Explain to me how on earth a gaming PC could be affordable like a PS4 when the graphics card costs more. This is assuming you've never had a gaming PC before so you need to buy all the other shit. Why do people say it is more affordable?
>>
>ps4 graphics are equivalent to GTX 980 cards
>>
Because you can build a PC that'll beat a console fore cheaper.

I've tried using an on par gpu on pcpartpicker. You can't with all the essentials needed to run a system, including a psu and windows licence.

>lol steamos
>>
You aren't just going to buy the ps4 and nothing else for it right?
>>
>>54874546
What like? You have a controller with it. You have to buy games for it.
>>
you'll get triple the (You)'s on /v/ with that
why post here?
>>
Games are cheaper, peripherals are cheaper, experience can be better and the games themselves can look and feel better.
In the long run it will cost about the same, 20$ for a digital download vs 60$ for a disc.
And a computer can do more than just play games, a good GPU can be used for all sorts of things, from photoshop to CAD.
>>
>>54874374
PS4 performance vga card is something like 750ti or R7 370. If you really want to to buttrape console wait for the new RX 480 with 8gb ram, for 229.

Initial gaming rig for PC is more expensive if you want to it last years and still be decent (i built my rig like 4years ago for 1k euro, 3570k 670gtx, 8gb ram, 120 ssd, 2tb hdd.)

But PC games are generally less expensive than console, for example overwatch cost 60$ on console and 40$ on PC. Also you dont need to pay like 100$ per year to play online (rolf). Also you still need a PC at home, to do other stuff. obviously you could buy a laptop, but unless your a student that need to carry laptop to lectures, PC is superior.
>>

>>
>>54874609
You can't sell on a game downloaded on a pc. The games are not $20 when released. Games go down cheap on disc after a few months.
>>
Also you're forgetting that you're not just buying "a PC that can match a console," but you're buying, you know, a PC! Store your music, your documents, your porn. Also Photoshop and other shit.

Consoles are running 900p/1080p resolution with capped 30/60 fps, on minimum settings without AA, tessellation, volumetric fog, anisotropic filtering, minimal shadow map size, minimal texture resolution, minimal level of detail. They are using graphics chips which are relatively equal to HD7850 or 750ti, or simply AMD A10 for AIO solution.

You cannot compare graphics cards like 980, which are meant to be used for ultra-high settings on 1440p or even high settings 4k.

Building a PC, which is capable of running games on 900p or 1080p with console-a-like graphical settings is cheaper than buying a console.

upcoming mainstream cards like RX 480 and 1060/1060ti for around 200$ will be able to do 1440p/60fps max setttings (and in lesser demanding games will be able to 4k/60). While Consoles are struggling to reach 1080p/30fps.

Console gaming is probably the best if you only want to use those peripherals (and none of your favourite indie games) in its price bracket. Cheaper than consoles, you get a PC that is underpowered but still runs and works. More expensive, you get a better machine that not only plays all of the games you want (and better than on console), and plays everything up to GameCube / Wii / PS2 etc.
A PC doesn't just serve one purpose, a console is decent for its price but you can enjoy something better for a bit more.

>>
>>54875124
1070/1080/490 is supposed to run games at 4k/60, and they will run then at 1080 is able to run at max settings. 1070 will be able able to run at high settings 4k/60.

Cards like the 1080 are are meant for more than 1440/60 and are aimed at enthusiasts willing to spend the extra. They may want it for smoother/better looking VR, 4K+ resolution or maybe for something like Ansel. Some people will be using these to run their games at those settings and streaming at the same time too.

>>
>>54875241
Not bad. Sometimes you can get away with a Pentium. Probably is that pc will sound loud as fuck in comparison to the ps4.
>>
>>54875241
You could probably replace the GPU/CPU with a A10-7890K if you don't mind downgrading GTA 5 to Low on 1080p.
>>

What's low like? GTA V looked pretty impressive on 360 even though it was 720p.

10 average console games cost about $600 and retards who can't comprehend long term thinking still say that consoles are cheaper. You also need a normal computer for every non-game task too.
>>>/v/
>>
>>54875480
Don't buy games new. Buy used and now you can get lots of older titles cheap. The discs are produced in their millions so there's always discs.

>>

Yeah you can definitely bring cost down a little bit more. That build is also based on the assumption you have an OS, kb/m, monitor and speakers/headphones sorted already. But should have better performance than a PS4 i.e run 1080 native
>>
>>54875512

Or instead you can use a platform which will allow you to do practically anything and also has cheap games that require less effort to acquire.

>>
>>54875757
no you stupid shit
>>
>>54874374
Note that PS4 runs games at low-medium settings and games generally cost much more.

There's also the fact that your gaming machine can perform many other tasks that the console cannot, such as programming, art/cgi design, and game play recording at full quality.

Overall, the existence of Humble Bundles, Steam sales, more free-to-play games, and easy piracy makes PC a much cheaper platform over time.

You can also upgrade your system incrementally, rather than purchase an entire new console.
>>
>>54875618
>thinking Uncharted 4 looks impressive in any way

what the fuck is wrong with you
>>
>>54874374
like you dont need a TV for the PS4?

you can already build a solid gaming PC with an athlon 845 and a 380. the RX 480 is going to widen the gap even more

AM4 APUs with DDR4 are going to be pretty great for the money as well
>>
>>54875910
I use a 1080p monitor that I share with the PC and PS4. So no need to get a tv.
>>
>>54875910
how does ddr4 at like 5ghz, compares to gddr5 on ps4? It should be nearing its performance no?

Because with a gaming PC, you don't also have to buy a PC.

>Buy average $500 PC
>Spend additional $250 to make it a decent gaming PC
Total Cost: $750

OR

>Buy average $500 PC
>Spend additional $400 on a PS4 for gaming
Total Cost: $900

Sure you could go all out and buy the absolute most expensive gaming GPU that does way more than a console would and you'll spend way more than the price of a console for it, but for an equivalent experience a PC is a much better deal. Medium settings at 1080p is pretty cheap.
>>
>>54874569

You don't need the best GPU to play games. sub 200 cards do just fine if you're not trying to run at 120fps on 4 monitors.

GNU/Linux on the PC. PS4 for gaming if you must!

The PC is for strategy games, available on GNU/Linux! Consoles are for AAA titles. Using your PC for AAA titles destroys your freedom! You could say that PS4 is against your freedom, it is true but you aren't going to use your console for anything other than games! Games don't respect your freedom by design, anyways. So, use GNU/Linux on your PC t oprotect your freedom. Don't use your PC for AAA windows gaming!

Ok kids, a PS4 is 300€, with 1TB of HDD, new.
It's 400€ with 3 recent games. The gamepad and some hdmi cable are included
That are the prices we usually have when stores make some sale.
Count 20€ for a AAA game, new, a few months old.

Im not cherrypicking, we can have cheaper games, and get the PS4 for a lower price.
The XB1 was sold at 170€ a few months ago, and i got my ps4 for 200€, fyi.

Show me a pretty config for that price, 1TB of HDD, keyboard and mouse included that runs recent games, like far cry 4 or doom, assassin's creed unity, batman AK.

The way I always understood this was that you buy a graphics card to play games, the equivalent of buying a console. People use computers for a variety of shit, to make it fair you should add up the cost of a television to a console, and it's online subscription cost

Now you have a system for the same price that will beat a PS4. You'll get a good frame rate well over 30 fps with all settings to maximum in most games.
