so this is probably some miniscule thing i'm missing, but whatever.
i recently bought an 8800GTS because it was dirt cheap and my beater rig could use a decent card, but when i inserted it and tried booting up all i got was a high-pitched continous beep, which i've read is probably a POST code for video failure.
now, here's where it gets fucky : my PSU is arguably too weak for the 8800GTS (350W with a 15A 12V rail), but is this enough to trigger a video failure warning, or is the GPU it self not functioning? also, could i get away with somehow powering the card externally?

ded card is ded and ancient
You bought a dead card.
Never buy a card more than 3 generations old. Right now you shouldn't purchase anything further back than nVidia GTX 700 series or AMD Radeon 200 series.
