I am 320 pounds and want to stop eating take out every night and start eating healthy meals. What is the best way to do this without getting a week in and falling back into old habits because of cravings? If I just straight up stop eating shit and just eat lean meats and vegetables I will 99.9% say fuck this shit after a few days and go to KFC.
>>
>>42774829
At 320lbs you could probably eat Chinese and still lose weight.
Just eat less of it. Try something with less rice, noodles, and sauces. You could eat a 2000 calorie (maintenance for normal people) diet and lose weight. If you're worried about losing muscle, eat more protein and fewer carbs or get protein powder.
Also, if you start fasting, you're appetite will go away and the cravings will be gone.
>>
>>42774829
I don't know why I thought you were eating chinese takeout, but anyway, you could still eat KFC and lose weight at 320lbs. Eat less of it.

>>
Taught students returning from summer vacation today.

One student mentioned I looked thinner, and when the others actually looked at me they were surprised to find he was right. Feels good man.
>>
>>42774829
As someone who was 310 and is currently 201, start with very small changes. Make sure you are counting your calories every day, no more mindless eating. But you can still eat plenty of food that you like.

At the beginning of my diet, I was still eating pasta and drinking soda regularly, and seeing good success. It's because I was counting my calories every day. I still eat pizza weekly and drink soda a few times a week as well. You will make more healthy choices over time (and learn about healthy meals that actually taste good), you don't need to become a health freak overnight. You can do this man, good luck.
>>
>>42774829
This isn't the healthiest advice but here goes: at 328 lbs, I basically continued eating like shit but way less of it. There were many days I'd make myself a bigass burger and have it with a can of soda and that'd be 1200 calories right there - and then the entire rest of the day I ate maybe 200 more calories, from yogurt or fruit or something.

I lost 25 pounds that first month, then the addiction to seeing the scale numbers go down kicked in and I started getting my act together. I think Lyle McDonald's PSMF follows the same principle: crash-diet the first few weeks because you have so goddamn much to lose and you have to get into the habit of counting obsessively and never snacking, then shift into the healthier stuff.

Being over 300 lbs at (I assume) 5'8-6'2 is no fucking joke, even in your twenties that's heart disease territory and I would be shocked if you didn't have sleep apnea or something related to it. You weigh literally twice what you should. You have so much to lose that a mere 500 calorie deficit would be doing yourself a disservice in my opinion. Go hard now, worry about doing it "right" later.

I've noticed with IF that the hunger pains come around a time when I am used to eating. I switch up the eating time to throw my body off of producing the nasty hunger feeling.

Eating after 17 or 18h fast will not make any real difference in terms of weight loss or insulin sensitivity especially if this is going to be your only meal for the day.

Im doing a low carb diet and it's not working. Over the last two weeks I've gained a pound, though the first week I lost 7

I've done low carb before with good results, losing about 1-2 pounds a week, I went from 300 to 275, and if anything I feel like im doing better on it this time than last time.

I guess im gonna have to get real and start counting calories.

>>
>>42776498
That's a little tougher. I guess it depends on how physically demanding we're talking here. You shouldn't have any problems with IF; possibly even ADF. Maybe don't go for a regular-ass water fast though. Although you could just say fuck it and try anyway so long as the minor weakness and fatigue of the fast doesn't impact your ability to do your job. Again, hard to say without more details about what your job actually is.

>>42776600
there is too much fluctuation in weight for daily weighing to be an effective progress tracker . at most should be once a week. best comparison is taking progress pictures a week or two apart, or doing waist measurements
>>
>>42776675
Could you eat early lunch? Like straight after getting off work, unless of course you work until late.
Otherwise, maybe just don't fast. You can still lose weight easily by normal calorie counting.
>>
>>42775897

It's got no added sugar in it- it's essentially Greek yoghurt, cream cheese and protein powder. And considering I use the 3% fat and 0% fat yoghurt it's not got a huge amount of fat either.
>>
>>42776675
Yeah, you probably don't wanna go for a water fast if you're doing a lot of heavy lifting and potentially putting the safety of yourself and others at risk. However, IF with a 16:8 split should be entirely fine though. See how 16:8 goes for you; if it goes well you could always bump it up to 18:6, and so on.

