I have never used Windows sounds, not even back in Windows 95.

Silent

No sound at all. Computers are supposed to be completely silent unless I explicitly click the "play" button in a media player.

Besides, why do you want your operating system make annoying loud noises when you're listening to music or watching a movie? Often not turning off sounds is a sign that the person owning the computer doesn't know how to turn them off.

After disabling it I go through the registry and file system and remove all traces of it so when fucking with themes etc it doesn't get to renable some retard sound scheme as it no longer even exists.

I primarily use system sounds as a quick reference for volume adjustments.

I just set my master to 75% and adjust each other app accordingly. Never have a problem.

The objectively worst Windows sound theme though is the one called Delta, it plays jarring off-key string instrument sounds for warnings and it was the reason I finally turned sounds off

Like I would open a browser and go to type in the address bar but the window had lost focus and my key presses would go into nowhere (I guess explorer.exe) and after the computer caught up it would sharply and loudly ding at me half a dozen times it was literally was a form of torture
