Reposting once again:

VLC supposedly has metadata-editing features, right?

If I open a file and change some of them, a "save metadata" button will appear and the metadata will be saved when I close the window (as shown by the new title displayed as the file title), but when I close VLC and reopen it, the file still has the old metadata.

Does VLC only change the metadata for that specific session, or it should change it on the file itself (and somehow it's not working for me)?

Are there any video capture devices for consoles (specifically for 7th gen, but I don't care if it works for 8th gen too) that does processing/encoding on the footage on the capture hardware itself rather then via a PC it's hooked up into, or otherwise can just stream the video from the console directly to twitch (which I could then rip and download) without much processing at all?

I need to record something, but the only computer I have with me at the time is a very old shitty laptop that can't handle video editing.

I'm trying to setup the following thing as a lab setup:

Win8 64 bit computer
Install ESXi VM on that device
Install VCSA on that ESXi

This issue I have now is that VCSA is 64bit, and you can't virtualize 64bit 2 layers deep.

Is there a way to get around this?

iOS is getting RAW photo support in iOS 10, Lightroom Mobile already supports it and the color accuracy and screen is going to be way better than on my old laptop since the iPad has an IPS screen. iPads are definitely good enough for photo editing but I'm not going to be able to run DAWs or anything like that on it, and I don't plan to either since that's what I use my desktop for.

I'm not going to get rid of my laptop and I'll probably pick up a Dell XPS 13 when my budget allows for it anyways so I can use Ableton with all my plugins on it, it's just more convenient to have a tablet if you're only going to read ebooks, watch movies and browse the internet.

Can I power a raspberry pi 3 from my laptops usb port?
I won't be using wifi or BT, and I'm mostly only going to be using it to host a web server, and maybe test some other things.

also does anyone know if I unplug the power to a dock for my thinkpad if it turns off the USB ports? or will the USB ports still work without power from the wall going into the dock?

I don't have it yet, but I'll be ordering one soon probably.
actually now that I think about it, my x201 tablet that I got a while ago had a dock. It was the type that you'd stick on the bottom and keep it there if you wanted expanded io.
But that dock worked just fine on battery, so I'll assume that the more desk oriented docks will be the same.

Now if only my power would quit going out so often so I don't have to buy 3 or 4 UPSes to power all my devices.

How do I upgrade the android version of my Xiaomi Redmi HM 1SW to 4.4?

if the version of MIUI brings it you get it
if cianogenmod was made for your phone you can use that
>>

>if the version of MIUI brings it you get it
Do you mean that if I press "Check for updates" and it says that I'm running the latest version then MIUI didn't bring it?

>if cianogenmod was made for your phone you can use that
Is that a different OS built on Android? Will it come with a new layer of bugs and do I have to reinstall apps/theming stuff? I just wanna play Pokemon go
>>

>>
>>55619886
I guess he wanted to say, that if the update check doesn't tell you there's one available, then there's nothing you can do unless you install a different ROM like cyanogenmod.
and yes, you'd have to reinstall everything.
MIUI is a special kind of ROM already, not pure android.
>>
>>55619886
damn faggot I actually googled for you

so first switch recovery mode from current to TWRP
https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomiredmi1s.html
google out what is TWRP, what it does and how to do the flashing

then you can put any rom anywhere on the device and update your system to whatever you like

like here android 5, assuming it fits your phone

That sucks. Why is it so slow to update the Android version? I'm still at 4.3 and people have had 6.0 since 2015. By the time MIUI gets to 4.4 I'll be the only one on the Pokemon server

Look up for disassembly videos on youtube or service manuals for your laptop model. Modern laptops have fancy profiled parts which can be easily damaged if you don't know how they look like before the dissasembly. If you go in blind you are sure to break e.g. some of those fucking plastic latches (which I hate btw; what a horrible way to fasten parts together).
You probably know about it, but put a MINIMAL amount of paste on the CPU (paste just adds to the thermal resistance, it's there to just cover the irregularities of the surfaces)
It might be just my autism, but when I unscrew each layer I draw a "map" on a sheet of paper of where should each screw go. That way I accidentally don't put a screw on a wrong layer which is a pain to redo.
Also, you might clean your fan and put some lubricant on it when you're at it.

