I'm about to pull my fucking face off /g/, please Christ tell me one of you can help me.
I got some piece of shit phone from AliExpress. It came with ten shitloads of preinstalled malware. I need to root the phone to remove them. I need to unlock the bootloader to root it. And therein lies the problem.
I've my phone in fastboot mode, or download mode as it's called now. And every variation of the command to unlock the bootloader is met with either a <waiting for device> or a [...], at which it will stay until I close the window.
I also tried the method via the HTC Dev site, where you get an unlock token and have them send you some manner of unlocking file. I got the token. And when I try to use it, I can "Error: 152. Token info not complete." spat back at me.
I've USB Debugging enabled, my phone doesn't have an option for OEM Unlock. I've a HTC One E9+
This is the result of the first command I tried. The window doesn't freeze, but nothing happens.

And this is the result of the second command I try.
>fastboot flashing unlock
You can see the only result is three dots, and a frozen command window.

It's genuinely unusable. I've adverts popping on my homescreen, it'll vibrate when new ads pop up in the middle of the night, it'll autoplay adverts with audio at any point in the day, regardless of whether it's on silent or not.
Were it working as intended it'd be a tank of a phone, but unfortunately I got one right off the assembly line of Rice Goblin Inc. in Beijing.
Can OPs still bump their own thread?
