For every problem they find, the card increase in performance.

NVIDIA BTFO

GTX 1060 DEAD ON ARRIVAL
>>
>Starting with the 16.7.1 driver, AMD will automatically reprogram the power controller on the RX 480 to better divide the power draw from the 6 available phases on the reference cards. This is a process that occurs at each and every boot, it is not a permanent change to the VBIOS. It’s possible, and likely, that future cards and partner cards may have this change integrated at a lower level, negating the need for the driver to recognize and update the controller logic. But for now, with launch RX 480s in the wild, that’s how the process works.

if this process fails on startup and you have an OCed card then have fun with a destroyed motherboard, wtf amd

they really needed to recall the defective launch reference card and replace them with properly functioning cards rather than this shitty workaround. good thing i already returned my card for a refund.

still out of spec in compatibility mode. They're such a joke; just say fuck the spec if you're not going to follow the spec.
>>
>>55462083
You never bought one
>>
>>55462127
>let me tell you about what you did or didn't do

hello AMD H1B FUD brigade.
>>
>>55462083
>overclocking the RX 480
it sucks so much power for such a small increase in performance, it literally would be a better value to buy a 1070
>>
>>55462133
I wish. Would be much more fun than my real job
>>
>>55462126
The PCIe power spec is ten years old and components today are considerably better than back when they designed a 75w reference. Components can handle going 2% over their "official" ratings in any case, back then, today, or in 1950.

>>55462133
I believe you never bought one either.

>>55462137
Nvidia's cards OC 20-25% for a 10-12% gain in performance, no thanks, also yesterday I made a post showing that it would take seven years for a 480 to equal out the cost of a 1070 with the power draw difference.
>>
>>55462168
>better than back when they designed a 75w reference.

the spec is 66w. 75w was the de facto standard.
>>
>>55462168
>damage control: the post: the aftermath
Either they meet spec or they don't. They still don't. Maybe that doesn't matter, but it's hypocritical for the review sites that began the issue to claim this is fixed when it's not.

After today, it's a non-issue; GTX 1060 will truncate RX 480 sales right quick if production is high volume as nVidia claims.
>>
>>55462188
And the toms.de test showed the 480 drawing 67 watts on the 12V PCIe slot rail, wow, call the presses, AMD can't do anything right!

>>55462230
The spec doesn't fucking matter and that has been talked about here and everywhere else to death in the past week.

a 6pin is only "specced" for 75w yet most every card ever made by both nvidia and amd will draw over 75w. Why only now is this "PCIe official spec" some kind of issue?
AMD fixed their high PEG load with this driver. Case closed. Now shut up about it and shill the DOA 1060.
>>
>>55462083
It's beta software written in a week that controls power draw - no significant chance of a bug doing some real damage, I'm sure.

I've enjoyed the Nvidiot transition over the past month or so. From claiming perf/watt was literally the only metric that mattered during Maxwell's lifetime, to claiming that perf/watt means nothing when the RX 480 was announced and saying only raw performance matters, to back to saying perf/watt is THE thing again when it became clear that AMD didn't beat Nvidia there.
>>
>>55462258
The butthurt is strong. Sounds like you're the one invested in an outcome here.

The performance/watt numbers for 1060 are going to B the RX 480 TFO
