We've hit a point where we can keep making the number go higher but it's not as beneficial to do it. 1280x720 is more than enough on a phone of all devices. Anything more is just a waste. Hell, my phone's screen is 720x720 and I wouldn't change it if I had the chance.

1080p is the absoulte max for 5" and below. Bigger screns: 1440p. Anything higher than that for a phone (assuming you don't have a 6" abomination) is pointless, your eye literally cannot tell the difference unless you stare 5 inches away from the screen like a retard.
