I just got back from 4 years out of the country with the navy.
I have an old computer that I bought maybe a year before I was sent off. I've upgraded to a GTX 970 with 12gb of RAM, but my processor is still the same.
i7 860 @ 2.80
Is this processor still pretty good? Will it significantly bottleneck the 970? I don't know shit about processors these days. I've been on the internet like 10 times since 2012.
Also it hasn't been OCed at all, so if it isn't good enough @ 2.80, is OCing rather than upgrading viable?
Thanks. I know this thread sucks but internet searching on this topic is awful.
OC it and you'll be fine

My cooler is a shit box from bestbuy just to get it turned on right now because my liquid cooling died while I was gone. Once I get a better cooler in, any advice on what speed I should try OCing to? Like how far do I need to push it to get this processor on par with my 970?

That shit was like brand new when you bought it dayum. Should be alright desu depending on what you want to do.
Also have a hard time believing youve barely been on the internet in 5 years. The fuck did you do during CQ, or battalion duty (or whatever the Navy equivalent it)

Wasn't it 3.5 years, anon?
