These people truly are brain damaged.

Thank you very much for your insight. I guess this proves iGPUs are the best because they're the cheapest.

but it doesnt cost more?

Now for the comparison everyone really wanted to see, how would the GeForce GTX 1060 perform against the AMD Radeon RX 480? We have found that this highly depends on the game and API involved.

It is clear, crystal clear, that AMD Radeon RX 480 simply performs better under the new Vulkan API and some DX12 API in games so far. In DOOM the AMD Radeon RX 480 wiped the floor with the GeForce GTX 1060 running the Vulkan API. This is not to say GeForce GTX 1060 did not have an enjoyable gameplay experience, it surely did. We were able to play the game maxed out at 1080p and at "Ultra" settings at 1440p with the highest AA setting. This is nothing to laugh at, it's an amazing experience.
>same game DX12 performance is higher on Nvidia and AMD, just much higher on AMD

How do I recover from my loss of purchasing a GTX 1060 on day 1? I want an RX 480 now, its cheaper and future proof.

Performance-per-dollar is for overall games, yes. TPU used a ton of gameworks games and only one DX12 game (rise of the tombraider) with an older update that doesn't support async compute.

So what does this mean? I actually think the 1060 is a few percentage points ahead of the 480. 2-5% on average when including 25+ games. What I'm most upset about is the review sites being clearly bought-out by Nvidia. And 2-5% more performance and keeping my soul? I'd choose an AMD card every day.

Plus, I know my card will age better as opposed to gimped the minute a new architecture is rolled out.

Less than 10% more where I am senpai. And that is for an aftermarket solution, which isn't available for the rx480 yet.
>>
>>55669615
okay so realistically how many games run on DX12/Vulkan as default?
1?
2?

Pretty much everything runs either on 11 or 9 no matter how much you hate it, senpai
>>
>>55671108
oh yeah and tech demos don't count.
>>
>>55670971
>Pay more for electricity

What's it like being so poor that you can't afford an extra few dollars a month? I mean unless you're running your card at 100% load for weeks on end, you're bound to see at most, a $10 difference in monthly cost. If that considering most places in the US are a few pennies per kilowatt hour.

This is coming from a 980ti owner who thinks your reasons are just drooling idiot tier. The only plus I can see for the 1060 over the 480 is shadowplay. This is literally the only thing holding me back from going back to AMD.
>>
>>55671108
The thing is a lot of people are looking to the future. With Windows 10 becoming the leading OS for gaymes, DX12 will soon be the defacto standard for stuff. Just like DX11 currently is. And it's a well known fact that AMD cards age like fine wine. They're usually shit in the beginning but as drivers become more refined, they start curb stomping nvidia offerings with ease.

>>55671108
>okay so realistically how many games run on DX12/Vulkan as default?

>And it's a well known fact that AMD cards age like fine wine
So they're only really good after 40 years after release?
I dunno man, I personally don't really like AMD and their way of doing things.
I don't really consider myself a Nvidia fanboy, but I'd rather go green given the chance, as literally every AMD gpu I used was riddled with issues of sorts.
Granted, that was over the span of 10 years or so and things could change, but currently I'm very happy with my laptop and I don't really care about this whole thing.

>>55671180
Yes, I do Anon, thank you for being so considerate
What you might've missed is the fact that some games, as the one you keep mentioning all the time (new DOOM) can use multiple APIs to render with.
I'm simply asking how many titles out currently on the market force you to run with DX12/Vulkan when you first turn them on.
>>
>>55671243
>I'm simply asking how many titles out currently on the market force you to run with DX12/Vulkan when you first turn them on.
For the next few years, these will be only XBox games ported by MS (or for MS) to further promote W10. No game company is going to lose sales from people on W7 and W8.1 just to please already small AMD market.
>>
>>55671219

people looking to the future would never buy high-end shit that they know is going to be bargain-bin garbage by this time next year. The people buying the 1080 and 1070 are buying them for the now, not for the performance once a 1080 Ti drops and all of them rush out for 50% better performance....

Just saying, the 1080 Ti is going to be out in a couple months and it will be top dog for a while....

The Vega GPU's are going to both be far better than the 1070 and 1080's as well....

So really what is the point of getting a 1080 or 1070 right now? What's the point of getting any graphics card?

To play it right now....

But if you bought a 1080 for future-proofing, get your money back your in for a treat.
>>
>>55671243
>What you might've missed is the fact that some games, as the one you keep mentioning all the time (new DOOM) can use multiple APIs to render with.
You replied to my post but I never mentioned any games, including DOOM, so I have no idea what you're referring to. Sounds like strawmanning since I've only posted once in this thread.

>I'm simply asking how many titles out currently on the market force you to run with DX12/Vulkan when you first turn them on.
None, because that's moronic. How many games ont he market "force" you to run at 4k and Ultra settings when you first launch them? Fucking none, for the same reason: "default" is meant to be a catch all, lowest common denominator that will allow anyone to get into the settings menu without their babby computer crashing.
>>
>>55671390
>The Vega GPU's are going to both be far better than the 1070 and 1080's as well

Like how amdrones were shilling 480 will btfo 1080 and then went "b-but it wasn't meant to be high end?"
>>
>>55669534
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V54W4p1mCu4

He did a breakdown of GTX 1060 reviews. Basically same as RX480. Wins in DX11 with about 5% margin. Loses in DX12/Vulkan at about 15%.

Because there aren't many DX12 games, the value of the 15% difference is lower/same as 5% difference in lot more DX11 games.

But that will change as more DX12/Vulkan games are released. In short, its roughly same as RX480.

If aftermarket RX480 are better than reference RX480, it will close that DX11 gap with GTX 1060 and gain more on DX12/Vulkan.
>>
>>55671440

Nobody did this.
>>
>>55671390
>The Vega GPU's are going to both be far better than the 1070 and 1080's as well....
If AMD pretty much lost at price point where it was crushing its competition, what makes you think it will become the best in the price point where it was losing miserably for the last few years?
>>

Lets assume you run your gpu for 3 years this will be 350$ less than 480, so in just 3 years you can buy a 1260 from the money you saved, while also having a gpu now that performs similar to better.
>>
>>55671521
AMD doesn't need to be healthy weight. As long as they're competitive enough, they can pick their fights. The Polaris made its point at the $200 mark and $240 8GB version. This forced the GTX1060 aftermarkets to lower the price to $250 msrp level instead of the founder $300 level.

The same thing will happen with Zen and Intel. With Zen 4c8t being released around $200, Intel will be forced to restructure their CPU tiers. They will lower the price on their i7 4c8t and 6c12t to compete with Zen.

AMD doesn't need to beat Intel. Infact it simply needs to be within 5-10% of Intel and priced well and they will collect money.

Not him, but I genuinely think these people were trolling and hyping it for the fun. And they did bloody good job. /r/amd became the best source of comedy for at least a week after the release. Hell, some pro-AMD sites were "speculating" with information posted here.
>>
>>55671618
If engineering sample A0 revision Zen's r15 cinebench is of any indication, if AMD's proclaimed 40% better IPC than excavator, then it should be roughly around i7 4790K IPC. Thats with 3Ghz version. If they can put that thing on 3.5Ghz at release, it would be a direct competition.

By a very small low single digit percentage in DX11, against reference models. In DX12/Vulkan the card loses 10-15% performance to the 480.

How is that better?
>>
>>55669581
the 4gb rx complies with future DX12/vulkan standards and costs $100 less and is perfect for 1080p

this and the even cheaper 470 coming makes the 1060 a very bad buy

hopefully green team will come out swinging next year with the HBM2 rollout.
