Hey guys. I've heard a million times loop flow doesn't matter, but, never got a direct answer to it this way. I'm planning to basically do what the set up is here, for a watercooling loop.

The plan is to go: pump/res combo -> QDC ->2 GPU's in parallel -> QDC -> CPU -> 360mm radiator -> 360mm radiator -> pump/res

Would I see a cooling/performance benefit if I went 2 GPU's -> Radiator -> CPU -> radiator, instead? If so, would it be significant or just a degree or two?

No idea why people would say that. Unless a vpn can provide a shorter route to the game servers than normal but that doesn't even make sense since that's the whole point of routers in the first place; to get to the destination in as short of a route as possible. why would one want to use something like MPD for music? as far as i can tell, it's only useful if you want to have multiple people connected to one stream

>>
>>55464132
Possible? Yes. Easy and cheap? No. They have a wireless hdmi standard, but it tends to be hella expensive. There's something called DLNA, but it's probably what your smart tv was using in the first place, and is more like setting a media player as a library server than outright viewing the contents of your computer. Otherwise you would have to run some kind of vnc server on your computer and have a cheaper computer or pi connected to your tv as a receiver. If you were running a chromebook or android you could mirror to a chromecast, but thats about it.

Uh, ok, I guess I'll just get a large HDMI since the TV is less than 10 meters, probably 6 meters from my PC. Is just in another room, and I've read some things about DLNA but I was already using that like you said. A friend of mine bought some kind of micro PC that gets plugged to the TV's HDMI.
I'll end using a large HDMI or that micro PC I guess. Thanks anon.

Can NOT figure this out
please help

Grafix card was idling at 45 since I got it, then for no reason it jumped to 55 one day, immediately after tuning on.

So I took it apart, gave it a good clean, replaced the paste and pads and put it back together.

Now it idles at 60.
Can't play games because it jumps up to 80, possibly higher.

I have tried every usb port on my board, and the media reader usb port plugged in via the usb header on the motherboard.

What the fuck is going on?

No usb externals, or usbs flash drives fail on any port(differnt manufactures)
There are no drivers, beyond the basic hid usb drivers, as there at no specific drivers needed in linux for any mouse.

It won't escape your browser. It might steal all your typed passwords in the browser, scam or phish you, but nothing more than the browser allows.

Always look at the source code of the script, on the beggining there should be a block telling you on what sites given script is able to work. Don't use scripts that do something on all the sites you visit (It's http://*.* and https://*.* then).

I've used 1080p up close before, loved it as it was a massive step up from my shitty glossy laptop panel

I don't care about aesthetics on the 2nd screen, the nice one is obviously for productivity/gaming, the shitty one is to keep a wordprocessor, music player, chat open or whatever background tasks I have going on.

My desk is nice wood, but it is only 48 inches long - I suppose I could put the pc on the floor but it is carpeted and isn't that bad for the cooling?
I was going to get one nice one, and one shitty one so that everything would fit on the desk

Not exactly for the cooling but the dust would highly affect it.

You could buy a $130 1080p monitor and a cheap 4:3 monitor.

yes, you can either

1) make an alias
Write
alias sshpi='ssh 1.2.3.4'
to the end of your ~/.bashrc

2) make a function
Write
sshpi() {
ssh 1.2.3.4
}
to the end of your ~/.bashrc

3) make an executable
as root, write
#!/bin/bash
ssh 1.2.3.4
to /usr/local/bin/sshpi
then set the executable bit -
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/sshpi

It would be a good idea to start your build plans and maybe buy everything in around a month after the 1060 comes out.

By then you will have pretty decent options for new graphics cards and all the other parts don't really change throughout the year much anyway.

I would recommend waiting for the 1060 benchmarks to come out and then after that you can decide which gpu you want to get and start buying the parts.

