depends on the protocol, serial is usually higher frequency and faster speed
also pata used to send more complicated instructions, like head movement etc to the drive, serial only sends a request

>I don't go to parties with people like you. Those 'parties' are for stupid people who need to distract themselves from how stupid they are and how horrible their lives are as a result.
pretty much this,

i'm way to chill to be around people that retarded, they always start fights with people they see as smarter than themselves, all i wanted to do was chill and eat some barbecue and drink a beer, not get shitfaced and harass people for not other reason than, my own insecurities about my level of intelligence so i have to assert my dominance in a physical way

but they are too drunk to do that effectively anyways, lumbering swings that anyone can dodge

but yea, parties with shitfaced idiots were never my thing, get a little buzz and eat some good food, make some jokes, tell some drunken stories, then go to sleep without needing to worry about someone drawing on my face, life is good senpai, you should try partying better people, i'll call you a retard when you're being retarded, i hope you do the same to friends, telling a friend it's not worth it is better than backing up their retardation and get int a fight with them

Well, if you ran serial data on an IDE cable it could probably be just as fast. IDE was just an older and easier-to-implement standard and hard drives didn't need any more than the 6.0Gbps that a single SATA link could provide.

the last one, some random guy i met for 2 seconds weeks before, stumbled into me when i got there late because i had to work, i didn't say sorry because he's drunk and stumbled into me as i was coming in, i go and grab a beer, and start looking for a friend to chill with, guy follows me talking shit, and tries to sucker punch me, i step out of the way, and i just leave because fuck dealing with guys like that

i'm more of a potluck/group picnic kind of guy, eating and chilling, maybe a beer or two, and you get looked down at for getting too drunk.

When I was a kid I would be very defensive about technology features that seemed to be requested by a lot of people.

For instance, I would read people criticizing PS2 developers for including progressive scan modes in their games and I would be thinking WHO THE HELL CARES WHAT THE FUCK IS PROGRESSIVE SCAN ANYWAY
>>
>>55232420
SATA cables do utilize twisted pairs for the differential signaling, so you do get common mode rejection from that. They are also a bit better transmission lines. Still, if you implemented better signaling (differential) on that ribbon cable, you could blow the fuck out of the SATA cable for throughput.

Holy hell, I organize a party once a year that is focussed on grilling and eating with eachother, it has always been fun and everyone just enjoys themselfs.

On the flipside I've been to most parties of other people and it's drilled down to this: alcohol, loud music (mostly the current top 40 radio hits or some hardstyle), some awkward conversations because there is nothing to do and a lot of smoking and getting drunk

There is just no food to be had whenever I go to other people, so it gave me the idea to focus it on the food itself

I'm not sure what I do that gives it a whole different mood, but another mans party is just drunk people, loud music and a room filled with smoke while mine is just comfy, everyone sharing stories and grilling some food that he or she enjoys and others playing some games in the background with no drunk people awkward silence or shitty music
>>
>>55235078
Hey anon. Don't look merely at specs.

If it does what you needed then it wasn't a bad buy. You should stop worrying about what's on paper and enjoy your purchase instead. I'll admit apple is overpriced, but it is a pre-built and it came in a small form factor. Also OSx.

It doesn't change the input voltage, there is a voltage multiplier inside so when switch is in 120V position then the resulting is 240V, when the switch is on 240V then the voltage doubler is omitted.
So if you set 120V when you have 240V mains then the resultant voltage would be approximately 480V.

When dual core processors were first on the horizon for the mainstream market I thought a single computer could function as two by using a set of PS/2 peripherals and USB peripherals then adding a 2nd monitor with a matrox AGP card.

Of course this can be done through virtualisation but my thought process back then thought that's what it would mean with a 2nd core.

>>55243687
I'm not gonna stop you.

I don't know but you should be able to download it and re-up it to something like soundgasm or chirb.it

Much obliged
>>
>>55243710
I thought it was the total sum of ghz, so a 2ghz dual core would be 2 1ghz CPUs working as one.

Your processor talks to your ram In parallel.
I would like to think that's a high frequency and fast.

Mostly for airplanes, so it can vent pressure differences.

Eh not really. I don't remember 8 tracks, but my dad had a bunch. Some actually cool shit too. I learned right away that I wish I'd never discovered wtf they are though. I mean there's a reason that cassettes eventually made them go extinct. These kids aren't missing much either.
>>
>>55231879
But doesn't parallel mean 8 bits are being sent at once, versus one-by-one over serial?

CDs are better than streaming services and most downloadable music though, because they are lossless.

You can install apt on gentoo.

I reckon it has something to do with airflow. The head rotates at 7200 rpm and there's a thin later of air between the head and the disc to provide a cushioning effect.
>>
>>55245074
Because of this more time is wasted checking if all the bits came alright and at the same timeslot, Serial is simpler and can work on a faster bandwidth with less headache
>>
When I was little I used to imagine that the internet worked because of lots of little men that would send people the stuff that they wanted, ie web pages and files to download. Yeah I was a stupid shit, guess I had a good imagination though.

In the same vein
>Oh, PATA must be parallel since you can have multiple drives in parallel on the same cable
>I guess that means the signal for serial drives goes back and forth from the motherboard through each data port and then to the cpu

No idea why I never questioned that concept any further until I thought of it again one day and realized it was stupid.
>>
>>55232475
So... you mean SAS then?
>>
>>55232829
Because you'd be pulling a shitton of amps through the first cable. I doubt it'd be enough to trip anything on its own, but it'd still be higher than I'd be comfortable with.

Pacman is reasonable though. The point of using a non-Debian/Ubuntu distro is to avoid the inherent shittiness of Debian/Ubuntu.

>>55245425

Why use Gentoo as a hostname on another distro? Trying to impress people maybe? Sounds like autism to me. Why not use "bigdick" or "MrAwesome" instead?

Son, I don't know how they do it in the big city where you come from, but 'round these parts folks don't take too kindly to chaining drives together. We are simple, honest folks. We like our cars naked, our women fast, and our drives SATA.

Parallel = Multiple things at the same time
Serial = One thing at a time

How come serial is faster than parallel? Intrinsically it should be the other way around

If recognizing a hole in your knowledge and asking a question or doing research in an attempt to fill the gap in your knowledge is a sign of being unintelligent then you must take pride in being as ignorant as physically possible.
