Stuck in a pickle with my PC build. Being Australian, GPUs aren't coming cheap. I'm torn between one of the new 480s or forking out cash for a 980.
Are the new 480s good? That whole power issue was just a random coincidence, yeah?
non ref 480

I'm not the smartest with this kind of side with parts. I know reference cards are the launch cards.
But usually how long is it until non-ref/aftermarkets come?

Your using mobos that overclock? Then its a non issue even if the power exceed and generate more heat.
The one that burned his mobo was using some cheapass ASRock.
Get the 480

I've only got a standard 1080p monitor, so I know anything more would be wasteful.
Only getting the 6600k for down the road if I need to OC. I'm perfectly happy with 1080p 60 fps, desu. I just want to make sure the AMD is a safe purchase. I haven't owned one in years and its stupidly hard to get a fair opinion on the internet.

save up and buy the 1070, single gpu performance that smashes the 480. don't cheap out on psu either and seagate hdd's are bad.

980 is going to be a much better deal, faster and more stable, go for it

Matter of weeks.

Get a Z170 chipset with a i5 6500 non-K if you plan on overclocking down the road, at least then you could probably sell the i5 and pickup a 6700K. For cooling just get a Hyper 212, those single 120mm rad designs perform on par or worse than $40 air coolers.
>Blueray drive
Why? You don't actually buy Blueray DVD's do you? Just grab a USB DVD/RW combo drive or a $20 internal one if you have to.
Also for that price get an EVGA 750W B2 or something better quality. See pic related. Strive for the Tier 1 or Tier 2a list. Also don't buy a 480 in Australia, it's a price gouged card. Get a 980 or 390.
1060

How old is that list? is the Corsair RMi/RMx series as good as the AX?
>>55438948
980s are price gouged too, no? The cheapest is pushing $650 AUD. I'll take your word on the rest of the parts tho.

980 Fast card in general. Expect to see good frames and efficiency from this 2 year old Architecture.
480 New card on the block with a bad attitude. Expect good frames and this card will work better when more DX12 games come along.
RX480 from Sapphire comes out this month.

I doubt the 980 upgrade is worth it if money is an issue.
Keep in mind, 90% of us giving you advice have never used both cards :^)

If you got the budget and sticking with 1080p
1070 is the king and will probably still be solid for 4 years.
My Gtx 280 served me will for 4 years at high / max settings till 2013 out of nowhere crapping out to Assassins Creed Black flag
