If I can actually install Arch Linux, is there any real reason to choose Ubuntu over it?

Not really. I hope you're not trying to imply that installing Arch is in any way difficult, though.

no. only if you don't mind installing an OS that comes already with 3k packages when you're able to chose what to install and have a comfy personal system.

Sure. I have to manage Linux systems at work. I don't want to come home and have to dick around with yet another Linux system. Arch Linux has zero benefits for me - it is literally a more time-consuming way for me to obtain the same result as installing Ubuntu.

If anything, it's a negative. If I try to run DataGrip on Arch and it doesn't work - I have to assume it's Arch that's the problem. Because JetBrains sure as hell aren't interested in supporting fringe distributions.

/mnt /dev/sda1
-pacstrap /mnt

I don't get whats so fucking hard about it

I would say stability but Ubuntu is fucking broken half the time.

But then again there isn't a huge reason to get it as well. The reason I stick with Arch is cutting edge, rolling release, and most of all, it has by far the easiest way to install packages of the distros I've used. I've tried going back to Fedora or Ubuntu but the sheer simplicity of pacman+the AUR just keeps me coming back.

Have you ever thought about what the reason could be behind your problem instead of the distro? A distro = kernel + userland + some userland settings. By your definition a minimal ubuntu installation could have the same problem

Sure. That thought is usually followed by "I'm not getting paid for this, I'm just going to use Ubuntu 16.04 which I already know works."

Frankly I'd rather buy a Mac or a copy of Windows than go around troubleshooting my own desktop.

So would you say that running a Linux system is a chore?

Yes, use sabayon!
