>read the message aloud

Why do old people not read messages on their computer?
>>
They're scared of the messages.
>>
they can just ask one of the youngsters instead.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

>tell her to update it frequently and repeatedly tell her to read the popups
>show her how to google so she learns how to fix her own problems
>show her how to do backups
>show her how to use noscript/umatrix
>install adblocker
>tell her about common malware
>never had to fix the pc in like 8 years

when she got the computer she didn't even know the difference between files and folders, saved everything on the desktop and i had to copy photos from her digicam because she didn't understand how to do it.
now she can use linux and even windows without fucking anything up.
you're just a bad teacher, op.

They have been conditioned to just click x on whatever comes up by all kinds of useless pop-up dialogs software and the OS produce.
Error codes, are you sure you want to do this, tip of the day, get the full version for just 5$, your antivirus database has been up dated
>>
The mind goes with age, man. They don't read street signs either. I've seen a grown woman jiggle the door of a closed, lights-off store for a solid ten count instead of stopping to look at the posted business hours.

UHHHHH.
>>
>>55185673
It's not old people only, kids and tech illiterates just panic when they get a message and either press X or if someone's next to them they ask "what should I do". Bonus points if another tech idiot is next to them and s/he says "oh, just press X". I've seen plenty of that shit.

Fuck off.
If this feature is here then it means we can use it, whether or not you liking it.
>>
>>55186176
Being able to call out a tripfag is also a "feature" of the text field, whether or not you like it. "Fuck off from telling someone to fuck off" is pretty silly m9
>>
>>55185906
The mind only goes out with age if you stop working it. Most people after a certain stop learning new things, slowly but surely their mental capacity to think diminishes.

Remember, never stop learning, keep the mind busy.
>>
>>55185906
It's just that they think everyone will go out of their way to satisfy them. My grandpa always thought he'd get helped faster at official buildings when he'd start sperging about his shit being more urgent because he's an old man, needless to say I've had to lie to security guards about his mental state a lot of fucking times, hoping he wouldn't make a scene out of me telling people he's starting to lose it, and he fucking did most of the time, so I had to tell him to sit his old ass down and act like he's sane if he actually even fucking is.
Tl;Dr: Old people are dicks.
>>
>>55186394
Perhaps. I wouldn't put it past a lot of people to think "Whatever that sign/person/whatever says, it doesn't change what I want and I'm not interested in making compromises."

What makes me question that, however, is when you probe a little deeper. I've dealt with older people who ignore errors by having them read them aloud to me. I'm talking about the errors written in pretty straightforward English here. Stuff like "the previously open draft cannot be recovered." When I then ask them to tell me what that sentence means, they're clueless. That's straight up brain rot. Makes me wonder if the stubbornness is just a cover for the realization that they're slowly going mushy in the head.
>>
>>55186441
Well yeah, that is usually a sign of mental retardation, sometimes you don't realise someone's stupid until you see them use a computer though, so they might've been retarded all along.

Adblocker is one of the best things to stop bad shit from happening to tech illiterate people. They no longer have to try find the legit download button
>>
>>55186465
He was more of a crazed hippy, he actually thought that by killing people he'd slow down the destruction of the earth by humans, and what better way to do that than killing the people that are also the furthest away from his definition of the human ideal.
>>
>>55186104
but thats easier than trying to teach an ignorant idiot how to do it right
>>
>>55186505
If Terminator Genisys taught me anything, it's that the destruction of makind will come at the hands of idiots who don't read pop up messages.
>tap here to install Skynet
>>
>>55186535
Isn't it more like people that buy the newest shit that gets so overhyped even your grandparents want it. Applefags for example, I'd imagine they'd line up in front of the store 2 weeks before apple released an iRope to neck themselves with.
>>
>>55186176
This is an Anonymous message board. Go to a forum if you want a name for yourself.
>>
>>55186567
New shit is fine. You just have to install GNU/Linux. Skynet wouldn't have infiltrated the world if people supported FOSS. Stallman did nothing wrong.

He used to write COBOL programs in DOS, but somehow Windows made him completely computer illiterate. It's really weird.
>>
>>55186753
>go over there
Gives me the impression that he bullshitted a "tech support problem" in order to spend some time with you in person.
>>
>>55186639
Funny how this "anonymous message board" gives me the option to use a name :')
>>
>>55186779
Nah I see him pretty often.

He's been having these problems since his first Windows computer. It's really weird because he had no problems at all before.
He's also the one who got me into programming as a hobby when I was a kid.

Normies don't read, period, my sister is the same, over and over again.

>Anon how do I print?
>Anon how do I scan this?
>Anon where is the file I downloaded?

Both me and my dad already told her to fuck off and read shit before doing it. On the other hand my mom, who doesn't touch tech with a 3 meter pole, keeps nagging me to fix it for her all the times, because "I'm the computer guy, she doesn't need to know how to do it"

Fucking kill me

Why is she still living at home at 28. Is she at least employed or pursuing an education?
>>
>>55187892
I'm just amazed and flabbergasted at how illiterate and retarded the average person is

But I'm getting into IT (Networking... hopefully there'll be jobs when I'm finished...) and these kinds of people are what'll likely keep me employed, so I guess I can't complain too much.
>>
>>55191206
Women aren't shamed (nor held responsible) for anything anymore.

She just needs a boyfriend and bam, job done. She'll live in his apartment or basement or whatever and leech off his accomplishments.

>>
>>55185791

>>
>>55185791
You see when someone -wants- to learn it's easier. I do tech help on the side for some people and it won't matter how many times I show them how to use the goddamn printer if they don't bother listening. Some people just dont want to learn.
>>
>>55186441
This is why I have a chance at replacing the baby boomer in engineering jobs hopefully
>>
Because they are lazy as fuck like everyone else on this miserable world and would rather have someone else do the work for them.
>>
If the average person is really are too stupid and lazy to read error messages, why are markets efficient? Is this just selective stupidity?
>>
>>55193494
Why do you think 99.9999999999% of trading is done via automatic computer systems now?
