Expensive watches is often where a lot of the unique and interesting technology is.

Every day when someone comes in here asking for buying advice and all they really say is what color they want the dial, what color of strap, how they want a certain kind of numeral and how it needs to be under 100 dollars, that person is jewelry shopping.

Don't get me wrong, some people at much higher ranges are still jewelry shopping with no real interest in the technology of the watch or its production. But since if those higher ranges have some pretty cool and advanced things going on.

i thought xxx-meters is actually accurate for that many meters but only in completely still water with no current, compared to actually moving water in a diver's xxx-meters test.
>>
>>55182044
This is correct. 30m means 30m of static water pressure.
Problem is, static water pressure doesn't mean shit so it's much better to just rate water resistance by bar or atm.
>>
>>55182068
bars and atms are just meters/10 right? 30m = 3 bar = 3 atm?

>>
>>55181960
Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Please learn some physics, dynamic water pressure is effectively inconsequential compared to the static pressure. The human body just can't move a watch fast enough for it to make a difference.

One mvmt vs a fairly significantly shittier mvmt.

There are some decent 5s if you dig deep enough, but a lot of them are either too basic or too busy.
And while it's not a 5, I really like the look of the Alpinist.

I could never understand why people like wearing watches. Your phone can show you the time as well.
When I see someone wearing one I automatically assume he probably also has a CRT TV and a landline phone.
>>
>>55187754

A good $32 watch is the Komandirskie. That is what I recommend you buy with $32.

The first Bagel I bought had crooked indices, fingerprints on the dial and hands from the Chinks who assembled it, and it ran an HOUR fast per day. Brand new watch. Not to mention the general assembly quality was just bad (definitely the worst bracelet I've ever seen). Also the hacking lever didn't work, and after opening it up I discovered it was because it was bent.

The second one I received, after arguing for days with the seller, was so badly put together that the dial of the watch moved every time you hand-wound it. The jumpy Miyota seconds hand was taken to the extreme, and between 3 and 6 o'clock it almost looked like a quartz watch. Oh and it still had crooked indices and fingerprints.

Maybe it's just because I'm not used to wearing fucking dogshit, but honestly the Bagelmeme is DOGSHIT. The QC is either extremely spotty or nonexistent, and frankly the price of the things had doubled from where it is supposed to be. You can get the same terribleness from other watches on Ali for less, or you could get a Vostok, or you could spend another $20 and have a Seiko 5.

I just don't get the thought process here. I mean it's literally retarded.

Pocket watches were he norm until wrist watches came about and were more convenient.
So, now people argue that wrist watches are irrelevant because you always have a clock in your pocket, essentially a pocket watch. A proven less convenient way of telling time.

I just don't even.

When I see pieces like the KS Special, the 6138, linen dial Lord Marvel or the Vanacs, I do get the impression that Seiko doesn't try as hard as they used to. Even a lot of the modern movements are somewhat inferior to their vintage counterparts. But at least Seiko is always bringing out new designs instead of resting on their laurels for 50 years (like Omega) or reaching back into the past and resurrecting an old design to generate interest in the brand (like TAG HUEHUE and Swatch's Longines).

>>55190392
Most of them are fine, but be sure to buy from reputable (ie, Japanese or Australian) sellers. I've bought 4 vintage Seikos off eBay and one from Y! Auctions and haven't had major problems with any of them. Keep in mind, amplitudes and power reserves might be a little low, and of course none of them should be considered water resistant to any degree.

The same could be said about old Citizens, slavshit and even old HMT-s. I bet it's the lower BPH in vintage movements that make them so robust.

Pic related, I gave this old HMT a basic service and it now does pretty nice on the timegrapher. It's at -30s from atomic time after three weeks. Not exactly a chronometer but still accurate enough for normal use.

It's called a coat of arms, not a logo you fucking philistines. They are not just identifiers for corporations.

If you see a coat of arms and think of it as a beer logo you seriously need to get out of the trailer park.

I bet you think NASCAR invented racing.
>>
>>55193378
OMG like who the fuck even cares? I'm European you fucking euphoric cuntnigger, and I know what a coat of arms is. Those are logos, since I'm pretty sure Orient and Kaltenberg are legal companies and not property of a noble family or a national government. Go be an autistic little queer stuck in the (literally) shitty middle ages somewhere else, like r/heraldry.

As someone who actually spends a fair amount of time outdoors, I can tell you that I've found these ABC watches to be no more useful than a regular tough watch.

I now value water and impact resistance more than anything else, aside from accurate time keeping obvs.

What I carry now in terms of navigation aids are a suunto compass, map, cell phone, and hand held Garmin GPS.

My watch comes in useful when I have to go into the water on a kayak and need to put all my digital shit in bags.

funny, it would be abnormal in china for a delivery to be late by a day. No one have time to be late a day in china, everyone is busy getting rich.
So, you'd even pick up your phone and dial the local motobike delivery man for the delivery company in question and ask what's up.

It's currently dark as fuck, I'll check if it is a re dial when it is a bit lighter and see wether I'm a tard and can't wind it up properly, if it is fucked I'll let you have it for pretty cheap

Honestly I don't think Seiko is going through a design crisis, and both these pieces are part of the proof. There's other cool stuff too, like the SARB065, the SARX015, SARX019, the Shogun, and then of course the Grand Seikos. I think the designs are overall a lot more tasteful and forward-looking than the Swiss equivalents.

-30s total or per day? 30s total over 3 weeks is 1.43s/day, and within COSC. That's pretty impressive for a poo-in-loo watch.

I don't think that's how it works. Also with the beat error it does it definitely isn't COSC. The hairspring stud is fixed into the balance cock, the only way to regulate beat is to fuck around with the collet, which I'm not going to do.

Ok. So Apple invented the tablet. The mp3 player. etc, etc.

>>

We're talking about mechanical watches.
You look at this thread, or any /wt/ past, the average price of a watch will be $150 that you see people wearing, with the odd exception of a Grand Seiko, or a Rolex.

One can argue luxury vs tool all day. But if you're so strongly opposed too luxuries and hold the stance that they have no place or usecase, then feel free to sell your house and live on the street. After all, who needs a house when a shop doorway will keep the rain off you just as well. It's just a luxury in the end. amirite?

And where would have I stated that I'm opposed to them? What I'm strongly opposed to is not calling things with their name. The only thing I did was to specify that the first purpose of a mechanical watch it's not that of telling the time.
In fact I love mechanical watches, which explains why I'm here in the first place.
>You look at this thread, or any /wt/ past, the average price of a watch will be $150 that you see people wearing, with the odd exception of a Grand Seiko, or a Rolex.

I broke it while trying to get it back in the barrel after about 20 minutes of trying with fingers i used my tweezers and when it unsprung the end broke off.
It was mostly my own dumb fault. But i bought 4 more movements last night for $8 so it's not like it's an expensive lesson
