Could I get some feedback on this build? I don't plan on doing any overclocking. My budget is around $1000 and I figure it's probably unoptimized. I don't know much about monitors, but I just picked a smaller and cheaper one with good reviews to start off and would maybe replace it with something nicer or add or another a couple months down the line.

Sorry, I forgot that. I would like to run intensive games at 60fps on at least medium settings. Anything higher than that would be nice, though I don't have a good frame of reference. Some games I want to play are XCOM2, Mordheim, The Witcher 3. If those can run at 60fps on medium settings, I would be more than pleased. I have no plans for any kind of intensive professional work. The most I would do would be working in Photoshop.

Ditch the fan and paste, and you're better off going for an i5. Sandisk is a good ssd brand to consider. Probably a 550 watt power supply gold rated would be ideal. Get a Rx 480 not a 390 and for god's sake get at leas a 23 inch monitor

For gaming you want to ditch the FX-8350, probably go for a i5-6400
Considering you're not overclocking the stock heatsink will be fine.

For 1080p you could wait for a non-reference RX480 or just get a 970.
>>
>>55430950
8350 is okay, i5 is better if you can
don't use the stock cooler as >>55431068 said. Those are shit. Specially the one of the FX 8350 that I have. It's noisy and cool nothing. (I got a pure rock and it's a nice one. hyper 212 is one a lot of people recommend so I guess it's a good one too).

get a RX 480, it is better than a R9 390

don't take a seagate HDD

if you modify the GPU make sure to modify the PSU too.

Haven't really put much thought into that yet, but definitely not super complicated 3D games. I was thinking web design stuff and programs that use a website's API to display information, example: a native Windows program that makes browsing my local news site more compact and organised, and puts the article's content and it's comments right next to each other.
>>
>>55431240
Look for an H110 or B150 chipset if you're getting a i5-6400

Also don't bother with a full tower, you'll never need it all.

You're really just going to want an rx480, reference if you want to spend less, non-reference if you want the best value. 970 is a stupid buy when the rx 480 is available no matter how you frame it unless you really like Nvidia over AMD. GTX 1060 is also coming and could be an option, but I don't think it's going to be as cheap

Ok, so I redid the list substantially based on the feedback. It pushed the price a bit above my budget but I won't gripe about it. I'm not seeing RX480 in stock on pcpartpicker unfortunately. Also, my wattage has dropped to 330W... Is this just a bug (maybe because the graphics card isn't in stock or I picked the wrong one in the list?) or is it really that low now? That can't be right.

the RX 480 reference only takes about 150w. Getting your hands on one is still tough at the moment; they're selling out pretty quickly everywhere. They released about a week ago, so if you can wait another week or two there will be aftermarket cards and more stock. The GTX 1060 releases in two days, so you can also try your luck with that.
>>
What is the minimum SSD for business use?

I assume a cheap SSD like ADATA SP550 or SSD Plus wont be enough for this.
Last HDD the business used lasted 48655 Hours in 5 and half years and still going but worn on a computer with a low end AMD CPU and 1GB RAM and is time to replace it so i was called to build a new one for them.

It will be pretty much a low end computer but not prebuilt tier low end, it will be mostly a facebook, MSOffice, and skype machine.

I was thinking of building them a computer like:
G3240
a B85 mATX motherboard
240GB high end SSD
Cheap mATX case.
500B PSU.
4GB RAM
IGPU.

But i have a problem chosing a SSD for them since im not sure what counts as high end in a SSD, for a HDD i would just trow a WD Blue or Black.
>>
>>55431566
Unless you're worried about noise the stock cooler is fine

Sine this setup is using less power than your previous one 550W should be fine.
>>
>>55431591
You could get a dual core pentium and overclock the living shit out of it, some of the best emulator benchmarks are from doing this.

Ah okay. I'll just set up Newegg to keep me notified then I suppose. What about nonreference? Do they stock around the same time or is it all just random? I've actually never even heard the term until you guys brought it up. It kind of surprised me when I looked it up.
thank you for helping me because I literally didn't know jackshit outside of the wikis
>>
>>55431673
Yes, but wait for aftermarket 1070.
>>
>>55431673
Thats probably about the best price you could hope to sell it for. If you want to upgrade I'd go for it.
>>
>>55431610
You don't need a "high end ssd" for business. Any cheap old one will do, as long as it has good reviews to indicate low failure rates. Most sandisk/samsung/intel work fine, even their cheaper ones. It's really going to be a matter of size for you, because the speeds of most any modern ssd are all going to be way beyond what you need.
>>
What is the life span of a CPU? What could actually fail under normal usage? I have a LGA1155 mother board and a h60 cooler for it so I want to buy a 2500k on ebay for $100. Is the thing going to shit the bed after a year at 4.5ghz? I figure they'll have the same value in october when I'll have money for a new system so I'm not really spending any money. Same with the ddr3 sticks I'll need.
>>
This is for all my fellow waitfags: at what point do you finally decide to upgrade to a new product? Since new generations of hardware come out almost every year and for the most part seem to get better and better, especially when it comes to video cards. I've been waiting since Kepler and have had my eye on Vega/big Pascal but I'm tired of waiting desu

>>
>>55431696
reddit.com/r/amd is pretty much the only resource for now. Non-reference cards are still not "revealed," but they should be coming in a week or so. Reference cards are going to be hotter and use a blower fan, while non-reference cards are going to be cooler/use more power/overclocking possible and use a custom fan. Stock RX 480's are fine, but if you pay a bit more you'll get a better card. Price/performance may still be in the stock rx 480's favor, however.

