Who likes to mix and match the old with the new to create a weird semi retro? It's pretty great with old TV's connected to current computers

Yeah, I've done this with my Apple Monitor II and GTA V.

Also, I've used my Apple II as a terminal to my Raspberry Pi.

That's an LGR video screenshot, unless OP is really Clint

One thing I enjoy is getting the full benefit out of old technology in a way that may have not been possible at the time it was made.

I have this CRT monitor from 1995 which supports up to 2048x1536 resolution, but in the year it was made it would have been impossible or next to it to see a video running on the screen in this resolution.

But in 2016 I can do it. Looks great. In 1995 it would have been mindblowing.
>>
>>54901970
And I still use this monitor for playing Street Fighter V.
>>
>>54901970
This. I bought old flatron supporting 2k once for the sake of retro. I mostly use it as my 2nd screen when I chill out during the evenings. Twitch/youtube on LCD and retro vidya on crt.

10/10
>>
>>54901970
you guys are going to develop cancer.
>>
>>54901970
Problem is those monitors are hard to get. Most people opted for 800x600 or whatever. It was usually the design professionals that paid extra for more pixels
>>
>>54898811
Not really that hard. you just need hdmi/s-video adapter.

I had the same setup, using rpi2 and old sanyo tv in the attics

I saw some people on bst using old monitors which looked pretty good. I think the low resolution might be bad for the eyes though.

That's hawt. I don't remember seeing monitor so high in resolution back then.

C'mon, man. Clint is a bro and you know it.
>>

>He only used two adaptors
Assuming the computer is new (not every system can run 10) I'd guess it must be run through a VGA-composite converter, which is run through another Composite-RF converter to generate the signal.

That,or he's simply outputting the Composite - RF signal from a VCR.

Older AGP system have simpler ways of doing this: 4-pin or 7 pin S-Video (some carry RGB through the S-Video port, hence 3 more pins) to composite converter cable connected to a Composite - RF converter.

3. Hdmi/composite/rf. He lists the ones he used in the description, but there are cheaper ones out there.

people try and deny they hate success. the guy is pretty god tier, between his collection, his passion, and when he does shit like the black & white tv playing PC games. he's also not a complete asshole beta like some of the shitstains on here wit their fedoras on too tight that say this like >>54899179
or thinking they are superior because of their income (or their parents income, hiding that they're a rich "mommy's/daddy's money" NEET, more than a few of you out there, don't deny it, as i know some personally, and you have all the signs) Mind you, there are some good class acts on /g/ as well, and i salute you fine sirs and madams.
>>
>>54907967
VGA to Composite/SVideo adapters are about $15 on eBay - they require no software, and have built in display controls. they can output at different converted resolutions (320x240p, 640x480, 1024 x 768, etc). just make sure your cables you use are decent quality, as the ones they come with usually arent and produce noise in the image.

>>54901970
That's fucking awesome. I'm paranoid when using crt tho

Today's fun fact: If you show a child of six a CRT television, they will gawk and wonder at a TV shaped like a cube.
>>
>>54914904
That's no fun fact, just the sad truth.
>>
>>54910247
how much lag do they introduce though?
>>
>>54912841
>pvm
If you mean a Sony PVM, it's definitely not one of them because the CRT is spherically curved.
>>
>>54916720
I've got a PVM with curved glass in front of me right now.
>>
>>54916850
Trinitrons are vertically flat and only curved horizontally, like a cylinder. The one in that picture is curved in all directions, like a sphere, and thus not a Trinitron.
>>
>>54905565
I used to own the monitor in that photo (the exact monitor, I sold it to the guy) and it looks every bit as good as that photo suggests.
>>
>>54907967
What?

Hell no.

Take any old shitbox PC and toss in a random AGP Nvidia card.

The find any old CRT monitor with RGB inputs like a PVM and use a VGA>RGBHV cable to send the video signal. The whole deal put together should run you less than $100 if take your time to look around.

Alternative is to simply use a Wii and connect it via component cables to a television that supports it. You can probably pull that off for $50 or less.
>>
>>54908278
>>54910247
Don't go this way. You'll squash the video into 240p instead of sending the proper native resolution and getting that sweet 1:1 pixel ratio.

>>
>>54914904
Who gives a shit. I hate CRT screens. They serve no functional purpose that an HDTV already has, they are small as fuck, shitty resolution which is bad for the eyes and makes a tiny mosquito sound that you can hear in the back of your head. Stop looking at everything in rose tinted glasses. Soon enough people will start to ironically use LCD screens when hologram TVs or VR TVs or some future shit like that takes its place.
