Poorfag who built a new pc 2 months back after months of saving. Spent a lot, got the best in field i could for everything, except for my graphics card (still using my old 6850). Was waiting to see nvidias new offerings first.

what should i buy? 1080 or 1070? Which is more future proof? i don't mind forking out for the 1080, but as it stands i do only have a dual 1080p monitor setup so i am unsure if it is worth? I'm thinking it is, as i do plan on upgrading these monitors by the end of the year, but i'd like a second opinion
>>
>>55101954
Buy a 480x per monitor. It will be cheaper and do fine 1080p
>>
>>55101954
The 1080 is the most "future proof" as it's the fastest single graphics card you can get now. If you want to wait, you can see what AMD comes out with after the 480.

Nothing is really future proof, you just have to decide what time is best for you to spend the money.
>>
>>55101954
1080 is the fastest card on the market right now, if you want to be as future proof as possible then get it.
>>
GTX 1080 owner here with a 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor.

1080 has been great for 1440p gaming, but there are a lot of major games it does not reach the higher frame threshold. On average, I am getting 70-90 FPS for most games maxed out (Most overwatch maps, GTAV, etc).

FPS games fair a bit better, and usually run about 100-140FPS for me (Doom maxed out no issues). I also tried my 4K TV on some of my games and it is hit or miss, usually 40-60 FPS on average maxed out. Keep in mind I have mostly been testing recent stuff for the most part, so older shit will run far better.

Honestly? If you are going to stick with 1080p, get a GTX 1070. It is on par with a 980 Ti, and that card is still a goddamn beast.

Also, if there is any games you want me to test, post em and I will give you a idea how they run.

So i should just bite the bullet and put the extra cash to the 1080?

Heres my other specs, i am planning on upgrading to a 4K monitor by christmas (hopefully two), so i just don't want to pay for the 1070 if i'm not really gonna see much actual benefit of it once im ready for 4K resolutions?
>>
>>55102108
Honestly, I would hold off on getting 4K Monitors for awhile. The 1080 is OK with 4K, but not to the level you would want it at unless you plan to do a SLI build.
>>
>>55102169
Would 1440p at least be worth it in the meanwhile?

Yep! I just got a XB27HU the other day, and it works great. Right now, 1440p is probably the best resolution currently if you want anything above 60 FPS, since we are not quite there yet for 4K.

That, and 144hz free/g-sync monitors are starting to come down in price to more affordable levels then the 4K counterparts, which are still rare.

Get two 1080's for 4K.
>>

What monitor??
>>
>>55102485
While multicarding is the only option for 4K, multicarding is still stupid
>>

>Future proof
No such thing, you'll be fucked in the ass in less than a year by something newer in less than a year.

>1080
If you want the most powerful card on the market and are willing to shell out top dollar, do it
>RX480
If you want the best performance per dollar, this is the way to go, but for the love of god, don't Crossfire
>1070
If you want a card that can push 1080p - 1440p above or around 60 fps on high settings, go for it
>980Ti
If you can find one for sub 400, this is also a good option
>>
where can i even buy a 1070 or 1080? everywhere is sold out and I'm not gonna pay a shit load for them.
>>
>>55101954
Why do people insist on buying high end GPUs to use with 1080p 60hz displays?

Wait about 3 months.
Nvidia jumped the gun big time to upstage Vega by virtue of coming out first, but they don't have the manufacturing capabilities to really come out first.

AMD really seems to be more future proof with the performance gains in dx12.
http://wccftech.com/amd-r9-290x-fast-titan-dx12-enabled-3dmark-33-faster-gtx-980/

Of course this early dx12 may be good indication of AMD being able to swing back but never know but dx12 favors AMD
>>
>>55102244
You don't have a GTX 1080, they don't come in 4GB. Why would you lie on the internet?
>>
What's the rest of your build? If you have the patience, wait for the 1080 TI if you're planning on going for a 4k monitor.

You could go for the 1070 and 1440p and you'd be fine.
>>
>>55103641
...You do realize that Speccy is not 100% accurate, correct? The 980 Ti had the same issue with reporting the amount of VRAM it had.
