the best way to maintain muscle in a deficit is to maintain training volume even if it means taking a few pounds off the bar
a lot of people will suggest reducing volume (there's some old shitty study that shows adaptations can be maintained with 1/3 of the volume it took to get them - this is a very flawed study and it does not work that way especially for diets longer than a couple weeks), this is a terrible idea ime
