I'm looking for a new monitor to replace my old's, it has to be IPS, and good response time.

many shops showing the ultrawides LG, they are good?
>>
>>51437983

Colors are important, but not so much if you're just using 1 monitor. If you're using 2 different ones and they're very different colors, it can get annoying quick, but you can usually color correct them enough to be acceptable. I cant do anything smaller than 27". I got a 144 hz monitor recently and ended up taking it back because it was only 24". Colors kinda sucked too. Went ahead and bought a Benq 27" 144 hz one online instead for like a $100 cheaper. I know it won't be amazing, but reviews were okay and I'm expecting the colors to not be very good and cheaper build quality, but that's alright, it was significantly cheaper and it matched my requirements. 27" and 144hz. Hopefully it doesn't blow too hard

I have a rMPB, and a cheap Dell IPS monitor, and while the rMPB clearly has better viewing angles (essentially infinite with zero colour shift no matter how oblique) and a more even backlight (in addition to much higher DPI), the cheap Dell still looks fucking fantastic compared to any non-IPS display I've ever seen. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any IPS display, since I've never seen a 'bad' one.

For me the biggest issue is the variance between same models.

To guarantee a winning ticket in the panel lottery you need to buy store display model that you can verify before buying.
I'm not comfortable ordering monitors anymore with out inspecting it first, it's a shitty experience needing to return 3 fucking panels to get one that's even remotely comfortable with glow.

Pic is a _decent_ model these days.

Some IPS panels barely glow at all, but those are rarely seen outside of super expensive artist equipment.

Oddly enough, some cheap Dell IPS monitor had a panel like that a while ago. I suspect the feature doesn't really cost anything but the monitor makers are too busy finding cheap Chinese trash to piece together to pay attention to details like that.

it's all about making sense of the price. they're the best enthusiast high end gaming monitors that have a balance between low response times and professional grade colors. unlike current 1440p/144hz/gsync monitors the PG279Q and the XB271HU will both have full 100% sRGB color reproduction instead of only 80%. the only difference between the two is the brands and acer might release thei XB271HU for less money than the PG270Q.
>>
Big question here, does graphics cards and cpu affects the montior image quality?
>>
>>51442790
No. With analog connections like VGA the graphics card's output signal quality _did_ affect the image on the monitor, but this doesn't happen with digital stuff like DVI(-D), HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.
>>
>>51442636
>>51442383
oh it's the freesync version. well i've read you can only use adaptive sync within the 45-95hz range on that monitor. which if i'm not mistaken isn't a bad thing since adaptive sync and gsync mostly shine at lower refresh rates. an okay buy but i would wait for a newer freesync monitor since adaptive sync will be tied down to that refresh rate range with the MG279Q.

Although with how retarded frys is, I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they were only driving with 1080p or less. I didn't have my loupe on my to verify. Right next to it was a $5000 21:9 setup being driven with a stretched out 1280x720 signal.

Off topic:

If I use an HDMI or DVI splitter to run 2 clone monitors; it won't put any more load on my GPU than a single monitor. Correct?
>>
>>51445428
yes
connecting both of them directly won't produce additional load either (if you mirror them)
>>
>>51445428
No, it's just splitting a signal rather than producing 2 signals. What do you want to clone 2 monitors for apart from projecting though?

>>51445182
3ms would be 1 frame of delay at 333 Hz, and less than half a frame at 144 Hz.

>>51445123
Drive it at less for gaming if your GPU can't handle it. Use that extra resolution for desktop space.

>>51442790
What do you mean by image quality? A craptastic GPU and CPU will require you to play games at 800x600 at low settings. If you mean noisy image or poor color quality, no, at least with anything digital that's entirely on the monitor itself. VGA is another story, but who's using VGA today if they care about image quality?

Just don't put it toward a window. No matter what sort of finish it has, that will ruin image quality. Of course if you MUST put it toward a window, matte is the way to go.

This is much more important on a laptop that's going to be moved around than on a desktop monitor that's likely going to spend its whole life in the same spot.

why the hell do people like this? I sold my glossy monitor and bought a matte one because the reflections were annoying as shit.
>>
>>51446986
The picture is far superior to the blurred and dulled colors of actually applying a coating to diffuse light. It works both ways, you may stop some glare but you're preventing the rest of the light coming through too.
>>
>>51446986
I was on the matte bandwagon before I got that monitor. In fact, it was my first glossy monitor ever after owning only matte due to constant recommendations for matte monitors all over the internet. I'll never go back to matte after this. The whites are crystal clear and everything is sharper without having that coating. As long as the LCD is bonded closely to the glass, the reflections aren't that bad.
>>
>>51447030
>>51447078
I could see if you use it in a basement with no windows and no lights on, but matte is just so much better with normal lighting.