>>
>>55431729
Rather than speeds the focus will be reliability because the business owner asked for a SSD.

He will still use the classic low end APU and 250GB seagate HDD on the other computers i build for him on the rest of the computers.

>>55431730
10+ Years, way less if you overclock it and have shit cooling, also bad luck on the silicon lottery.
>>
>>55431768

Gotcha. I'll probably just splurge the extra bit for the non-reference card if it comes out soon. I won't be buying the parts until another two weeks or so anyway.

>>
>>55431807
Right, and the pricey ones aren't expensive because of increased reliability, they're more marketed to enthusiasts. It's like buying hyperfast ram. It may be faster, but it shouldn't really last any longer. If you're really worried about reliability, consider a raid setup or improve your backup. Any ssd that isn't a super shitty model or brand is probably going to last about the same, except for the multi-cell varieties that probably cost more than your whole build

the rx 480 is a great card; you'd have to be a nvidia fanboy to think otherwise. It does what it says on the tin, a $200 1080p/60fps graphics card. If you have a 1080p 60 hz monitor, anything higher than the rx 480 would be wasted money. If the GTX 1060 has better performance and a similar price, it will be a contender. If it has better performance and a higher price, it won't be.

When I visit my dynamic DNS address it shows Me the nginx success page and I can load the php config output page. (Which I deleted immediately after successful testing out of paranoia).

Anyway. How to tell if my Freebsd jail is isolated from the host Freenas? I'm security paranoid. Also, how to tell in general if my (now internet facing box is being attacked or has any security flaws etc.
>>
>>55432448
Firewire wasn't mean to remplace USB (In fact, USB didn't existed when they began to design it( They're solved in that time two different problems.
And also, Apple didn't developed it alone. Sony was involved too.
In many ways, Firewire was superior to USB. But, finally, USB got the market for the same reason that UNIX got the market: It was worse, but simple to implement.

I'm having some very annoying problems that just came out of nowhere a few days ago.

1. My Windows 10 was no longer activated and every time I try to put in an activation code I get "Error installing product key" and the error code being 0xc0000022 when trying to activate it through the System settings in Control Panel. I can't even click anything once I go to the activation section in the Windows 10 settings area either, I get the error code 0xC004F012 followed by:
>Error description: The Software Licensing Service reported that the call has failed because the value for the input key was not found
Absolutely nothing on the internet has helped whatsoever. Not to mention I'm stuck with the activation watermark.

2. Chrome won't open unless I run it as an administrator, but then all my settings are lost. I've tried wiping all the Chrome files after uninstalling it and I tried different versions of Chrome to no avail.

I did install some new RAM a few days ago, but does that have anything to do with this?

Avoid the CX series PSUs. I'd go for the EVGA supernova 650 G2. It's $20 more but it's from a more reputable manufacturer and comes with a longer (7 years) of warranty.

You don't want to cheap out on the PSU.

find . -name "*\[a\]*"

'[' and ']' have a special meaning in the search pattern, so they must be escaped with \.
Also, I assume you want to find [a] anywhere in the filename, so you need to put the * on both sides.

I used the tox app and it was almost perfect except it lacked sharing integrated in other apps and you could only send files when other user was online, also the calling quality was bad the only time I tried.
As for otr I just tried ChatSecure but it was difficult to set an account so none of my friend will want to try that also it lacked calling and other things.
The only option I see is going back to tox and for it to get better or for a better app or just succumb to the botnet and install Signal(although I tried LibreSignal from Fdroid but it lacked calling and integrated sharing)
Thanks for the reply

You can try. That being said if it's a newer laptop (which it clearly is because it comes with Windows 10) there may not be drivers for some of the hardware. That being said if you're willing to take the risk Acquire a windows 7 iso, reformat and install. If you're installing from from older or SP1 versions of windows 7 you'll need to manually download and install KB3102810 and KB3083710 and preferably the latest convenience rollup you can find on Windows Update Catalog.

