Because video editing is often bottlenecked by whatever codec you happen to be using at the time.

Take for example Cineform, which is completely CPU accelerated, that would benefit greatly from extra GPU horses, vs something like AVCHD which is CPU bound and would mean that only GPU accelerated tasks like color correction and effects would benefit from the speed.

Yeah but the 1080 suppose to beat this card as Nivida said but i guess not , another topic about the 1060. If the 1060 suppose to beat the 960 which is very underpowered now at days but it cost $50 USD more than the 480
But the 480 can best the 960 for a cheap price of $200 USD but the 480 can compete with the 970 so why buy a 1060 then if it can just best the 960 if i can go cheaper with the 480?

I really dont think you should if your only goal is raw power.

But if you're concerned with different technologies like CUDA that might be a reason to go Nvidia.

Unless you're a gamer you should usually pick a card based on the available technologies, and not its raw power.

Like, I pick AMD for its Double Precision Compute performance, but Nvidia is classically better with highly serialized tasks.

well to be fair the 980 ti does have more mature drivers for it than the 1080 does. 980 ti also has more cuda cores and a higher memory buss which could help it even if its a less efficient design over the 1080.