I thought this was a fucking meme till about 3 days ago when my experiment with keto hit the 11 day mark. Suddenly, not hungry, and when I am, it passed quickly and feels manageable as hell with water. I'm struggling to eat 1500 calories a day.

Wtf is this magic? I've done a balanced diet for the last year or so and lost 80+lbs and it has never felt this easy. Feels like cheating somehow.

Less than 1,000 a day? Are you a guy? If so, then no, that's not okay.
If you're gonna eat, eat right. Hit your TDEE or a few hundo below it.
You're actually better off just not eating and maintaining your fasted state than breaking your fast for a paltry amount of calories for the day.

I'm a 6'0'' 205 lbs male. I was 230 and went down to 215 after 3 months of eating 1900~kcal per day but that was too fucking slow so I'm eating even less now. I'm actually eating at near 1200 most days, just some days I eat nothing or barely anything. So, just to reiterate on >>42776710 now I'm back home, here's the macros. 3g of fat, 5g of sugar (mostly due to the fact I'm using low fat cream cheese + low fat yoghurt) and 14g of protein per serving.

Considering my other go to breakfast is porridge which has 13.2g of sugar, 8.2g of fat and 14.3g of protein per 40g serving with semi-skimmed milk then quite frankly I don't think the cheesecake is a terrible choice at all. Plus it's much easier when I need something quick and on the go.

Bread is basically empty calories, man. Even whole or multi grain isn't worth the calories for the nutrition they give.

You can work it in to your calories if you want, but it's better to keep it as a cheat meal thing.

You didn't tell us your height, but even then we don't know how your fat is distributed.

Lose the weight slowly (as in not too quickly) and keep lifting. You'll get what you get. It probably won't be that bad.

But remember, "loose skin" is often skin with excess fat clinging to it. To really see what skin is actually loose and not just fatty you have to get to a low body fat %

Bread is starch of medium caloric density and as such it is a good choice on weight loss, particularly as a snack. Boiled starches will be preferable in most cases due to greater volume, but there's nothing wrong with bread, depending on preferences. Bread is typically high in sodium and that's one reason somebody may want to limit bread.

In this study, overweight men successfully lost weight eating 12 slices of plain bread per day with their main meals. No externally imposed calorie intake, they were required to eat 4 slices per meal and then whatever else they wanted of the meal.
http://ajcn.nutrition.org.sci-hub.bz/content/32/8/1703.full.pdf

>everyone is telling me to stop eating bread if I'm aiming for weight loss
Everyone also believes that carbs "make you fat". Everyone also does not recognize the possibility of eating plain bread rather than bread with butter and cheese added. Plain bread is not generally consumed but plain bread is a weight loss food.

It's not relevant because for someone who only needs to lose 60 lbs their bmr is not going to lower as much compared to someone who needed to lose 200+ lbs at a HUGE deficit over a longer period of time. Yes, water fasts probably have a lot of health benefits including increased metabolism. Will it make a huge difference? No.

bread itself is okay, tons of fiber and such

but once you cut out bread you automtically cut out a lot of other shit you dont need. Once bread is gone, butter is gone, so is whatever cheese/meats you put on top of it, and maybe the mayo you sometimes use for it

cutting bread for me had an absolute cascading effect of removing a lot of calories in my life, i literally dont buy butter anymore

but this is all CICO, if you count your bread into your equation and control you can absolutely lose weight eating bread

I did research on this and it seems like that in the long run, Creatine is great when cutting. You'll gain a bit of water weight, but its to help aid your muscles in recovery and growth, and as long as you are cutting and working out a lot (aiding in burning calories), you'll get gains while losing fat. If you're the type to religiously track your weight on the scale, you'll notice your weight not dropping as fast as it did before, or not drop at all, but that's because you will be gaining muscle a lot faster but still slimming down

if any knowledgeable anons find any fault in this reasoning, please say so, so we can all benefit
>>

>you'll notice your weight not dropping as fast as it did before, or not drop at all, but that's because you will be gaining muscle a lot faster but still slimming down
That's what I'm experiencing. I do feel slimmer but the physical weight is staying constant. As long as I'm losing fat and gaining muscle then I'm happy. I'll keep at it. Thanks man.
>>
>>42777650
But I'll need to start lifting weights right? I've been focusing on cardio for weight loss, with like 2 days a week of lifting. Should I increase my lifting and reduce cardio for this to work out or will creatine work for cardio too?

