I am using it, no it's not really faster.
But it's much easier to program with coming from QWERTZ. No idea about QWERTY.

I used dvorak for a long time, but I began to hate it when I started using vim heavily.

I haven't used a non qwerty and am interested in different layouts; has anyone used a colemak before? I read some article that was comparing the speed of layouts and for typing in english there was some other layout that was much faster than everything else I can't remember what it was called....

have fun manually editing the hotkeys of every single application, if you're lucky and it's allowed in-app.

Tried it, didn't like it. I don't think the keyboard layout is really important for programming, unless you write a million lines of code per minute like in the TV shows.

though I could solve it with a simple autohotkey script which remap ctrl-c/v/x for me.
Didn't have any problem with other hotkeys yet.

well I tried to switch but the fuckery for setting up Eclipse was just too much, besides on whatever linux distro I was using at the time(probablu 'buntu) the key remap was glitched as hell and would ignore keys randomly. Not worth the trouble really. also this >>51453204

I've tried colemak before, it was decent when I tried it but I happened to switch at a time where everyone uncharacteristically wanted to talk to me so I kept on having to switch back to qwerty to type faster than 25-30wpm

I want to learn again but I'll probably use a fully optimised layout from carpalx rather than colemak, being a uk fag not having uk colemak layouts on most systems is enough of a problem where I won't feel bad using a fully optimised layout

I already type quickly enough (130 wpm), it would take a lot of time and effort to reprogramme my muscle memory, and it would be a hassle fighting against the heavily entrenched default at every turn. Overall, not worth it.

That is dvorak. It only speeds things up by about 4%, which for most people is only three words faster than normal. It also takes about a month to ease into it coming from qwerty that it's kind of pointless

I used it for about five months. It was really nice and I preferred it to qwerty, but it wasn't worth using a non standard keyboard layout.

I do, using it for half a year because I messed up some finger tendons from playing the piano too much. Think I'll be sticking it it for the foreseeable future, it's pretty allright.

Because I am neurotypical. Why would I get used to this only to have keyboards literally everywhere else still on QWERTY?
