Yes, me.
But I have a huge test that I'm studying for so I don't have time to type up a guide.

The former has a more comfy bracelet
You could also try to hunt down a Seiko x WIRED MGS5 watch, but have fun finding one.

>that the thing can adjust itself automatically, 6 fucking times a day, or on demand.
>How could you possibly think this is a gimmick?
Actually syncing more than once a day is a fucking gimmick.
Once every day is plenty, more than that is just an excuse to swindle more shekels out of autists.

recommend me non-meme watch for 100$
>>
>>55534279

I just don't, I'd rather wear something a bit more subtle, it's not as ugly as I made it out to be but for a while it was the meme of the week and it just wasn't up to the hype.
>>
>>55536261
most of the memes in that price range are memes for a reason. Also the thing about meme watches is that you don't really see them in the wild very much, just on watch threads and watch forums
>>
>>55536538
what is base non-meme watch price then? 500?
>>
>>55536189
as stupid as this might sound I feel like a watch should a self contained portable clock and not be assisted by external signals.

I'd still buy and wear one as a tool but there's something lost with a radio controlled watch.
>>
>>55536550
I mean that rule is generally true at most price ranges, depending on what you consider to be memes.

at 500$ you can pick an obscure microbrand with a miyota 9015 or ETA 2824 and it will probably be good and not overly common on /wt/

but you still have to deal with meme movements.

basically I am saying you can't really write something off for being a "meme", because just about everything is a meme these days.

Start with a little more specific criteria for what you want out of a watch, maybe specific types, features or brands that you want excluded.
>>
>>55536566
Every personal timepiece is adjusted to a more accurate clock, it has been like this since the middle ages. A radio watch just does the syncing for you.
>>
>>55536664
this is true but I think for the same reason I like mechanical and automatic watches, I dislike radio watches for being less "organic" for lack of a better word.

I realize it's irrational, I don't have any real beef against them.

I would have your same qualms with regard to mechanical and HAQ watches, but for digitals, and feature-packed watches, it doesn't bother me.
>>

There are many, many ways of making a chronograph look like shit, Fossil seem to have ticked every fucking box in this regard.

Also:

Does anyone have experience with wear and tear on automatic watches from handwinding? I've read conflicting reports (ranging from "wind to your hearts content as long as the watch is regularly serviced and lubed" to "it'll wear out the winding mechanism or at the very least you screw-in crown threads and gasket". My collection has reached 5 watches now and I only have one winder. I do wear each watch at least once a week. Thinking of rotating the ETA 3-handers/gmt watches on the winder for 12 hours each on the fastest setting, and handwinding the 7750 chronos every other day (since i hear they're more robust).

Vintage grand seikos are pretty great assuming they are in good working order mechanically. The pillow case model is a 6145-8020. There are some other models with faceted crystals that match the case lines like the 6146-8050. There are some funky 56GS models as well. These links might help

As for King Seiko Vanacs, they come in 52xx and 56xx movements. The 56xx seiko caliber is really good as the many king seiko and lord-matic owners in the thread can vouch for.

Unless you've got a moonphase or annual/perpetual calendar I think watch winders are a waste of money. You could have put the money you spent on it towards another watch. Also as long as it isn't for really long stretches of time it really doesn't hurt to just leave your watches dormant. I'm not sure about the hand winding thing either. I just do it a little to start up the watch, not every day or anything.

Has anyone had experience with a Timex Weekender and water?

Also, do you guys just stick your nylon straps in the washer with your clothes or do you brush them with soap and water?
>>
>>55561078
I keep them running because 1) I do wear them at least weekly, so I'll need to reset/handwind each at least once a week i don't have a winder. That's 5+ times a week for 5 watches which is a pain in the ass. 2)Winders aren't that expensive, my Chiyoda one was ~$75, which is like 2 leather straps (and i already have a shit ton of those). A 2 watch one from the same brand is only ~$10 more. 3) I log all my watches on watchcheck to monitor weekly timekeeping performance, so if they run down i have to start over (yeah #3 is just autism really).

spend $150 on a PAG240. It's the best value in ABC watches by far.

https://www.amazon.com/Casio-PAG240-1CR-Pathfinder-Triple-Multi-Function/dp/B003URP7NK?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B003URP7NK&linkCode=as2&linkId=52L4LQ64GE4SIMVT&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=switctrave-20

atomic time-keeping is a meme. don't buy into it. if you know where you are in the world, you just use the fucking world time in the watch and pick it yourself. not that hard and saves power/makes the watch much less expensive

6 months of power without sunlight

100m water resistance

low temp. resistance

thermometer, altimeter, compass,

everything that matters and it's not stupidly expensive.

you can buy something like this instead and it has atomic timekeeping, 100m WR, a better screen supposedly, and looks a bit more reserved. notice how it costs over fucking twice as much, though for a whole lot of nothing.

https://www.amazon.com/Casio-PAW2000-1CR-Pathfinder-Digital-Watch/dp/B002OSY3WM?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002OSY3WM&linkCode=as2&linkId=PO3JEJ7F7U5XCDD2&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl&tag=switctrave-20

fucking trust me, just buy the PAG240. they make the titanium banded one for like $200 if you really give a shit about that.

How to Tell What the Date Is Without a Complicated Watch or Phone

1. Memorize what day the month started on.
2. Given this day, consider its multiples: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th.
3. Decide the appropriate week range and count forward or backward to reach today.

Example:

1. July started on a Friday
2. I know today, Wednesday, is probably not after Friday the 15th because I just had an appointment for the 11th (or something).
3. Friday the 15th minus 2 days = Wednesday the 13th.

Things requires knowing what day it is and having a general idea of how far into the month it is, but that shouldn't be a problem unless you do absolutely nothing.

Found this in a thrift store with a Speidel flex stainless steel band. Went swimming with it, as it says it's water-resistant for 330 feet, and it's still ticking a few days later. Paid $5 for it in a bag full of other jewelry.

Doesn't look amazing, but I like it. What do you anons think?

solar cells degrade and will need replaced in about the same amount of time as 3 normal battery cycles. guess which is more expensive to replace.

atomic timekeeping serves a purpose that most people doneed need, there is nothing really wrong with it

>>
>>55562860
It is as long as you don't get one which slips through their notoriously shit QC. Someone on leddit got one that leaked. Take it to your watchmaker for a pressure test just to be sure (usually quick and free if you have any kind of relationship with one).
>>
>>55563194
It's usually either by friction/spring (where you get use the reverse side of your spring bar tool tip and tap it out with a mallet) or by screw (where you in unscrew it with a jeweler's screwdriver). It's pretty obvious if you look between the segments.

This. Or Daluca. I bought a cheap wrist & style one that appeared almost as good as the my EULITs and Dalucas when delivered, but after less than 2 months of occasional wear (~2x a week), it's now a soft, limp noodle that i could barely push through the buckle and keepers. Reminded me of my dick when i was on Lexapro.

Is this a real story or some sort of hypothetical
>>
>>55562220
That's such a shitty fucking suggestion, especially when the PRW 2500 and 3500 are only 20 bucks more but have 200m WR, atomic syncing and in the case of the 3500 MUCH better sensors.
Both of them are compatible with NATO straps too, the PAG240 isn't; and the older pathfinder straps suck ass.
Please, if you're not up to date on things, don't make suggestions. Especially about digital watches.

That's just a dw5600 with a reversed display. Not a bad watch, but nowhere NEAR the gw5000 with it's superior movement and completely steel case.