Just an uneducated guess but creatine builds muscle so whatever you're doing for cardio should affect the used muscles. if you're running a lot you should be getting some muscle in your legs. Lean muscle but muscle all the same. If you were trying to get big you should be increasing your calorie intake to build more bulk muscle but while losing weight you're really maintaining the same amount of muscle as much as possible so I wouldn't increase your weights like you were bulking. Just keep lifting to maintain.

Try to find whole grain rye bread from coarsely ground flour. Just being whole grain isn't everything, mechanical processing also affects the glycemic index.
Skip the butter, skip the mayo, put loads of veggies on it. Tomato, cucumber, bell pepper and lettuce go with pretty much everything.
This way instead of 3 barely filling sandwiches you can have 2 mountains of vitamins and fiber with more volume and without most of the calories.

Genuinely what do you expect?

what is this black magic? something to do with insulin/GI?
>>
>>42780686
However much you need to fit your calorie goals considering what you have already eaten.

What's the point of asking this after you have already cooked, though?

Why do you feel the need to post with an avatar on a message board that is anonymous, identifying yourself and linking all your posts together?
>>
>>42780893
>something to do with insulin/GI?
Yep. High GI foods stimulate more insulin release. Insulin suppresses leptin signalling. So you feel hungry.
>>
>>42780893
Long-term calorie balance / energy status. In case 1, your energy status was relatively high, in the second case it was low for one reason or another.

There are also semi-psychological factors such as sensory-specific satiety and hedonism; a greater variety of foods provides less satiety relative to an isocaloric monotonous meal, however this would not explain your specific situation since the calorie content is much higher in one case than the other.

Insulin is not involved in the suggested fashion, that is broscience (insulin is anorexigenic, so if anything it suppresses appetite, but all calories suppress appetite to some extent, [which hedonism can counteract - palatability suppresses appetite suppression])
>>
>>42780980
>insulin is anorexigenic, so if anything it suppresses appetite
True, but what happens when the insulin spike ends a few hours later? Doesn't that lead to a "hungrier" state than with the high insulin?
Genuinely curious, you seem to know your stuff.
>>
>>42780980
You sound like a physiologyfag so help a fatty out.

I have a severe food addiction, particularly to fast food and junk. I'll go really out of my way to get it. I'll eat at mcdonalds twice a day if I can.

I'm sick of being a slightly more socially acceptable junkie. I want to get off this shit. Is cold turkey the best way?

Man, something happened today or is it just me?

I'm in the worst mood I have been in some time and I feel like absolute death, I work in tech and might lose my job, I also overate a bunch today even though I'm on a cut

I think the only thing that will help me dig myself out of depression will be to wake up early everyday and go to the gym

7 days a week, the point is i can spend 30-1hr on the treadmill just walking or hit the stairs

I'm not in a good spot right now, and really have nobody to talk too

I'm about to go eat a huge meal in a few minutes even though I'm on a cut

I have been through a lot and usually can get better within days but today it is different

I'm losing it fellas, I'm losing it

That idea is controversial and simplistic and the hypothesis is largely associated with a set of people who have built their careers on it, and continue pushing it to this day. The acceptance of this hypothesis is quite stratified according to low-carb bias - Book salesmen like Ludwig and Taubes rattle on about it, but they are fringe in terms of the actual science. Food intake and satiety regulation is a very complex phenomenon so immediately there is something suspect about people promoting some comic book mechanism to explain all of it - especially when obesity is notably absent in many societies consuming highly insulinogenic high-carb diets past or present. As for the glycemic index, there is also a problem with corruption as the same researchers suggesting it has relevance also run the clinics that test GI.
A lot has been written about the insulin thing, both the satiety aspect of it and the supposed "fat-storing properties" of it.
This can be a start perhaps:
http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com/2016/01/always-hungry-its-probably-not-your.html