Historically, the /sqt/ has been the "stupid questions thread", wherein "stupid questions" were those that you didn't want to bother other Anons having technical knowledge with because they'd get tired due to those questions being vastly below their competence ("how do I take a screenshot?"), because they are easily searchable, or because they show up so often.
However, in recent years, with the addition of the catalogue and its spreading of search capabilities to regular users, the term "/sqt/" and its implications have gained in popularity, becoming an institution.

Teleologically and systematically, the /sqt/ is a thread focused on being a bundling place for questions that don't deserve their own thread: small questions that are fast to answer and don't offer much meat for discussion. It, in conjunction with the wiki, also serves to purify other threads of questions that show up a lot.

In terms of popularity, I can only guess, but I believe that the order of popularity is the following:
Stupid Questions Thread > /sqt/ > Small Questions Thread

I'd say that all three uses are valid, but "Small Questions Thread" sounds fucking stupid to me, who is used to "Stupid Questions Thread", and "Stupid Questions Thread" should be preferred to both the "small" and "/sqt/" variants, because that's the traditional name and makes enough sense.
"Sexy questions thread" sounds kinda hot, though.

Can I use TracFone as my carrier with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3?
>>
>>55622063
yes, it will format the drive
the quickest & simplest solution would be to save the current data on the drive to another drive or flash drive or something & just let windows do its thing
otherwise youll have to shrink the current drive & leave a large amount of unallocated space & allow windows installation to format that unallocated space
which you will then end up with two "drives" but will actually be one drive partitioned into two
one partition consisting of the old data & old file system & the other partition consisting of your windows install & new file system

no, what you're wanting can't be done, you cant make windows installation just install on an already formatted drive that has some files without windows wiping/formatting it all first
the only thing you can do is shrink it & create unallocated space & let windows install & format that

I wanna buy a new Xiaomi. Are my options just Redmi 3 and Redmi Note 3? How do I pick?
>>
>>55622281
I'll clarify my position:
I'm looking to get a bigger SSD tommorow. I'm planing to get a retail copy of windows so I'm not bogged down with stupid OEM hardware limitations.
I tried reformatting the disk (current secondary drive) I plan to use as my new OS drive. I'm only planning on having two drives at any one time and will get rid of the previous drive.
When I tried to reformat the secondary drive, I got a warning telling me I can force a reformat of the drive but it may cause problems. It does not have windows installed, just has some steam files and whatever.
So based on this information, if it worth trying to reformat that disk or will a clean install on it just erase the steam files and not cause any partition issues?

1TB 5400 vs 2TB 7200

Is 2TB too much? Heard they're way less reliable

Almost every hdd has a lot of 1star reviews so I'm wary of failures
>>
>>55622303
>>/spg/ might be more fitting

differences:
>redmi 3 pro prime
smaller screen 5" instead of 5.5"
smaller resolution 720p instead of 1080p
worse wifi, only n not ac
no backlight light on the home row buttons
bit worse camera
less support for redmi3 because note 3 is far more popular
slightly worse SoC snapdragon

what it has going for it:
it has same battery, but smaller screen, this gives great boost to already great battery life
its smaller, might be plus for you
its cheaper

I got redmi3 because battery life and size
I would probably even go for for 4" phone
>>
>>55622373
Reliability depends on the specific production run more than anything
HDD reviews are always slanted to the negative because people who get working drives generally don't write reviews.
>>
>>55622349
there wont be any issues, theres no reason to do anything to it except pick during windows install & let it do everything for you, no prior steps need to be taken

doing a rollback on the drivers?
reconnecting/fiddling with the cables or trying a different socket?
testing the speakers or headphones on another device to make sure they aren't malfunctioning
run the normal diagnostics to see if it reports any sort of malfunction
try different connecting cables or make sure there is no small cuts or other damage on the line

Is M$ refusing to activate windows 7 or 8.1 anymore?

