Hey there, /g/.
I'm deciding between the q9400 and a q9650. I've got an older dell laying around that I want to install at my gf's apartment for when I'm there for long chunks at a time. It has a shitty dual core in it and I want to throw in either the q9400 or q9650.
It will be used for general school tasks, media machine, and video editing. Not gonna game on it. I want to know whether the extra $30+ is worth it for the q9650 in your opinion. Don't wanna fall for any memes now, right /g/?

I had the same idea. Then I took a real good look at my 8 year old dell mobo, and found multiple bulging caps. Take a real good look at your equipment, including the power supply before you shell out any more dough.
Anyway, the 9650 is about 16-20% faster.

That's a good point actually, I had not bothered to take a look at it. Her apartment is right next to the ocean, do you think that the moisture in the air might have an effect on it too? The computer is currently there and I won't be able to check on it until later next month.

It's a modded Xeon cpu from 2007, it runs better than most i3's lol
