Didn't see one so I thought I would make one for my own terrible question.

Simple question, should I?

I'm just looking for the best bang for my buck large as hell HDD to store movies and crap on.

I wont have any games on it, so as far as I know speed isn't a big deal (right?). It will be nothing but PDFs, movies, and other non-active crap.

I'm currently trying to decide between it and a WD blue 6TB for $199 since it has much better reviews.

Open to suggestions though, I know just about nothing.

I am having some weird issues. I have a wifi modem setup. Internet is connected and when phones connect to the wifi they can get through fine.

However an ipad and a laptop (thinkpad with win10) are both unable to get internet. They will connect to the wifi but it just says "No Internet, secured."

Anybody know what could be going on? I am literally on the other side of the planet from these people and cannot speak the language the modem so it is a bit tricky trying to troubleshoot this.

guy with the German windows 7 here from the last thread, everything was going ok until I tried to install a certain driver to the computer.

after the restart my mouse no longer works and neither does my keyboard. they both have lights and neither turns on.

putting the computer in a certain safe mode, don't know which, its in german, allows me to use the mouse and keyboard again and I can use the mouse and keyboard just fine in bios as well

I tried a super simple usb mouse and it still wouldn't work

the mouse I was using before had a super faint flutter of light when I pressed down the left click key but still didn't didn't light up after

My internet stopped working for certain websites and I don't know why. I think my ISP may have fucked up as they messed up on switching an internet plan, but I don't know how this could have resulted from it.

I've tried switching to google DNS with same result. Sometimes I can ping google and sometimes I can't, it's almost random. Just now captcha isn't loading so I'll have to wait however long before I can post..

Can someone help me choose between buying an Android tv box from Gearbest(~30€) with Android 5.1 and sd card entry or a rbpi 3 (~60) ? On one hand the Android box is much cheaper but it comes all bloated it's only Android, on the other hand in the rbpi3 I can install any Linux distro and use it as a computer if I need to.

>Why is the www neeeded at all?

it's not needed at all but back in ye olden days a parent domain might have been pointing to a non-web service such as ftp and a browser lacking ftp support might not have done anything with the domain, ergo www. for web server, ftp. for ftp service etc

but if you're using the domain for multiple things www. pointing explicitly to a web server might be useful in some scenarios

Why the fuck is every motherboard manufacturer using realtek shit sound now?
I used to have mid-high-tier AM2 motherboard with Analog Devices SoundMax integrated and sound quality was more than good enough for my collection of /hpg/-approved bargain bin shit.
Now I've been forced to use some top-tier Z97 motherboard and the sound is so shit I literally can't watch anime or play vidya until I get some decent dac.

Also have some issues with asmedia and intel sata controllers and kinda missing "AI NET" lan cable testing feature, I mean in the 4 months since I've been using new motherboard I had 3 cases where it would have been very useful. Maybe I should just repair my old space heater. /blog

Yeah I'm sure they're on the same connexion. Here's the code if that can clarify some things.

public boolean insertEmploye(Employe emp) {
String req1 = "INSERT into employe (nom, prenom, adresse, idVille) VALUES "
+ "('"+emp.getNom()+"','"+emp.getPrenom()+"', '"+emp.getAdresse()+"', "
+ "(SELECT id FROM ville WHERE Commune='"+emp.getCommune()+"'));";

if(ConnexionMYSQL.getInstance().actionQuery(req1) == false)
return false;

String req2 = "SELECT MAX(Id) FROM employe;";
ResultSet resu = ConnexionMYSQL.getInstance().selectQuery(req2);
int dernId;

try {
resu.next();
dernId = resu.getInt("dernId");
} catch (SQLException ex) {
Logger.getLogger(DAOEmployeMYSQL.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
return false;
}

String req3 = "INSERT into email (Adresse, IdEmployé) VALUES ('"+emp.getEmail()+"', '"+dernId+"')";

return true;
}

I replace the actual query by SELECT MAX(Id) from employe;
>>
>>55129118
>selectQuery()
what does that do?
ConnexionMYSQL is a black box for me.

besides that, use parameters, don't concatenate queries like this.

if it really doesn't work use a transaction before you select max(id). otherwise you could get back the wrong id if something else inserts something at the same time.

