I have a friend who is hell bent on buying this (http://ironsidecomputers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=309) because it's sponsored by some youtuber.
I put together this(http://pcpartpicker.com/p/c9FcwP) as a better build for a lower price. How did I do?
Also, is the power supply enough? 400 watt PSU and 318 watt approximate consumption?
is there anything you would reccomend I change?
also, is the PSU
>>
I used to be like this until people will try to nail you for even the smallest amount of advice. Let alone the whole PC. I once got blamed for a motherboard failure 5 years after a video card upgrade I recommended. Dude wasn't even in the same state anymore.
>>
>>51500364
that's just called having a shit-tier friend
this guy doesn't even know how many CPU cores the first link has.
>>
That Minion case is an absolute abomination
>>
>>51500407
I know
how's mine look?
>>
>>51500462
Idk why would you get 16 gigs of ram when it could be spent on the gpu or cpu
Also an 80mm case fan?
>>
>>51500239
You're a scum sucking retard
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QBKCTW

There are only two processors worth a damn anymore:
860K
E3-1230

Everything else is goyimtier.

Do what you like with the last $80, bigger HDD, more ram, w/e. Don't get a soundcard, don't get a network adapter, don't buy thermal paste
>>
>>51500462
Yours is as bad if not worse than his.

Why the overpriced 8 core cpu when you can get an i3 4170 that will run games as well, if not better?

Why the retarded cpu cooler?

Why the ridiculously overpriced motherboard?

Why 16 and not 8 gigs of ram?

Why the shitty, stupidly small SSD and a 3tb hard drive?

Why such an expensive case fan?

750ti isn't that bad, but he could get a far superior card, maybe a 950, at this price point.

Your build is positively disgusting is what I'm trying to say here. You should seriously rethink it.
>>
>>51500489
the case fan is mostly for exhaust purposes
>also, he wants to play high-load FPS games on it
isn't the CPU good enough?
yeah, the GPU isn't the greatest
go ahead and mess around with it and drop a permalink to your fixes
>>
>>51500239
Your friend shouldn't have missed out on this deal

http://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/169277
>>
>>51500533
I'm appreciating the negative feedback.
the SSD at least I can explain
the SSD is the primary drive, for faster boot times and the HDD is a storage drive, as he plans to record raw video and render it to a youtube-able format
>>
>>51500575
I ain't clickin that shit
>>
>>51500586
>youtuber
Shadowplay is overhyped bruv
>>
>>51500586
That makes sense, but I would go with at least a 128gb SSD even for just a boot drive. Also the brand you picked out isn't the most reputable.

And for the HDD get a Western Digital or Seagate.
>>
>>51500587
You don't know what slickdeals is?
>>
>is there anything you would reccomend I change?
Everything.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/j3xDYJ

FX-8350 is irrelevant except for well-multithreaded workloads, which games are not. You need at least four threads nowadays, but per-thread performance is what matters. Get an i5.
You don't need 16 GB RAM. If you did, I wouldn't spend $80 on it. I'd spend $60 on it. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f31600c10d16gao Always buy the cheapest RAM. Brand, timings, etc. don't matter. Speed matters a little bit.
64 GB SSD + 3 TB HDD? Nah. 120GB SSD + 1 TB HDD.
That PSU a shit.
And a dedicated network card? Wtf? That's what the motherboard is for mate.
>2015
>dedicated wired network adapter
And you didn't need that extra fan, either.

>here we see the gentooman in its natural habitat
>it has convinced itself that an Athlon X4 860k does not bottleneck an R9 390
>it spends $10 extra to get DDR3-2400 with typically no advantage over DDR3-1600
>then again, with its poor CPU choice, it will take whatever it can get
>it includes 250GB Samsung EVO SSDs in midrange builds
>it spends $50 on toshiba hard drives, probably because it actually believed the Backblaze thing that claimed Seagates unreliable
>it spends $50 on a case that would be a good deal at $25
>>
>>51500708
I agree with you, except about the SSD.

I guess it depends how you define mid-range. I got a 250gb Evo in my 4460+280x build a few months ago, and I wouldn't have it any other way. You can always buy more mechanical storage later, it's easy to install and relatively cheap.
>>
>>51500708
Go check the numbers when you pair the AMD APU cores with high frequency RAM. Buggers are designed to use them.