Plus I don't have to see my ugly mug when the screen goes black.
>>
>>51446817
Very slightly if at all. There is definitely a very slight blur but pixel size will still be the resolution limiter. As for color, I think this claim is mostly caused by so many matte panels being shitty color ones produced for business use where nobody cares about color fidelity.

I got a 14" matte IPS 1080p panel for my laptop and it's got great color. The effect of the coating is minuscule if there's any effect.

>>
>>51437983
Perfect Monitor

34" 21:9 2160p 144 Hz IPS with 5ms response time.

Everything else is compromise.

So you can get 144Hz on 1080p Maybe 1440P if you're lucky. But that up the price by a huge ammount and it's probably TN.

You can get 21:9 and it's gonna be IPS but it's probaby not going to go over 75Hz if it's over 1080p

You can get 4K 16:9 IPS but it's response time is gonna suck.

So technically it's 4K, 21:9 or 144Hz

All of it combined would be a good monitor.
>>
>>51447110
Or purchase good quality blinds/shades. Works perfect for me. It doesn't have to be black in the room just no light hitting the screen.

what's the joke here
>>
>>51450561
So you think I should get something else? It's seems to be significantly better than the cheapest 144Hz gimmick blurry monitors and "literally 1.5-2x the price for minor improvements" gaming monitors.
>>
>>51450771

I just picked up two of these. Seems like the best sub $200 monitor deal at the moment
>>
>>51450771
should i wait for black friday or NAH
>>
So what's a good ISP with LCD close to the glass and 1440p or higher resolution and 144hz?

same here dude i'm waiting on mine in the mail but i just bought one because i have two awesome 4:3 monitors already to put on either side.
honestly,
i would not wait. you can always return shit if there's a better deal, or make them price match it retroactively. Most places have price protection for at least a week if not a month

there is one monitor that i know of that goes 30-144 on freesync, but i cant remember who made it... it was reviewed recently on tomshardware so look there.

>>51446817
>>51447138

ok, i have a matte screen, getting out my magnifying glass and looking at the pixels tells me there is very little if any blur even magnified, however there is some amount there just by the nature of the coating, and because we cant all have black out curtains behind us, or have only eastern facing windows, if you dont have any glare issues, glossy is better, if you do... matte can help allot.

>>51437983
ok, the most important thing above all else is contrast ratio, the higher that is static the better and there is one monitor that gets over 3000:1

dynamic is a number you dont pay attention to.

now, anything 1000:1 is just fine, but more is better

SECOND is input lag, fuck green to green what is the input lag?

after that, you look at how fast/slow the gTg is.

----------------------

now, properly calibrated tn panels are capable of looking as good as low end ips displays, through ips is more desirable, unless you absolutely need the viewing angles, you can compromise here. personally, i lean back in my chair and my shit monitor darkens enough that some games are no longer playable if its night time in the game, this is why im considering a new ips, but i dont want a smaller screen than what i have which is 1920x1200 and the next level higher, 2560x1440 is expensive for what it would be to me, a luxury item.

The first rule of computers is that the gaming option is the worst one.

Did you notice how gaming headsets are always worse than ones without a microphone? How the gaming OS is much worse compared to the go-to professional systems - Mac OS and Linux? How clickety-clackety le cherrity switchity gaymen keyboards are always bad?

Same goes for monitors. Also, no one is doing any gaming on monitors, Jesus, what are you doing?
>>
>tfw you will never have a monitor with no backlight bleed, no dead or stuck pixels, perfect screen uniformity, a high contrast ratio, no IPS glow, no VA colour shift, no ghosting, a low response time and a high refresh rate

Why are monitors so shit?

Can anyone recommend a 22" monitor, at least 1080p that would be ideal for a three monitor setup? I don't do a lot of gaming on my pc so I don't need the super duper beand new just came out yesterday $600 monitors. I'm mostly just looking for video fidelity for my animu.
>>
>>51452418

OLED suffers from burn-in. So, not perfect either.

not as much if you sit at proper distance from the screen

Hey m8s I am hoping to pick another monitor up this upcoming Black Friday but I am unsure what to upgrade to. Is 144hz or 1440p worth it when all I play atm is Dota and some games such as PoE running on a 4690k and a 970?

I currently have a DELL ST2320L which I will use as a 2nd monitor just to watch streams.

Is there a best bang for the buck monitor suitable for my needs? I'm a UKfag btw if that helps.
>>
>>51453524
I play dota2 with 144hz and its better than what i used previously 60hz.