I'm going to put some error message if something else is inserted.
And ConnexionMYSQL is the class that has the sql connectors methods in it. To be completly honest, I just pasted from a project we had to do in class since it had the same structure.
For the parameters, yeah I will eventuallY;

But should I keep my req2 query just like this ? It works but I still don't know why last_insert_id doesn't return anything.
And like I said, it's not a java class error since putting directly the query in phpMyAdmin does the exact same thing.

The Id field is PK and auto_incremented so it shoudn't have any problem.

so your mysql class thing uses a new connection every time.

you probably can also do just.
String req1 = "INSERT into employe (nom, prenom, adresse, idVille) VALUES "
+ "('"+emp.getNom()+"','"+emp.getPrenom()+"', '"+emp.getAdresse()+"', "
+ "(SELECT id FROM ville WHERE Commune='"+emp.getCommune()+"'));"
+ "SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID();";

ResultSet resu = ConnexionMYSQL.getInstance().selectQuery(req1);

so your insert and select get done in the same connection and returns the last id.

Beep code says in the manual gpu not inserted properly, however gives me the same error with 2 different gpus, my old 6850 and my 970 which is.less than a year old. My mobo is a Gigabyte 970A-UD3, 4 y/o. My PSU is a HX650 just 2 y/o. I don't have another PSU to test but it seems fine with the paper clip test, it gets a HDD spinning just fine.

My cpu is a Phenom II 960T, never had problems with it or even overclocked it. Before I couldn't boot anymore, temps of cpu and gpu were normal under load, ~53°c and ~61°c respectively.

your GPU could be receiving insufficient power

you may need to update your BIOS

first step: reset BIOS using clear_cmos jumper + HOLD POWER BUTTON WHILE YOU DO THIS...hold jumper and power button for at least 30 seconds, then try to boot

second step is to remove all non-critical components (all but one stick of RAM, USB, drives, etc)...your only goal now should be to get to BIOS

try booting without gpu inserted and seeing what error codes it gives you

then insert GPU and see if the error code has changed

Hi there

I posted the other day about ordering new parts and they came in today

The problem I'm having is that I've got everything set up like it's supposed to but for some reason my monitor isnt responding to my GPU HDMI connection

I never had this problem before and have tried different cords and even checking to see if I didn't plug something in but as far as I can tell it is working normally

>GPU is receiving power
>Machine turns on normally
>All fans are going

I've even tried plugging the cord into my new MOBOs native HDMI port but still no response from my monitor, except when I unplug it it says "No HDMI signal detected" but it also says that when I plug it in too

My mobo is a Gigabyte AM3+ AMD DDR3 1333 760G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Motherboard GA-78LMT-USB3

GPU is a MSI GTX 970 4GB

Not a question for a problem, but just for my own knowledge of what the fuck happened -

I just had a hard drive that had failed months ago come back on its own. During some Maintence on my home server my machine was power cycling before POSTing, got it back and didn't think much of it other than this particular hard drive was RAW. No data recovery options worked, I didn't expect them to.

Last night during a storm I suppose my power was interrupted as the machine was off this morning. Lo and behold, the drive was working again, at full transfer speeds no less.

What the fuck just happened and why am I so happy about it.

I want to buy a mini/compact refrigerator to place in my room (USA). I have a moderate-heavy PC with 2 graphics cards which is on most of the time. I also have a PS3 and Xbox360 which I play on occasion while also having my PC on, and then some minor things like a phone charger and a clock.