Also 1866mhz is the sweet spot for FX series.
>>
>>51500708
>all of this bitching
>maybe MAYBE you save $70
>except you don't because you're full of shit

>>
>>51500780
You are absolutely correct. One issue though.
We're not talking about APUs.
>>
>>51500804
>implying we're only talking about the 850 EVO
>implying a normie 120 GB SSD isn't $40
>implying it's worth it to waste $5 for no fucking reason
>implying i don't also think the 8350 is shit for gaming
>>>>>>>fractal cases are good
>>
>>51500809
860K is a crippled APU, ie the GPU is welded off

The memory controller is still designed for 2400mhz might as well use the proper shit for $7 more
>>
>>51500783
>"maybe MAYBE you save $70"
>that's a fucking shit ton wasted for nothing
>except i'm not full of shit
>justifying wasting $70 by calling it "like an hour's worth of work"
>>
>>51500833
>welded off
lol k
>The memory controller is still designed for 2400mhz might as well use the proper shit for $7 more
APUs don't benefit from higher frequencies simply because "the memory controller is designed for it." They benefit from it because the GPU in the APU uses system RAM as VRAM. This is not a thing with the 860K.
>>
>>51500831
>using drives that aren't Samsung
well memed

And mang, after buying 16 Seagate 1tb 7200.12's, and having 5 of them fail within 3 months and another 2 fail in 6 months, I ain't gonna recommend them to anyone.

Until that actually happens to me, I'll recommend them to everyone.

Stop with the AMD CPUs. Jesus.
And with the 16 GB RAM.
>>
>>51501097
AMD is a better value. find me a hexa-core intel for that price.
>>
>>51500783

Post a paystub you lying faggot.
>>
>>51501140
Find me a game that uses six fucking cores.

Jesus christ dude. Are you going to listen to anyone's advice? The i5 4460 will shit all over that amd cpu. Look up benchmarks.
>>
>>51501140

AMD doesn't sell hexa core cpus in their mainstream offerings. Currently they only sell dual, triple and quad core CPUs.

better?
captcha: somewhat
>>
>>51501467

no, get a beefier psu (500 or 600w) and get a b-stock 970 instead of this overpriced as fuck 960

>>
>>51501482

better?
>>
>>51501551
a lot better, but there's still some problems.

Get a cheaper cpu, 4460 is a great buy. Ditch the aftermarket cooler, you don't need it with a locked chip. Overclocking isn't as huge a deal as you think, you're better off skipping it with a limited budget.

Psu is still meh, honestly with this build just go with a CX 600, it's also meh but a hell of a lot better than what you have currently, cheap, and it'll run your parts just fine.

Don't get a 960 unless there's a specific reason you need to go Nvidia, get a 380/380x/290, whatever your budget allows. B-stock 970 is also a good option.

For the love of god man, the storage. 32gb? Really? Get at least 120 for a boot drive.
>>
>>51501599
I'm planning on the boot drive to be ONLY boot.
as in, windows system-critical files. (27 GB on this system (win7 ultimate x64))
all user files and settings, along with \Program Files[ (x86)]\ will be on the HDD.
>>
>>51501694
nigga. listen. to. my. advice. get the 120gb.
>>
>>51501740
I hear your advice, but I don't understand your reasoning. why wouldn't a 64GB be enough?
>>
>>51501768
look
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Q3b4zy

>2016
>dvd drive
yeah you dont really need one
if you do, surely someone has a spare they can just give you. or a dvd reader at the minimum.

chose a better motherboard, with a better chipset for obvious reasons. also other mobo had only 2 dimm slots, this one has 4, so if you want to add more memory down the road, you can. still matx

128gb ssd, becuase it's the minimum. unless you're on a real tight budget. they perform better with less shit on them as well.

Corsair PSU with good rep , semi modular, 600w to put you in the middle range of consumption/efficiency. same price as your 500w cougar one anyways.

left the cpu as is becuase the price difference vs performance of i5 4690k vs i5 4460 is not even worth the savings. just stick with the i5 4690k

left the gpu alone, you can decide which way you want to go with that.
>>
>>51500910
my 4tb seagate is still alive for 2 years already

Worth the money
>>
>>51502290
>2 years
That's not an impressive time for a hard drive.
