Breaking: Congress passes spy bill giving police unlimited access to communications.

Congress has quietly passed an Intelligence Authorization Bill that includes warrantless forfeiture of private communications to local law enforcement.

Representative Justin Amash unsuccessfully attempted a late bid to oppose the bill, which passed 325-100.

When I learned that the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2015 was being rushed to the floor for a vote with little debate and only a voice vote expected (i.e., simply declared "passed" with almost nobody in the room)I asked my legislative staff to quickly review the bill for unusual language. What they discovered is one of the most egregious sections of law I've encountered during my time as a representative: It grants the executive branch virtually unlimited access to the communications of every American.

Bump this needs to be seen. Good job op
>>
Not exactly pleasant, I'll agree, and I like to avoid being a completely paranoid nutjob. But, doesn't this just legalize what the U.S. has already been doing for sometime now? What exactly changes?
>>
>>45577911
Fuck the govies.
>>
>>45578001
This. Clarification pls.
>>
>>45577911

Can you post a link that actually has the provision in it? And no, I'm not Googling it myself.

But in reality all they did was legitimize it, the NSA already has the shit and Snowden said a year ago(?) that Fed employees used to pass the info around behind closed doors for the lulz.
>>
>>45577911
What the fuck?

Why even?

Obama better veto this POS, which is clearly a violation of the Fourth Amendment.

>still thinking your info hasn't been collected for a better half of a decade already, despite being an American citizen
Where have you been for the past 18 months? It's like you guys really are fucking retarded.
>>
>>45578001
You can't get a Jew lawyer to get a get out of jail free card. Also it allows all authoritative agency access to all communications. Instead it would will go though the secret court. Basically no ree tape. But now it bypasses all of that and allows a bigger influx of a person information to be accessed. No need for suspicion, they now have access whenever they want. Basically expect new cyber police
>>
>>45578045
Lol but now it'll be on a much larger scale. And they can pass it to the new cyber police. The consequences will never be the same.
>>
Drudge has picked it up

>shits gettn' real now
>>
>>45578172

Okay but the data, in the eyes of the court of law, would still fall under 4th amendment protection forcing the police to be faggots and do what they can to "find" the evidence to make it lawful evidence?

This is still old news considering the NSA contradicted Holder in 2013 and said that NSA had long been cooperating and sharing data with the DoJ and LEAs to assist in investigations and prosecutions. All they've done then is expand it to Bum Fuck PD unless I'm missing something.
>>
>>45577911
Absolutely disgusting. Is this some attempt to cultivate an uprising of home grown revolutionaries? I mean, people are only going to accept so much before things turn really bad. Seems almost as though these clowns are trying to start shit in their own country.
>>
>>45578272
>seems like

If course they are. Then Obama can declare Marshall law.

>tfw no Hugo Weaving to come save us
>>
Stop being alarmist, there's no way this would survive legal challenge.

But still, encrypt everything, NEVER use the cloud, do not post shit on social media, don't send anything important through email, keep your sensitive data on a ramdisk, back it up periodically to a pen drive hidden well enough not to be found in a search, preferably not even on your property. Common sense stuff really.
>>
>>45578508
Seems like an awful lot of work to project your right to privacy. How about the government just fucks off?
>>
>>45578560
This. I feel like I'm in a bad dream right now. After all this country has done to promote freedom in the rest of the world, it seems bi-polar to pull this shit on it's own citizens!
>>
>>45578508
Whole lotta hoops to jump through when they shouldn't be doing this shit in the first place.
Though it's not like I haven't been doing this already and I'm third world.
>>

>>45578031

It was just an executive order, now it's being written into law. Rushed in order for opposition now to be able to organize fast enough. Amish was the one who almost stopped the funding of the NSA not too long ago (5 votes off total needed). I wonder the chances it'll be vetoed.
>>
>>45578707
Eh, it's not that much work really. Ramdisk is pretty much no-maintenance. The only thing you have to worry about is digging up the usb stick in the backyard (use a plastic container, metal detectors will give you away), backing up your data before you turn the computer off (come on, who actually turns off their computer regularly?), and setting up the ramdisk again when you turn it on.

The rest is just NOT doing things, which takes no effort at all. If people care so much about your business they can come see you in person or contact you by some other means like VOIP, IRC, etc. For cloud storage, just throw together an encrypted FTP; you can access that shit from any web browser if you do it right, but most mobile devices have FTP clients anyway these days.

The only thing I ever use e-mail for is purchases, account verification, and communication with government agencies (taxes, medicaid, etc.) who would just give up any data immediately anyway. So the worst thing that could happen is they find out what websites I hold accounts at. If you treat email the same way you treat actual mail, you'll realize how stupid most people are for sending a lot of the things they do using email. Would you send porn of yourself through USPS? Would you put the key to your front door in an envelope with your address and a note saying "FRONT DOOR KEY" and send it out to someone? People are this dumb when it comes to the internet.

All the while /pol/ is being spammed into oblivion and now IDs have been taken off along with dubs being turned back on, on /b/, so they are distracted from bringing any attention to it. Media too busy talking about Brennan going on the defensive with his 30 minute speech defending torture because muh 9/11. It can still be vetoed, but who knows.
>>
Congress passes a lot of stupid shit. Calm your tits, op.
>>
Could the Supreme Court chuck it out?
>>
they already did this, they're just making it official now

>>
>>45579358
Yes, and they will.
>>
>>45579225
If anything, the fact that they do pass a lot of stupid shit is good enough reason to be outraged.
>>
>>45579358
>>45579888
The Supreme Court can't just chuck it out. Somebody would have to legally challenge this somehow first and then it would need to work its way up all the way from the local courts up through the federal courts.

That's all good advice and such, but do you realize it's going 100% against what the Internet has become? You can't even argue with other people about this because they will dismiss your arguments on grounds of bandwagoning.

Their algorithms detect certain things but there are so many false positives. Whenever there's a nude vid/pic that's hot his officemates have a laugh.

>opening your mouth about Gov't surveillance

In April of 2013 you would have been offered anti-psychotics and diagnosed schizophrenic for bitching about domestic spying just by putting the pieces together using your forward brain.

Faster forward two months and people literally shrugged about it assuming they give THAT much of a shit to begin with. People literally don't give a fuck that they and their families (Past, present and future) are having ALL of their digital lives stored by the Gov't in the event it MAY become useful. This includes nude pictures of 13 year old girls their laptop webcams took at the behest of some NSA agent or by an automated request VIA backdoor.
