This is a sincere question so don't make this into a bait or Windows hate thread.
I have install many Linux distributions and Windows versions over the years. I have never needed to install lan drivers on linux, but every single time on windows.
Is there a reason for this

Depends on your hardware. A lot of Linux kernels have "Plug n' Play" functionality. I install drivers on both Linux and Windows.

The drivers weren't compiled into the kernel or loaded as modules. It's simple.
