Nearly all major public trackers now officially comply with DMCA

How does it feel to know that public torrents are on the verge of dying?

When TPB finally accepts DMCA rules in order to stop getting taken down, it's over.

How does this make you feel? Why aren't you taking the proper measures to avoid being left in the dust when public torrents finally become a thing of the past?

>>

>How does it feel to know that public torrents are on the verge of dying?
It feels slightly less convenient than before.
>When TPB finally accepts DMCA rules in order to stop getting taken down, it's over.
That's a little over-the-top.
>How does this make you feel?
Inconvenienced, at most.
>Why aren't you taking the proper measures to avoid being left in the dust when public torrents finally become a thing of the past?
Because I just use torrents to conveniently get media and software for free. Spending money isn't a HUGE deal, and it's actually the right thing to do. Also because there will always be some method of piracy out there.

Also, the OP is obviously referring to PIRATED CONTENT, which is obviously ILLEGAL. I don't want to be a piracy-activist whose goal is more-or-less "stealing shit from people, because I'm entitled and I want it"
>>

WCD requires you to take an interview that tests if you know anything about encoding/audio shit.

You can forget joining trackers with BTN and PTP, they're closed/incredibly hard to get into.
>>
>websites have to obey they law
who'da thunk it
>>
>>55651259
It's not law though.
>>
>>55651230
Not everyone does this.
>>55651224
Not really. WCD has an interview system, and it's currently the easiest way to get in (speaking from personal experience). Unless you're some kind of retard, then it's difficult.
That's why you should hit the books if you're going to join a private tracker.

/r/trackers is good as a resource and /ptg/ for circlejerk and info that is not public.

No. Seedboxes/VPS are a nice way to gain easier buffer, but aren't essential for private trackers.

The second one is just a shitty conspiracy without any proof. In fact, you are far more vulnurable to DCMA letters by torrenting on public trackers because copyright trolls have access to them.
>>
>>55651230
I'd rather pay to pirate than buy anything with DRM.

I understand that private trackers have better seeded torrents and wider variety. However it does not seem to be worth it due to having to do a secret club initiation which isn't too bad, but then you have to ratiocuck constantly or pay for seedbox. And for what? Weebshit I can get off nyaa.se , general use kat/tpb, skidrow/reloaded for games. I've been part of private trackers and all they are worth is showing how inner circle you are. The only fucking case where it's justified is when you are a very heavy user.

If you try to download a torrent trackerless, the probability that you encounter a peer, even with DHT, is proportional to the size of the swarm. With a swarm size in the single digits, that's 0. Nevermind the fact that there are many torrents with effectively the same content at effectively the same quality level which further splits the potential swarm.

This isn't dumb, really. For example, Netflix has 40% of the content it had 4 years ago because studios are reverting to form and pulling back their catalogs because Netflix has been creating its own content for the past several years. You can't simply pay to get the content you want legally, so paying for torrenting would logically be a better choice (if the choice were binary).

I didn't say it wasn't. It's also a dead-end, like all "easy tier shit" that /ptg/ recommends as stepping stones to join the supposedly better tier trackers. You have to hustle a bunch of fake uploads to get power user status to join that next tier of sites.

/ptg/ is all autistry. Fuck off back to your containment thread.
>>

How much info does WCD have on you or is it a relatively anonymous? I just worry about letters sent if the site goes tits up

I know all I know about encoding from /g/ and wikipedia, Nyquist, bit depth, psychoacoustic models, transparency, how to root out a fake FLAC.

Whats the equivalent for movies and TV? I've lurked in the h264/h265/AVC threads here, as well as well /a/ tripfags were encoding the Eva blurays

Riiight.

Never mind that I have 4TB of movies that I seed 15GB of every day. Never mind my ratios--which beats yours, btw. Nope, what matters is whether I have used mkvtools to split apart someone else's upload so I can yoink the Albanian language track and merge it with yet another upload to make a third upload with the same fucking content, that I now remux into MP4. Yep, that's giving back to the community.

Bluray rips with a mix of BD remuxes. rutracker has damn good quality and the Russkies seed well.

My point was that ratios don't matter for consideration when joining trackers. Even the /ptg/ guides mention this. However, anyone who's ever torrented knows that whether content is seeded is the only real concern a tracker should have. Dead torrents suck.

Here's how private trackers work: they only invite other autists who of course already have all the weaboo shit they'll ever need and only join trackers so they can brag about it on /ptg/. As no one ever downloads anything, you can't actually seed anything and your ratio never increases. To get around this laughably ignorant state of affairs, they award points for offering content to the tracker regardless of whether anyone ever ownloads your dusty bits. This seems like a better system to these autists than just letting people with good ratios join because the point of their private trackers is to form an exclusive club of weird basement folk who value memberships in bit-hoarding sites.

pretty neutral. Even in this doomsday scenario we have newer tech that's not really being used to it's fullest. ipfs, zeronet, i2p, tribler, etc etc are all fully capable of replacing centralized surface web torrent indexes.

AB is great but the moderation staff is trash.
>>
>>55651621
I'd rather pay for something and break the DRM myself.

Name one tracker with respectable staff. You can't.

torrents were great but why haven't people adequately addressed the public IP exposure and nasty letters problem.

Everyone needs to get on i2p immediately and start using it for torrents. It completely solves the issue of snooping.

what's the hold up? piratebay, kat etc. should all be on there.

but you're signaling that you *want* DRM infested stuff.
i buy plenty of media, e.g. CDs, but nothing that has DRMs

None of them, that still doesn't mean AB's isn't trash.

Torrenting over i2p or Tor ruins it for everyone else.

This is why there are VPNs. Even a paid VPN for $5-10 a month is less than a netflix subscription and makes you totally immune to mass DMCA letter sending.

it's true that torrenting fucks up tor, but i2p is designed for torrents!

not the guy you replied to

I had private tracker accounts on WhatCD, PTP, IPT, Gazelle Games, Tehconnection. black cat games, that other game tracker that went down in 2012(?) that I can't remember.

I gave up on all of them. Honestly private trackers are pretty useless except maybe for some extremely obscure stuff.

I've had guys here on /g/ challenge me to find stuff they got on private trackers. I've found them all pretty easily. We're not talking "Stadium Arcadium rare Japanese release in FLAC with whatever bonus track" or some nonesense. We're talking "National Film Board of Canada music from the 40's-60's" I found the exact file the guy claimed he could only get on what, on some DDL site after maybe 5 minutes tops of searching. If you think you need private trackers because you can't find your shit elsewhere, you're probably just bad at looking.

But don't bother bitching at me, I'm not adamantly against the existence of private trackers. They do have their merits in ensuring that torrents never die, and in making dozens of copies in various formats/quality levels. I just know that they aren't some last bastion of warez, they aren't a higher standard than anywhere else, and for people who's taste in music doesn't include "FLAC discography of Monster Truck", it's just a time and money sink for essentially the same product.