If I understand correctly, my PC would probably be drawing no more than 5~7 amps, my fridge 1 amp (says on back) with occasional spikes for the compressor (I assume), and then my other things, up to 2 amps at a time max, so 10 amps + a little more for the compressor for a short time, and if I have my info correct, a typical American house has 15A circuits.

So will plugging all these things into the same circuit be OK, or am I missing something here? I just need confirmation because I don't know anything about electricity, and what I do know I just googled.

When I hit the power button, the screen displays for a split second to 2 seconds before going black. The buttons vibrate when pressed, and the volume rocker beeps, so the phone is working otherwise. When the screen is on, it is washed out and green tinted.

If I smack the phone on my knee a few times, I can get it to work fine, but any small impact to the bottom half of the phone (front or back) causes the screen to turn off again.

I've pulled the back off (down to the motherboard) and reseated all the push-connectors, but it is all still the same.

Not logitech speakers. With most powered speakers 30~50% of the money goes to brand name and the fact that they're powered. Get a decent amp, a cheap DAC, and good speakers. This gives you the FREEDOM to use a much, much wider variety of good speakers rather than the tiny handful of decent powered ones.

A cheap and decent amp like a Lepai LP-2020A+ will be enough to power pretty much any stereo setup. Consider a different amp if you plan to add a sub.

(optional) A cheap DAC like a behringer UCA DAC is good enough. Just avoid the ultra cheap DIY stuff. Good for headphones, or if you just want a DAC. The reason I say this is good for headphones is many amps do not have 3.5mm audio jack outputs, and you'll want some way to control the volume easily. You could opt for a more costly amp that does have a jack, but might as well just get a DAC.

Now you have $150~$180 left for good bookshelf speakers that aren't over the counter best buy powered speakers.

Used is just fine, just like with headphones.

Look for these used but might go over budget
>Polk Audio RTI A1
>Audioengine P4

Within budget for sure
>Polk Audio Tsi100
>Yamaha NS-6490
>Klipsch R-15M

Low budget but good
>Polk Audio T15
>Pioneer sp-bs22
>Micca MB42X

I really just want standalone powered speakers and nothing else
>Audioengine A2+
These are actually good. Usually $250 but maybe you can find used ones for $200, and you'd have your entire budget since no amp, but less versatile if you wanna add a sub

I read around that if 3 passes get you no errors, the memory is probably not the problem, is that true?

Here's my situation: I get the PC to boot with a single stick of RAM in slot 1, but putting the other one of the kit in slot 2 gives me problems and I can't boot. The memory is not even a year old, it's a kit of 2x4GB g skill sniper DDR3, I just checked I bought it in august of 2015, so I'm not sure if it's the memory. Slot 4 also works with a single stick, but only my old memory fits because of the hyper 212 cooler. RAM in slots 3 & 4 also will not start.

Is it possible that the RAM slots died or something?

I recently inherited a T3500 workstation with only 3x2 gb of ram and Xeon X3450.

Its convenient because i need to run like 3 VMs, and have like at least 6 gigs worth of other processes running at any given time.

Should I go ahead and buy more ECC ram specifically for this system (buying another 3x4GB), 50 USD

OR

Just buy 3x8 gigs of non ECC ram (so i can reuse it in the future) 100 USD.

I also need a ssd at under 50 USD and I assume all SSDs are plenty fast (just wanna boot and load VMs fast). What's the best GB/dollar option?

Alright. So I just bought an Intel S2600CP motherboard with two Xeon E5-2670 processors.

I got it installed in my 4u case, and connected all the power cables. But it won't boot. All I get is a really quick "click-click" from the onboard speaker and all the fans spin for a second each time I press the power button.

I had to get a 4-pin molex to 8-pin EPS adapter because the power supply I have only has one 8-pin EPS connector. The only things connected to the power supply are the main 24-pin connector, the two EPS connectors, and one SATA connector (for the SSD).

