competition-is-bad-for-customers/
>A cable lobby group that represents more than 900 small and medium-size providers is angry that Charter Communications will be competing against other cable companies.

>Cable providers usually avoid each other's territory, choosing not to "overbuild" in cities and towns where other cable networks already exist. But Charter agreed to bring some competition to the cable market in exchange for the Federal Communications Commission's approval of its purchase of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. Specifically, Charter will deploy high-speed broadband to at least 2 million residential and small business locations, of which at least 1 million must be in areas served by at least one other provider.

>think throttling is perfectly ok
>send broken modems to customers then make us pay for them
>maximum speeds i have ever gotten from a comcast link up was 5mbs with an ethernet cable
Fuck Comcast
>>
>>55689212
what the hell do they sue them for? infringing on their monopoly territory?
>>
>>55689212
Comcast also paid state lawmakers to pass laws making municipal broadband illegal in seven states (Alabama, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, and Virginia).
>>
>>55689280
wut

why does shit never end up in the news
>>
>>55689291
Because they own the news.
>>
>>55685914
Same. Been torrenting for 8 years without any problems and then got an email in June alleging wrongdoing.
>>
>>55689297
yep. Comcast owns MSNBC and NBC news.
>b-but i thought the evil fox news was the ones behind this shit

LOL nope.
>>
>>55689291
Because Comcast owns the cable networks and even the channels that aren't owned by Comcast are afraid to start shit with Comcast because channels have to negotiate subscription rate per cable subscriber with cable providers every few years (channels get paid like 0.X cents per subscriber per month who has package that has that channel in addition to selling advertising spots).
>>
>>55689309
private trackers never give me problems, and I limit public tracker copyright torrents to no more than 3 a month. no DMCA yet
>>
>>55686687
Charter is supposed to be great, good speeds for cheap. Only problem is they only offer service where the Comcast jews don't.
>>
>>55687081
I live in Chicago. I don't think we have Google Fiber here.
>>
>>55689375
>single phone/cable franchise per market

This is the problem.

The reason S. Korea is fast broadband is not because of government subsidies or population density, but because the cities own the last mile connection to the homes.

Most homes have three or more choice of broadband ISPs (they're not "fake" competitors just reselling main telco/cableco's service) because ISPs don't own the last mile.

comcast support is horrendous. the 30+ year old cable run to our house was becoming unreliable and had already been patched a couple times. for months we'd call them about our degrading internet/tv performance and they'd refuse to do anything but redo the patching. it got so bad that our tv and internet would be out half the day every day. they refused to do anything about it because everything would "be fine" when their service tech showed up. they'd take a reading and leave. we'd tell them over and over again the line to our house was 30+ years old and begged them to run us a new line and they would never even accept that there was a problem

comcast support is fucking horrendous. they absolutely will not do anything to help you