>>42781074
Unfortunately I can't help you with that since these problems are very individual and there is no-size-fits-all solution. So the first thing I'd say is that, depending on subjective severity and the amount of success you have or have not had on your own, external help can be a good idea (i.e. a nutritionist, therapist or whoever would be qualified for your constellation of problems)

Personally I do think that cold turkey is the best way - but I recommend against fasting. I would recommend a reduced-palatability diet as an option, but not everybody is compatible with that. Penn Gillette did the potato-only diet for a while to reset his eating behavior and it obviously worked for him. Spudfit went further for memes and did the potato-only diet for a year. Obviously these are extreme examples and here too it may be helpful to have a doctor/nutritionist.

In order of importance

1. Diabetes in remission. Assuming my A1C holds at normal values in October, I'll get off medication and be on my way.

2. Get my body fat % to 15 or lower (whatever I need to get rid of all the excess fat)

3. Build muscle to not look like shit (already lifting 6 days a week)

4. Walk a marathon next March

5. Climb Mt. Fuji next summer

6. Maybe get a member of the opposite sex interested in me at some point. (obviously this isn't under my control, really)

That goes against most advice I've encountered. Are you a doctor, and can you explain why you think it will work? I'm not trying to call you out, I'm interested.

I've been told that skipping meals can be dangerous for blood sugar levels, not helpful. I've never had a hypoglycemic problem, but I assume I might if I attempt IF while on medication for insulin resistance as well.

Maybe more importantly, my understanding is that diabetes is never gone. It's only sleeping.

>I instantly fuck up my IF and stick to three meals, but these three consist of unhealthy shit in the morning, big burgers later and sometimes McDonald's before sleep

I was honestly terrified when I came back and had to check my weight. Seems like I put on 2 kg of weight, but it's still scary how easy it was because of my mentality of "free" food.

I was around ~143 kg, now I'm around 145 kg. Lost 5 kg thanks to IF and now I know how easy it is to be stupid, so I'll continue and try dropping below 140 before October starts.

Creatine is used for exercises that are intense (a fast sprint, weightlifting, etc), I don't remember if it does work much for steady state cardio.
But yes, creatine makes you retain water, the best way to avoid this is to take the lower dose of 5g everyday instead of "charging up" by taking 20g for 5 days and then 5g as a way of maintaining.
It doesn't make you gain fat, so if you don't mind a little water retention then there's no issues at all.

>>
>>42782195
I misspoke, I meant waiting a very long time before eating. My understanding is that to avoid hypoglycemia when you eat, and that you eat with some frequency, matters.

But are you suggesting one day of IF, or IF every day and one day of water fasting? Your original post was hard to follow.

And what symptoms did you have of pre-diabetes? I had no outward symptoms of diabetes. I never have, although hopefully now I never will since it's under control.

Lastly, pre-diabetes is curable. Supposedly diabetes isn't.

I went over calorie count today and that was bad.

But unlike every other time I've done that in my life, I kept it sane. I'll be ending the day on 1900 calories, which is 300 calories over my target, instead of going completely off the rails into the 3000+ zone like I used to.

I dunno if it's much of a victory but it oddly feels like one.

I work at pepboys in a garage in south texas.

super humid. and I had like. just been getting my size down from a 38-34 waist where I look good

and I cheated for a bit and was something like a 35 comfortably but look bloated again and my love handles were showing more

and man. let me tell you.
I was sweating so goddamn hard in that damn garage and drinking so much water. I soaked shirts so heavy I had to change em out once a day half way through my shift.

now I don't sweat as much, but I've been eating above what I need to be and not healthy.

but today marks a new day. I moved out of my family's house again. I work around the corner from the salvation army here. and around the corner from there is a 24 hour fitness center I'm signing up for.

then later find myself boxing classes.

but tomorrow I go and get some healthy snacks and some turkey and Swiss for my main meals. and spinach.

time to get back on track boys.

I was stress eating cause of the relationship with my family.