Why isn't it booting? I cleared the BIOS with the jumper, I checked that the CPUs were in correctly, and I reseated all the power connectors. When it tries to start it only pulls 36 watts according to a kill-a-watt, so I don't really think the power supply is under-powered.

What am I missing?

More trouble than anything. Ive always loved the idea of massive power in a tiny factor.

This case here
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K8CIZYS
Seems to fit my bill. Fits GPUs up to 13 inches and cpu coolers up to 83mm. Which isn't much but it supports water cooling and that works because that's what I'm planning on doing.

I think the small and simple approach to big power is very attractive and stylish.

But I'm not totally opposed to a matx or mid tower.

Heat and airflow are concerns but my room is always freezing for no reason. I also don't see anything but as rock itx mobos so that's also disappointing.

Expensive? No, It's an alternative to the shitty AA that most games have, and it works really well.
I have an R9 380X, which is overkill in a lot of 1080p games, so I use VSR in games where AA was either really terribly implemented, or just looks bad.
>>
>>55136548
Its expensive because its basically brute force anti-aliasing, you're rendering the whole scene at a higher resolution then downscaling it. Anti-aliasing does not do this normally because you can get most of the same effect without using nearly as much processing power.
>>
>>55136569
All AA except FXAA is brute-force, and that looks shit.
There are a few techniques that look good and save a lot of performance, but are only found in a few games. For the rest, if you can push VSR instead of using built-in AA and get similar framerates, you end up with a better looking game, at the same framerate.

>>
>>55136838
With a 380, you might hit a wall because of power delivery limitations.
You might not have a wall though, and you could definitely fry it with voltage, even if the temps are good.
>>
>>55136838
If anyone is interested I'm currently at 1095 core clock and 1540 memory clock with +25 to the core voltage and +20 to my power limit using msi afterburner

Hello, I'm new to programming. I hear people say it's best to avoid global variables. Why is this? Secondly, is it okay if I use a variable I defined in another function by returning it?
for example:
def my_function():
x = 4
y = 1
return x
def my_funct():
x +4

>>> 8
>>
>>55137348
Yeah I couldn't find Custom CSS in 4chanx settings, so assumed it was the default settings I needed to change.
Unfortunately I don't have the ability to screencap video. But it will load the page, then everything will disappear and I'll just see the background colour pale blue for ~1 second, then it'll reappear. Rinse repeat.

Do you have an image showing me where Custom CSS is in 4chan x settings?

Thanks

Assuming the electronics on the enclosure are dying which isn't a biggie, I'll eventually just rip it out and use it internally when it dies fully, but for now is there a way to do this in a software level without having to physically reach over and unplug the thing each time?

What if x is named something different like this_is_an_x to avoid conflict?

Is it possible to install a keylogger in a router and catch all url's and specific keywords passing through?

I have access to this router that I want to infect. Then I want to send it to me via email (encrypted if possible, but not required), is this possible?

Is there any shortcut or I've to write an application myself?

id is probably not a string, so try without '
>>

are you going to keep track of where you are going to use this_is_an_x in 500 different files?
You'll also run into problems running on more than 2 threads if two functions access/write it at the same time.

Don't do that. It's simple as that.

Same thing. I get the same error. But you were right, it wasn't a string.

I didn't even notice, but you are trying to do an insert with a where.
you can't use where on an insert, what are you trying to do?

most logins are over https, so you'd have to do a mitm attack aswell and somehow make your own certificate be trusted by all clients before forwarding everything.

set up a transparent proxy on the router that accepts all hostnames, forwards it to the real host and logs all requests.
change the dns entries for everything to your router so all connect to your router.
this doesn't work when a client is using a fixed dns server and not using the dhcp default.

When I connect my wireless x360 controller to my PC, can I make it run steam on noticing the controller? Is there a setting in windows that can help me do this?

gitlab has issue tracking.
but it's not as advanced and a complete setup might be overkill just for that.

You need at least a quad core processor for contemporary websites to not be slow.