I could really use some advice on my next music player purchase. I've got a 32 GB 4th Generation iPod touch that I've been using since 2010, and I'm finally deciding to upgrade since it's home button is broken and I'm having to delete some albums to make room for others. I'm not sure if I should pick up a Sony Walkman NW-A27HN 64 GB ($350), iPod Touch 6th Gen 128 GB ($400), or the Astell & Kern AK Jr. 64 GB ($400).

Both the Sony and the A&K have expandable storage, allowing them to equal and surpass the iPod's capacity. Quality of sound is a high priority for me, but so is the length of time I can listen to music. The main gripe I have with the A&K is that it allegedly only gets 9 hours of usage on a full battery, while the Sony has up to 50 hours, and the iPod gets something like 30-40 hours. I've heard that the Sony has issues with playlists and requires specific software to get songs/album art to display correctly, and obviously the iPod means I'll have to continue dealing with iTunes.

depends what kind of games you play and your budget. If you mostly play multiplayer competitive games I would go with 144Hz.
If you mostly play single player games or games that don't require very fast reactions then go with the 1440p - just make sure the gpu you're getting can run most games at 60fps at that frame rate.

For example most games I play are things like elder scrolls, fallout, doom, etc. Mostly single player games so it wouldn't really make sense for me to pick something with a higher refresh rate when 60 is enough.

What kind of information does a youtube account holder see on the people who watch private videos? You have to log in to see them.

I have been grabbing lectures with youtube-dl and I was a little worried the professor would see me watching them for 2 mins each when they are like 2 hours. Or a massive data/time spike.

as far as I know there's no individual data that the uploader gets.
So he will see that someone only viewed the video for 2 minutes, but he won't know who it was.

Why would it matter anyway? It shouldn't be too hard to explain that you download his videos instead of watching them on the site.

that's the minimum sys requirement? Must be quite a demanding game.

It should work with your cpu although you'll have to lower some settings. The hardware requirements are usually there so you can reach a certain performance level (usally 720p at 30fps I believe) but it doesn't mean the game won't run at all if you don't meet them.

Depends how large it is. Ideally you should only get an ssd but getting large ssd's is quite expensive so most people don't do that.
You should at least install your os on the ssd, and then games if you have the space. If it's a small ssd and you have large amounts of hdd space then install the os and any other programs on the ssd, and save games on the hdd.

>>
>>55467656
yes, but only because games take up a lot of space.
Ideally you would want everything on the ssd, and ssd's really do make a big difference for games.
Like I mentioned though hard disk space is cheap and solid state disk is expensive, so for most people they don't have enough ssd space to install their games on it.

You could install a few of your most played games on the ssd and that would pretty much eliminate the load times on them. 240gb should be enough for a couple of games.
>>
>>55467639

When framerate is unstable, it's because your computer's 100% isn't enough for the current action. It can't stockpile processing power because there's no way for it to anticipate real time interactivity. It's already using what's there. You could possibly overclock things to get a little more. This will make more heat and noise and shorten hardware lifespans and raise your energy bills.

GPU's work differently then CPU's at a base level.

what's your cpu load at?
Nvidia gpu's are good for taking the load off of cpu's but amd's graphics cards can't really do that much to ease the cpu. It might be that your processor is the bottleneck.
You could always try oc'ing the card if you have decent enough cooling.

>>55467765
Stick with brands that have good reputations for reliability. Just monitor r/buildapcsales for ssd's or something and you'll find a good deal pretty quickly.

>>55467732
Are you trying to run gta with these specs? I think to run any modern game you need at least 4gb of ram (ideally 8 or 16) and a more modern gpu. These things can be bought for pretty cheap (8gb of ram is like $30 and you can find decent gpus' like the gtx 950 for a little over $100).

Just suck a few dicks for cash on craigs list and you'll have enough money to upgrade ;P

>>55467791
Well, Intel and Micron still has 3D XPoint up their sleeves. They announced it last year July, so it's about one year now, but no products based on that has been released yet.

Mushkin showed a $500 4TB SSD at CES this January but it hasn't shown up on Amazon yet.

I'm assuming you are considering between the RX 480 and GTX 1060.

