I'd appreciate some help with an issue I have.
I've recently purchased a SSD which I've installed w8.1 on. I've switched to AHCI and relegated my previous hard drive to a storage device.
The problem I have is that the hard drive seems to switch off when not in use for a while. When I want to access something from it, it spins up, clicks and from then on works normally until it powers down again. When I unplug my SSD, switch back to IDE and boot w7 from my hard drive, it operates normally.
What is causing this?

Windows power settings, has a option to turn off HDDs to save power

Actually that does nothing on secondary drives
>SSD
>spins up

It covers every disk, even usb ones that support external commands.

Thanks. I switched the setting to 0, this should resolve the issue.