I tried installing both with keys I've used before in the past and none of them are working. I actually called them to verify my keys were the correct versions and they confirmed they were. They wanted remote access to my computer but fuck that shit, I'll just use daz if it won't activate the right way after I install updates.

Don't use Daz, just use the latest Microsoft Toolkit, as it is a flawless tool.

It doesn't just "fix" your install, it literally makes it genuine in such a way that it is indistinguishable from legit users who paid for windows. its amazing that they have managed to make the tool so perfect

if you use Daz for example, youll have a harder time upgrading to win 10, but the latest MTK wont have such issues, its fucking flawless

be sure to get it officially from mydigitallife forum, not some random torrent

dont listen to ms toolkit fag

if win7, use Daz, it never got detected by antivirus, its always working (unless GPT partition windows)
but if win8/10, you will need crapy KMS activation tool like MS toolkit or KMSpico, both are fine, but they will run on every start and they are detected by serveral AVs

daz was so elegant and clean...
>>
>>55622527
Newegg is not a good place, Amazon is superior, especially if you're using partspicker website
anyway, unless it literally states its sold as a collection, it may or may not all come together
it sucks, but thats just what happens
with amazon & prime, you have a better chance of getting everything the same day

heh, you might want to go check your scheduler
KMS activation works for 3 months, it needs reactivation
both MS toolkit and kmspico run on everyboot/login
MStoolkit is probably worst of the so far mentioned tools, kmspico knows at least how to convert retail to VL and then activate

daz loader worked complelely differnt system, it had hooks before system start to pretend for the windows that the info from bios belonged to some OEM manufacturer
KMS activators are just pretending that volume license servers activated the system

It's easy to use and works properly out of the box therefore it's shit. /s

Ubuntu is great - it has by far the best installer of any distro, Unity just works and has a good keyboard shortcut configuration by default. The latest LTS version has the Amazon search turned off by default, so no worries there.

Only reason I would recommend a DE other than Unity is if you're running 1080p or a shitty resolution like that - you might not be willing to dedicate the screen space to the unity launcher in that case.

>>55622935
and all im saying, nigger, is that Daz was great for Win7, but thats ALL & now even on Win7, to some degree, its detected, because they now can block you from upgrading to Win10 from Win7 if you used Daz, however you CAN upgrade if you used MTK

I get what you're saying but
1: I don't think you've used the latest version, I think you're basing your opinions on a much older version
2: I think you're mixing up alot of your opinions with KMSPico, which is shit

MTK is currently the most elegant solution that works for Win7/Win8/Win10 (even enterprise) and is 100% fully undetected

Regardless of what is or inst scheduled at each boot, the point is its stil la 1-click & done solution, like Daz in that regard

Im not going to argue with you about it further, I know Daz is great, but its time has long since past & to recommend it still is not very good

Ostensibly, C++ is a superset of C (so you can program C in C++ if you want). C++ has additional abstractions which make some things arguably easier (such as managing large code bases and allowing programming teams to work more easily with one another).

what do windows optional updates consist of
I have 12 of them, are they all trash or could one of them possibly be something relevant
>>
>>55623472
Sometimes they add extra cosmetic features
Sometimes they add extra options
But sometimes they are trash or add things youll never use
To be honest though, the updates marked important or security updates & such, half of those are also "trash" in that they are super obscure, minor fixes, that there is a 90% chance you won't benefit from them

At least with optional updates, you actually have a chance of getting neat new features or improvements to the various user interfaces (even if it is just cosmetic in nature)

So I don't ignore optional updates, but I do read them if i have time to see what is & isn't good
Theres always a chance an optional update is a data mining/collecting piece of shit that you don't want to touch with a ten foot pole

Now it's properly attached again though but I feel it's a bit hotter than I remember it still. Did the paste thing get ruined by this? I'm still using the several year old pre-applied stuff.