If so the 1060 releases at the end of this month. I think it would be perfectly acceptable if you started your build right now and held off on the gpu. Just make sure the parts you get are compatible with either the 1060 or the 480.

Dont buy parts until you know exactly what you're going to build.
You're going to miss sales/combos etc, that could apply when you build, not to mention prices will be lower for some parts in a month anyway.

holy FUCK
now I understand why proprietary = bad.

I foolishly bought a bluray drive thinking I'd be able to play bluray disks on my PC. Turns out the only software that works is like $50-$100.

And I'm specifically trying to get 3D side-by-side working so I can watch 3D movies in VR.
I paid for a player
I paid for a movie
now I need to pay for the fucking software?

I'm using MakeMKV in an attempt to gather both stereoscopic images, but doing so has proven to be difficult. I spent an hour running the software only to extract 3 exact copies of the same movie with no alteration in camera-perspective.

Can anyone please tell me there's a 3d sbs player for blurays.

the vr stuff is quite new and I wouldn't expect that to work perfectly. Maybe poke around the oculus forums if that's what you have, they were helpful when I had a dk2
>>
>>55468835
A standard 3D movie won't translate to VR well. Since I doubt it was filmed with a 360 camera, if you turn your head at all there'll be a disconnect between what you're seeing and what your brain knows you should be seeing, and you'll end up getting sick. You should just let 3D movies be 3D movies and not try to turn them into VR movies, unless you plan on sitting really still.

That being said, I'm sure you can pirate the software you need. What's the name of it?
>>
>>55468872

>>55468875
I've gotten SBS videos to work with VorpX flawlessly, so I know 3D videos work and I even downloaded some SBS movie stills to see what it would look like it VR.

After seeing still frames, I knew I wanted to try 3D movies.

Oh, Oculus Theater, ok, I figured you were just trying to strap it to your face and go to town.

I'd say just pirate it if you're not gonna spend the money on the software, honestly. With something so specific and the tech being so new, I doubt there'll be a freeware version. That, of course, doesn't mean you shouldn't look.

No, VorpX Cinema, I have a Vive.

Like I said, I got SBS to work already, and the way VorpX works is that it has a draw window that you can tie any application to. It has official support for MPC and VLC, and I've gotten it to work with MPC.

But apparently blurays are blocked on MPC, so if there's a workaround just to get 3D movies working on MPC (or vlc), I'd be all set.

Thanks! I appreciate it. Going for my A (A+?) cert first, since I already have a pretty solid understanding of hardware

Assuming you're using an Intel chip, I'd probably wait. The RX 480 is having some serious woes at the moment (https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/4qg4p7/rx_480_fails_pcie_specification/), so I'd hold off on that. If you do pick one up, opt for the 8GB variant. Personally though, I'd go for the 1060. I have a pure AMD build, and I regret it. There are some very useful things you can do with AMD that you can't with Nvidia (forcing tessellation off is great if you need the performance boost), but comparing how my 280 3GB is holding up to my friends' Nvidia cards just makes it not seem worth it. I'd suggest MSI or XFX for AMD, and EVGA for Nvidia.

Jokes aside, that should have no problem powering the 1070. I'd recommend EVGA. They make their cards in the US, and they make them damn well. Their 980Ti Classified is still more powerful than a 1080, last I heard

When I play 60 fps videos on Youtube, the video and audio are sometimes not in sync. When I switch to, say, 480p, the problem is solved. What could be the cause of this?
>>
>>55470302
anything above 720p 30fps the audio and video are sent separately, your browser may be fucking something up or maybe your computer sucks

Update your browser or get a better computer or use youtube-dl

Alright, thank you. Another reason to get an upgrade.
>>
>>55469659
If you're gonna do it you might wanna act quickly, resale on last gen cards is gonna drop pretty significantly with the next gen being out already. Otherwise wait at least a couple months so that everyone upgrading has already sold their cards and you can sell yours for more than current because of lack of supply.
