outer will help with stability and turning while running.
Inner will improve leg strength for things like deadlifts and squats.
Neither are necessary.

My knee tracks wrong, meaning I haven't been able to squat without knee pain. I'm starting to train abductors and adductors because I've heard it helps. Can anyone testify?
