Is it true that US cell providers have shit that detects if you have a "smart" phone (that you got 3rd party or something) on their network and will force you into a data plan? One thing that has always been against me getting a smart phone is that they will force me onto a data plan which makes my bill go up even if it's an unlimited data provider. My bill right now is cheap as hell and I want it to stay that way. Even straight talk and metro pcs and stuff's unlimited data plans are more expensive than what I pay right now.

I keep seeing this as a story for people on AT&T esp where they used an unlocked phone and then AT&T automatically went and changed their plan when they saw that it was a smart phone.