Do gpu coolers typically pull air across the heat sink and blow it out of the top, or bring air through the fan and blow it across the heat sinks? I ak because i have a gtx 970 dc mini in a thermaltake core v1, and the huge fan on the case creates a large reservoir of cool air inside the case, but i think the gpu is also drawing cool air from outside the case, while i would prefer it to draw from the cool air inside the case and exhaust it. also if is there any way to get additional fans if you have used up the spots on the mobo, i have a gigabyte z170n wifi, and i want to add fans at the back of my case, but it only has spaces for the cpu and a case fan

Fans pull the air in and blow it directly on the heatsink, the hot air rushes out the side of the card (and a little out the back).

Blower cards basically just shoot air across the heatsink and out the back of the card.

As i understand FPS problems in games are usually related to VGU issues, however, it came to my attention that in open world games such as Minecraft which aren't very demanding in terms of graphics, the FPS might still drop while loading chunks of the map, my first thought in this particular case was "ok, more ram should do the trick", but than it hit me "loading chunks... uh, could it be the HDD?"

So, could it? What i'm debating here is basically if an SSD could fix loading issues in games and help with FPS assuming the GPU isn't the issue, what do you guys think?

Please, feel free to state this is complete bullshit if you find it to be so, but do explain why.

That's silly, having more than 1TB HDD and 1TB SSD internal is pointless, just go for externals if you need more space in the future.
>Is there anything wrong with filling it up with 16GB ram instead of 8x2?
Most systems today are designed with dual RAM in mind, so always prefer the Yx2 setup

Stop buying everything black and red with GAYMAN slapped on the front of it, determine what criteria you need to meet for each components and work backwards to reduce your costs.
Get an HDD to go with the SSD for long-term file storage, or a removable option (esp. For videos and photos. SSDs benefit from loading programs faster but lose lifespan the more you data write to them)

Yes, an SSD is going to improve the speed of loading game data, but it's limited by the efficacy of the code it's trying to run. So, in Minecraft's case, the code is shitty and improving the speed MAY not help at all.

Obviously going to add HDDs, not more SSD..

I already filled up 4 2TB external drives with random shit and have my raspberry pi seeding everything 'cause private trackers.
It would be easier to just put it all in my PC, right? Instead of getting a different device for a seexbox and have to stream to tv/pc?

I don't know, money isn't really a problem.

The process of building isnt hard anymore. Things only fit one way, and they are color coded. There are no wrong ways to install cables(master, slave cable + jumpers) anymore.

>>55435543
If he has the money 500GB SSDs aren't too expensive anymore. With the setup he's shelling out for I doubt he cares much about what he's spending.

I kind of regret having a 120GB SSD / 1TB HDD setup since windows and a handful of games/programs already takes up 80% of the disk easily. And if you're autistic about writes on the SSD uninstalling/installing other games could be a pain and ruin your drive.

Should get at least 240GB and pair it with an HDD for storage. Samsung is also infinitely superior to the Kingston drives if you wanna nit-pick.

>>55434905
This build is about as good as it gets without getting a 1080.

If I were trying to cut corners I'd probably go with an i5, 240GB Samsung SSD, and the Asus Z170 Gaymer board. I also think 850 watts is overkill for what you're running @stock presumably, but I think LI suggests it for OC headroom since these are all performance parts.

Get a 7.2k rpm HDD to go alongside the SSD like the other anon suggested.

If you're getting all this don't be a cheap nigger and at least buy the 212 EVO for cooling.

>>55436145
Not really, it just means it'll use up more ram depending on how much you give it. If you're using uTorrent there's a limit to how much ram you can use since it's 32-bit.

Usually you do this for slower drives and you can end up having to wait a bit anyways once the torrent finishes since the memory has to flush to the disk (you'll get a flushing to disk message for a bit).

Disk Overload is pretty unusual though for modern drives unless you're doing something ontop of that.
>>
>>55436259
I've got a 3TB WD Red. I've heard some mixed stuff about it, but so far it has worked fine. I just get Disk Overload for a bit every time I start a ~20gb torrent. Bit annoying. Thanks, I'll see if I can do something about it then. I didn't know it was something fixable before, but I just heard it was.

>>
>>55436966
Anon, what is the name of your GPU.
Did you connect the PCI power cable if it uses it?
>>
>>55437015
Im gonna guess, trying to decipher your message

Make sure your video card is installed. Make sure you have all the power connectors hooked up.

Plug your monitor into you video card and start your PC. If it doesnt work, shut it down
Plug into onboard, then start your PC and go to your BIOS.

Change whatever setting you can find to turn off onboard graphics, and to force PCIe graphics.

Your motherboard SHOULD automatically recognize a PCIe graphics card and output video to it.
Windows should automatically see it too, you would then install the video drivers after you booted into windows with it..

Since its not, you have a power problem, a settings problem on the mobo, or you killed your card

Get a different case.
I looked at that for my mini ITX build.

The power supply is mounted over the motherboard.
Its sucking in hot air from your motherboard

Other similar sized cases have the PSU at the bottom which is much better.
The PSU pulls in cool air from outside the case. It keeps the PSU cooler, impedes airflow less, and since the PSU isnt heating up keeps overall system cooler
