Is getting that "thick" look all about genetics or is it in the traps? I'm the same height as him and weight as him but I don't look as thick

a good part of it is genetics, yes, having the muscle concentration in key parts help.
a way to get a more thick appearance is to train traps, neck and forearm. if have you these 3 groups big, you will look big in a tshirt
